Excellent review Michael . I think these will do very well for B&O by the sounds of it (no pun intended!) . BTW , ‘ The Sunday Show’ sounds quite catchy !! 🤔 😊👍
Of course I'll be using them on public transportation - they're half the price of the most expensive headphones I've ever worn in public 😉 I've only ever used the aluminum case for storage and currently use the same B&O leather case (previously sold out) with my H95s. I hope they've improved the zipper, it really sucks.
The DSP of this one the most intriguing to me, the Portal is “Atmos capable” which just means it’s been EQ to sound better with Atmos and you can’t use Atmos with the Portal outside of Xbox and PC because it’s basically not on the Portal, the H100 uses B&O’s own HRTF processing that’s tuned to be used with Atmos encoded sources, so basically any device that’s has Atmos decoder, phones, Atmos TV, Atmos AV receiver and of course Atmos streaming services the H100 can do virtual surround on that
Atmos doesn't just mean EQ, it also means it can decode an extra layer of meta data for the spatial information. Atmos is so badly marketed it's unreal :p
@@Mikipediaoh no, I know that, I just mean that the Atmos in the H100 is built in the headphones unlike the Portal which totally rely on the Xbox or PC to do the Atmos processing
By now quite a few of you must have the headphones. Has anyone done any actual comparison or testing of the Dolby Atmos and Spatial Audio function for movies? How is it? Especially in comparison to the AirPods Max or the Sonos ace with true play? Would be great to know how it sounds while watching movies? Unfortunately still too few actual reviews of the H100s and no real details about the Dolby atmos quality
Nice to finally see a review from you again Mike. 😊 These looks so nice, and I guess they sound great. Me wants!!! ;) Price migth be high, but are they really pricey compared to the competitors in the high end league? The Focal Stellia is 2999Usd, the Focal Utopia is 4999usd! The question I guess is more if they can compete in theire price range?
Yes but those are traditional passive audiophile headphones. These are on-the-go cans. Also much more R&D goes into the beryllium drivers, closed back dampening etc.
Haven't heard a Focal, but have heard the RAAL Sr1a (audiophile headphone), and it sounds MUCH better than what B&o has to offer. I still like B&O's headphones for my school usage but not comparable.
I haven't heard those but compared these seem ''cheap'' if that's possible lol. It's hard to say for me, but I suspect yes they can compete. Your dealer is waiting for you with a pair to try! Make that collection bigger :D
Great product, superb design. Wired it sounds great. Bluetooth wise... No ldac yet, it is disappointing at this price. Wireless there is a lack of details and clarity that would make me prefer the Edifier stax s5. But wired it is better with great slam. But if the goal is to use it wired... There are more competitors. Good try but it misses a bit more to be the alpha dog. The Noble focus Apollo looks more promising for instance.
I have them both. They have a very different signature, but I guess I am more of a planar person. Given that the Stax s5 still have decent bass. If bass matters more, the bh100 is the one. It is so much better than a Sony xm5.
@@Mikipedia done so. I really love the sound quality, and also how loud they are. Some songs even 50% is already more then enough for me. And I really like that everything can be replaced if broken. Thanks for the video! Can just empathize as you did, go and see and touch them in person. They are super luxurious, without telling it to everyone which sees you on the street wearing them, nobody will know, except the ones which do!
Hi! Thank you for the honest review, I was really surprised that the 100th year anniversary product for B&O is a headphone, because I thought the H95 has to be their last luxury headphone but well here we are. I had a H95 and if the price for H100 is like, 1200usd I might consider but 1550 is just too high. But that said I'm curious of a few things. First, is the overall shape of the H100 bigger than the H95? My head is on the bigger side and the H95 is just, almost big enough for me to wear comfortably but not quite. Second, how's the feeling of the ANC and volume wheel? In the H95 they are just dials, and they scratch against the headphone body, like dragging something on sandpaper, it's very unsatisfying. Hopefully they improved the mechanism. And lastly, are the pads the same size as the H95? If so then my ears will have a lot of trouble fitting in, but if it's bigger I might have a chance. Thank you!
