Genial
Er...why isn'y Manuel de Falla discussed as much as, say, Prokofiev, or Bartok? He was INSANELY talented! Did anyone hear his Harpsichord Concerto? It's a modern masterpiece, and his Nights in Spanish gardens gives Respighi a run for his money (in terms of mood, etc).
Spanish music is all about rhythm. It's like a powerful train that runs over everything on its path. There's nothing the orchestra, dancers and we as listeners can do, but to keep up with its unforgiving pace. Fantastic !!
Act I: 0:47 - Introducción/Introduction 2:25 - La Tarde/Afternoon 7:59 - Danza de la molinera/Dance of the Miller's Wife (Fandango) 11:42 - Las uvas/The Grapes [15:45 - Applause] Act II: 16:12 - Danza de los vecinos/Dance of the Neighbours (Seguidillas) [19:19 - Applause] 19:28 - Danza del molinero/Dance of the Miller (Farruca) 28:28 - Danza del corregidor/Dance of the Magistrate 35:19 - Danza final/Final Dance (Jota) [41:08 - Applause]
Glad somebody mentions Falla's Harpsichord Concerto! An amazing combination of atonality with tonality, dysrhythmia with rhythm, contemporary music with folk music. The entire musical revolution of the first half of the XX century in three movements. It changed my notion of music first time I heard it 45 years ago.
I loved the energy of this. One of my favourite pieces of music. Thrilling to see it being danced to - after all, that's what it was written for. The footfalls are part of the event, with flamenco all the more so. Thanks very much for uploading it.
Wonderful performance, it is great to see dancers so together with the orchestra. Every ballet school should study folk dances to make sure their dancers are in tempo with the music and moves are not disconnected from inner pulse of players and conductor. Bravi tutti great show!
Ballets Russes. Secaucus, New Jersey: Quarto Book, Wellfleet Press.
great perfomance. Manuel de Falla friend of his disciple Federico Garcia Lorca who loved playing piano Falla´ s works refused to come back after he exiled in year 1939 from Spain. because Franco´s victory to the civil war. He died in 1946 in Buenos Aires. His body was buried at Cadiz Cathedral three months later
This production is probably more erotic than da Falla might have countenanced (his eroticism was largely slapstick) but what energy here, both the dancing and the music. Look after yourselves
With Spanish dancing the footwork sounds are an integral part of the music -essentially Flamenco. This is Flamenco 'extended' in to a balletic form. Here we have a wonderful performance and a rare opportunity to see and hear this as it should be experienced. Expand your horizons! 🤗

Because he was Spanish and in a not very good moment (Spanish Civil War, Franco's regime...). For me one of the top composers in history.
@@javiervazquez5556 "one of the top composers in history" Absolutely!!!!!!!!!!!

I have never heard such a wonderful "The Three-Cornered Hat"!
Wonderful Music and the Dear Old Albert Brings back memories of singing there as a humble member of the Philharmonia Chorus many years ago

is not a Russian ballet. They are Antonio Marquez's company, from Spain.
+xBNHx What is Russian is not this company, but the ballet that commissioned the composition of this music in the 1910's.

By the way, what kind of mill is the one of the miller's? Olive oil mill? If anyone answers, I would appreciate it.
+Chang Ho Choe its a mill to grind the wheat to make bread. A wheat mill. Cheers from Seville
Oh, Alejandro, thanks a lot.
I think olive has a press not mill
Anyone know who the woman presenter at the very beginning is? Her voice is so familiar, but I can’t place it. Much thanks.

poor gracia lorca...:( reminds me of him, and his poetry..:)
Is this the original coreography from Massine?
eudorabis No, apparently it’s not.

¡Excelente!

The footsteps are louder than the orchestra. The sound mixing should have been better.

Oh don't be silly al1936ful. This is Flamenco! The step sounds are a part of the music.