I don't have one to directly compare to, but it's a similar size. They might be a few % bigger though, but it's hard to tell without having both side by side. The ANC is greatly improved and the wheel is sort of tactile with a tiny bumpless bump if you will, you can't hear it, has more of the feel of a quiet mechanical keyboard. The clamping force isn't as high either, I have a similarly larger head and these are way more comfortable!
Do the H100 reach higher volume levels than the H95s? For me, I have always wanted a little more volume out of the H95, like 20% more. If the H100 is louder I feel that is also an improvement. Thanks for the review!
anything over ~75% volume is on the verge of being painful to my ears without any distortion, and there is space for more volume. I don't fully remember how loud H95's went as it's been a while, but I don't remember them going as loud or a s deep as H100's.
I feel like the Phillips L4 headphones have the potential to be a strong competitor to these headphones at a fraction of the price, however people are saying that they get Bluetooth connection issues. Have you checked them out yet?
Hello, I own a pair of H95’s, my main devices are Apple and I use Apple Music. I found switching between devices is not seamless like the AirPods. Have they fixed this issue with the H100? Sound quality has always been superior however they are heavy when wearing compared to other devices on the market
That specific function of switching between devices I what Apple is keeping for itself for now, essentially it's them not letting others have access to that because as you state that's a major reason for you buying their headphones. It's unfortunate but I don't think B&O or anyone else really is allowed to have that function..
It's possible Apple is nerfing the multi-Point functionality. Because you should be able to connect these headphones to two devices concurrently without any interruption at all. It supports multi-Point.
Excellent video. Love your down to earth approach. I know Beoplay are allowing you to trade in some old headphones here in the UK for these. However, I really like my H95s and do not think I could justify the cost of the new ones. Never say never though. Is that an official B&O headphone stand you had in the video? Looks very good. Where can we buy one from ? Thanks
Thank you! I got it from a dealer that closed up in the Netherlands due to circumstances, I don't think they ever sold them publicly or were meant to, but I love the trinkets lol
i hav used h95 now but with a spec sheet it's look less change in a good way ex.weight, look, price, driver, battery 😢 if i have chance to test by myself hope it's better.
I am doing it from memory, but I would say it's a fair bit louder. Anything more than ~70-75% and that's my pain threshold with these, but that kind of depends on your ears and how much you can bare/how deaf you've become with life I guess. So I can't fully judge it for you, but I'd say yes.
Can you comment on how comfortable they are over several hours? I have a 5head and the H95s create a hotspot on the top of my head after like an hour, but I'm still able to use them because I bought a little headband wrap thing to make it more comfortable. Also in regards to the case, the fact that the H100s are $550 USD more than the H95s and yet they only come with a leather pouch is a bit of a downer considering the aluminum case is worth $200 USD on the website.
This headband is way more comfy, It's also slightly thicker over a wider area. other than that it's hard to judge for you, to me they are comfy for hours!
So jealous of all that audio goodness you have lying around. I'm still dazzled by my Beosound Stage. Thinking about adding an A9 or a couple of Balances. What would you do?
Some day you'll get there! As for your second question, depends a bit on your space. If you have the room an A9 is very nice and would be my choice, but if it's a bit of an odd shape and you need to spread out the sound a bit more I would consider Balances. The A9 to my ears is a lot smoother, mainly because of it's size and driver layout though in terms of power they don't seem as different.
Hi Miki! Awesome review. Very interesting headphone. I notice that the website clearly does not mention movie/video use. I appreciate that these are audio headphones but it would be a shame if they don't connect to the Apple TV 4K for spacial audio/atmos/surround. Can you confirm this? The AirPods Max and AirPods Pro really shine for this use with perfect lip sync etc - Apple TV 4K 3rd Gen and LG C2 OLED. It would be a shame as I feel that the AirPods Max customer could be the B&O H100 customer. Loving the new Cradle to Cradle approach from B&O - a new direction of late and highly refreshing. Hope that you are well.
I don't have an appletv anymore, so I'll try and figure out a way of seeing if I can test it. I would suspect you can connect them just fine. The thing I don't know is if apple does this walled of garden thing with their appletv's and their headphones, just because they can. On Iphone and Ipad Apple is very happy to give you full Atmos in an audio codec though, so I don't think there is any real limitation other than what apple allows.
@@Mikipedia Awesome thank you Miki :) I had to buy my Apple TV as I really didn't like the LG UI (but the picture & audio is superb with the TV) so best of both worlds AND the basic LG AirPlay would not AirPlay video from my Mac due to the file not being supported by LG - the Apple TV shines in that respect even with uncompressed 4K 60 :)
It's a piece or art or furniture and very customisable. It has to look good from every angle and you should never have to look at a stack of amps and or sources. At the smaller end that comparison works better but at the high end B&O speakers are not expensive compared to other brands. But you're essentially buying the beginning of a system that works in the entire home. It's a bit hard to explain if you haven't experienced it. One thing is for certain, they will not sell square wooden boxes, it's unmistakably Bang & Olufsen if you know them and very discreet if you don't.
Thanks for your quick reply! I understand what your saying. I’ve been watching reading reviews and it kinda confirmed my view. Expensive but quality, design and long term. Not best bang for buck. Too expensive for my bank account (for example beolab8). I do love how they integrate auto room EQ. All active speakers should do this (Kef!?).
I have SoNY wh-1000xm4, Denon H7200, Air Max, B&O EX, and a few others, about 7 pieces in total.About 3 days ago, I went to the B&O store to listen to the new H100 headphones. First of all, I was very surprised by the price. 1600$ is a lot, then I took and listened for about 20-30 minutes through my phone, Spotify. I can say that I didn't get a wow effect from them, I didn't hear from them something that I didn't get from my Sony MX4 or Denon. I personally did not like them, neither volume nor sound. I can also tell you that I have two B&O speakers at home.
They sound so damn nice and you can play loud without getting tired. And the feedback from the volume wheel is perfect (never liked it on the H95). And a big fan of the virtual mode when listening to some easy music or classic music, but for more "heavy" I like the normal mode. The virtual mode sounds more like listening in a room that having headphones on and its so relaxing and ambient. Its a lot of money but the 5 year warranty makes up for it if you ask me.
To me, absolutely! anything over ~75% is way too loud for me, as in on the threshold of being painful. I heard no distortions what so ever with ANC or without.
A guess would be that these are maybe 15-20% louder. And I can not hear any distortion on full power. For me the biggest difference (H95 vs H100) is that the mids and highs are just so much better on these. The volume wheel is a joy and the tune the greets you when you take them on is addictive (its a "I am on and connected" tune/melody). You can also map all the buttons for your liking and also the volume wheel (right or left). I LOVE the sound but they are expensive.
I have a pair of Portal's and they fit pretty nice. Then i tried H95 and my ears barely squeezed inside it's cups. I had to literally push ears with my fingers for more or less comfortable fit. How would you compare H100 and H95 it terms of cup size and depth?
It's hard to say as I don't have them next to each other but they are similar in size. The H100's may be slightly bigger, but it's probably only a few % bigger. The depth does seem better though, bit more ear relief inside.
They will support LDAC though software updates which is equivalent or better. Plus 3 device multipoint which is a big selling point for me as I need a do-it-all headphone for pc+workpc+phone
The people that B&O target for their products aren't sweating $1.5K. I see them advertised often in high end magazines like The Rake and Robb Report. We're well aware that the price does not necessarily translate to the highest possible sound quality available as much as it does branding, materials, craftsmanship, and perhaps to a degree, sound quality. The XM5s are great, but I bet these sound as good if not better and on top of that they look and feel significantly better. My H95s have lasted for years (and are still going like brand new).
It's very steep this time, but they are also a fair bit better. Unfortunately audio stops scaling for pice/sq after a certain point and I think we've just sort of arrived at that point now.
When is Beosound A9 Bluetooth 5.4 or Bluetooth 6.0 generation coming out? Next year??? Bluetooth 5.3 is kinda outdated. And if possible, can they use APTX Lossless Bluetooth codec for high end Bluetooth audio?
Why would you use BT for an A9 if you can use the internal streamer or use Tidal connect/Deezer/ airplay or Chromecast? BT seems like the worst connection of them all regardless of BT standard, unless you're in a really strange network situation.
@@Mikipedia Bluetooth is faster. Most good songs are lossy and CD quality. I am a dubstep guy. And my WiFi isn't the best. And Bluetooth HiFi is the future!!!
Hello, thanks for the review. I was wondering - do you experience any creaking from these headphones? I got myself a pair and as soon as I start walking or even sitting down make a significant head turn they creak. It kinda feels it’s coming from the head band but I’m not sure. To be honest that’s very distracting and not expected at that price point. What’s your experience with that?
@@Mikipedia I would say it was less at the beginning and got a little worse over about 3 weeks of use. I ended up going to the B&O store where I bought them and they exchanged it. They also could hear the creaking. The new pair seems to creek much less but unfortunately still does and it may also get worse with time. I love the sound of these and it’s so annoying that they may have this construction flaw. I suspect the plastic construction that sits underneath the removable head band.
How H100 sound compare to wired headphones (eg. Beyerdynamic DT1770/1990/T5, Sennheiser HD600/650/660s, Hifiman Ananda, Audeze LCD2, Focal Elegia/Celestee/Clear etc.)? I have H95, nice and stylish but sound quality is really poor (muddy, grainy sound with weak vocals.). They sound like entry level wired headpohes. There are some details but quite blurry, it's difficult to identify all instruments, no change to recognise what each instruments are playing. To get the best of them I paired them with Sony NW-WM1A and Astell&Kern Acro and Chord Mojo2. H95 are ok when using outdoor, but terrible for home listening. Fortunately, I bought them in sale for almost half of current price, still the most expensive headphones I've ever bought. They were more expensive than Hifiman Ananda, Beyrdynamic T5, Sony MDR z7 or Sennheiser HD660s. I have other cheaper headphones which easily outperform them. To be honest, I absolutely don't understand how somebody can say, that H95 sound great and also cannot understand why somebody is willing to spend 1500 euro for mediocre bluetooth headphones when you can get something like Sennheiser HD800s, Hifiman Arya, Audeze LCD or Focal Clear which are in different world regarding sound quality for similar price. B&O is extremely overpriced, likewise designer brand like Gucci or Prada. H100 may be good as a fashion supplement but not as proper audio device.
I tried the airpods max at a friend's and they were kinda bad in all aspects except nc and transparency to be honest. These are at another level. Tried the H95 in store and fell in love, these are supposed to be better than those. But this is just my subjective opinion
I don't know man! for me the design is a step back from the previous designs. Shiney Aluminium was beautiful, also for my years the round ear cups are more comfortable than oval or square shaped. Also, although B&O has always been expensive the previous headphones for a normal person you could buy one and not truely be taking a hit to your wallet or regret it. I feel like now the pricing is keep going out of normal enthusiasts hands. For me this is too effing expensive.
I'll try that later today, but I don't think so. The portals have two different receivers (BT & 2.4ghz) and the H100 can be BT or wired, I don't think they can be BT AND wired..
Hi Miki, Do you have any info about the hires codec that will be available later beside Ldac maybe aptx lossless and lC3...I dont understand what atmos does since for me it s'on Tidal end's not any headphones. Also they dont fold anymore :-/
To me these are a much more indoor type of headphone, so while I agree the weight is a fair bit higher I am not convinced it's a very big deal (yet)...
You can wire them though and have them play full on lossless. They can also be BT, if you have a dealer somewhere nearby please have a listen! I promise you it'll make more sense irl.
I can't look into your wallet and how much you love headphones. I probably wouldn't if I had H95's unless I could get a deal, but I don't have H95's. I know the price is steep but I think they are worth it. Hope you can try them out soon enough!
Well i can say that H100 brings no improvemement to ANC coing from an H95. Software is still work in progress. The leather carrying case is not appealing to me Ok i take that back, the NC has proven quite effective during commute...while it’s not the strongest anc it gets more than the job done
something like 90+% of B&O customers are on iPhone so aptx is sort of lost on most, but you can always go wired for an even better 24 bit 96khz experience.
@@MikipediaThat’s not a good excuse for us all android and windows users. I also hope B&O wont stop at just ldac...i expect them to get Le audio and aptx adaptive/lossless as well sinc B&O A1 or H95 have aptx adaptive... D'urine the unboxing there’s only a NFC card for Apple users...no love for android... Also i use my H100,on a commute with no problem whatsoever
1500 euros???why to prefer them than airpods max that i own, or at least mark levinsons???in 80's i was swearing to b&o, but now they exist good products as b&o produces, but much cheaper!!!
it was announced literally 2 days ago, last time a new standard was set it took like 9 months for the first product to show up with it. So how would this be possible?
@@Mikipedia well technically he’s not saying it is possible, just that he feels that they would be better with bt6.0. Nice in-depth review btw. Bedankt voor alle moeite!
0:49 bloody Are you serious? Have you ever tried wireless headphones? There are headphones under $150 that offer more than 50 hours of listening with ANC on, but 30 hours is a more than normal number and compared to the price, even if it is 40, this is not great.
@@Mikipedia Just hearing you say this, I knew you literally knew nothing about headphones😅 Anyone who has experience, even if it lasts for days or weeks, knows that this is not true
fair enough, I am rusty and in no way super professional and was on a super time crunch... I haven't made a video in over a year because of international moving.
I am honest, I think they are (just about). But I also think they are very expensive in the marketplace they are in, most people don't have this type of money for ''just'' headphones.
Well so is McLaren Bentley Lamborghini etc . cars catch my drift !!! as they say horses for courses If B&O stop development then they say it’s old and there are better out there in the market so they put it out there but it’s not like they are forcing you to buy them. These are not clearly designed for a great majority of people in the market but a very small niche that want the very best out there So with all do respect of you have to justify if they are worth it or not maybe that are not for you and I am saying that with no disrespect or offence what so ever as there are headphones that are substantially higher in price than h100 and people for that market world not bat an eye to get them like focal, sennheiser etc.

Haven't heard a Focal, but have heard the RAAL Sr1a (audiophile headphone), and it sounds MUCH better than what B&o has to offer. I still like B&O's headphones for my school usage but not comparable.
@@jumbocrunchh but have you heard the H100? 🙂
I haven't heard those but compared these seem ''cheap'' if that's possible lol. It's hard to say for me, but I suspect yes they can compete. Your dealer is waiting for you with a pair to try! Make that collection bigger :D
Awesome Review 👍🏻, slap some 50s on your ears 😂, pricey but I can imagine how good they must be .
Try a pair ;p
Great review. Thx’s. Actually how many speakers sets do you have ?
Thanks! Are you just asking about Beolabs? If so, seven sets of 2.
So you prefer the overall wireless sound of the stac s5 over the h100? Have you heard them both?
I have them both. They have a very different signature, but I guess I am more of a planar person. Given that the Stax s5 still have decent bass. If bass matters more, the bh100 is the one. It is so much better than a Sony xm5.
Looks interesting. Are the batteries also replaceable?
yes, though they may want you to send them in to a dealer for that to not damage any of the tiny wires (it's more a warranty thing I think).
Another great presentation my friend 🤗
Thank you! Cheers!
Now I’m very excited to test them tomorrow. Sorry for both of us that I will buy them if pleasent at the B&O Store here in Zurich
No worries mate, I don't make anything on this, just trying to give everyone a little leg up :D
@@Mikipedia done so. I really love the sound quality, and also how loud they are. Some songs even 50% is already more then enough for me. And I really like that everything can be replaced if broken. Thanks for the video! Can just empathize as you did, go and see and touch them
in person.
Thank you so much! I'll definitely try it out in the store. I'll be looking forward to the podcast also
Do the H100 reach higher volume levels than the H95s?
I don't have any store near me that carries them to try them unfortunately.
Hello, I own a pair of H95’s, my main devices are Apple and I use Apple Music. I found switching between devices is not seamless like the AirPods. Have they fixed this issue with the H100? Sound quality has always been superior however they are heavy when wearing compared to other devices on the market
sq-wise , h95s are MUCH better than airpods max???
That specific function of switching between devices I what Apple is keeping for itself for now, essentially it's them not letting others have access to that because as you state that's a major reason for you buying their headphones. It's unfortunate but I don't think B&O or anyone else really is allowed to have that function..
@@MikipediaBut any earbuds can support multi-Point which is even more seamless than Apple. But it's just limited to two or sometimes three devices.
Picked mine up last week. Still can't update the app as it's still "unreleased"😂
Really happy with them, especially dialing in the ANC.
Be vewwy quiet
You'll be ok if you
🤫join the beta app🤫
Also the app should be updated right now to function, may be another hour or two depending on where you are!
i hav used h95 now but with a spec sheet it's look less change in a good way ex.weight, look, price, driver, battery 😢 if i have chance to test by myself hope it's better.
It sounds better for sure and with the way the headband is designed much longer lasting. Hope you try them some day soon!
Is it slightly louder than the H95?
@@Mikipedia the room is a rectangle, 12m x 8m. So an easy shape. I love the a9 design. So beautiful
A9 all the way I would say but neither option is really any worse than the other, it's more preference!
Great video thanks...
Thank you!
Spotify is not the source to use for things like this, but if you love Spotify then the other headphones will absolutely do and be a fine choice.
How is the clamp and the sides compared to the h95? The h95 always fall off my head when I’m exercising. The sides always collide too.
You're the first person I've ever heard say that. Most people find them (H95) way too tight, the H100's are a bit softer on the clamping force.
how is that possible? My h95 were super tight, uncomfortable for my ears
@@alexsmith1207 Guess my head is just small 🥲. The top headrest band would always slide off when I tilt my head forward or lean backward.
hows the volume compared to their other headphones? do they get loud? Are they distorted at high volumes?
Crazy price esp no aptx lossless!
what sound source you are using, that would use aptX?

How many years have you had the h95?
When is Beosound A9 Bluetooth 5.4 or Bluetooth 6.0 generation coming out?
Next year???
Bluetooth 5.3 is kinda outdated.
And if possible, can they use APTX Lossless Bluetooth codec for high end Bluetooth audio?
Why would you use BT for an A9 if you can use the internal streamer or use Tidal connect/Deezer/ airplay or Chromecast? BT seems like the worst connection of them all regardless of BT standard, unless you're in a really strange network situation.

I do not have this at all, has it gone away with more use or gotten worse?
@@Mikipedia I would say it was less at the beginning and got a little worse over about 3 weeks of use. I ended up going to the B&O store where I bought them and they exchanged it. They also could hear the creaking. The new pair seems to creek much less but unfortunately still does and it may also get worse with time. I love the sound of these and it’s so annoying that they may have this construction flaw. I suspect the plastic construction that sits underneath the removable head band.
Do you or anyone in the chat notice that they creak from time to time when going to put them on? Is this normal with B&O?
I prefer my beoplay ex more than my h95. Not sure where h100 will stand.
I don't know, they are very different products that do very similar things. In ear vs over ear is a personal preference.
I want a pair so bad. I just cant afford one.
I know the feeling, we all have our unmet desires...
$1,657.43 after tax here in the US. Are they worth an extra $1,000 over the Airpods Max?
I think they are, but I can't decide that for you unfortunately. If you can find a dealer near you, just have a demo there and see what you think!
I understand that, it is kind of for people that wouldn't lose sleep over these sorts of prices. They are worth it but the price is a bit ''oof''...
How do they compare to the Mark Levinson 5909s?
I don't know, I don't own them and haven't heard them.
can you use it in dual input mode like the portals?
I'll try that later today, but I don't think so. The portals have two different receivers (BT & 2.4ghz) and the H100 can be BT or wired, I don't think they can be BT AND wired..
Nice review.
Thanks!

Are you serious? Have you ever tried wireless headphones? There are headphones under $150 that offer more than 50 hours of listening with ANC on, but 30 hours is a more than normal number and compared to the price, even if it is 40, this is not great.
Better drivers take more power and thus drain batteries quicker. So yeah, it's not exactly rocket science.

Well so is McLaren Bentley Lamborghini etc . cars catch my drift !!! as they say horses for courses
If B&O stop development then they say it’s old and there are better out there in the market so they put it out there but it’s not like they are forcing you to buy them.
These are not clearly designed for a great majority of people in the market but a very small niche that want the very best out there
So with all do respect of you have to justify if they are worth it or not maybe that are not for you and I am saying that with no disrespect or offence what so ever as there are headphones that are substantially higher in price than h100 and people for that market world not bat an eye to get them like focal, sennheiser etc.
