I found many inspiring moments in this video. I'm going right now to my back yard to find something to stitch around, maybe a twig. The time I spent watching the video was worth it. Thank you!
Thank you so much for how to do dry leaves on slow stitching. I love leaves and havce some dry ones I have had a long time I love all your ideas. again THANK YOU SO MUCH
Hi Daniela: Thank you for this great idea! I’m so new to slow stitching, but I think this would be a good project. I have lots of artificial leaves and flowers that I use for crafting and plenty of fabric. I’m excited to get started. 💜😎🇺🇸
That's true, the leaf dries. It''s a different effect and one that I like. The stitching has contained the dried leaf, years later. Stitching found objects, or specifically leaves, may not be a technique that you prefer.
This is great! As someone else mentioned, I wonder how the leaf will look after time. I have some larger leaves that I soaked in glycerin last summer and want to try out in projects. I've considered painting one one or actually stitching onto the leaf. Do you have experience with glycerin soaked leaves? or with actually stitching through leaves?
Thanks. I think the glycerine soaked leaves will be preserved and remain more "lifelike" when used in stitching. While you can try stitching through or into the leaf, I would be concerned about the stitches (closest to the edges) tearing or 'bleeding' glycerine or some substance.
I like this for a seasonal of leaves ….Have you ever done a piece where fabric is used to make a window pane and then sew these pieces, to make the pane, to main piece of fabric that has scenery as its pattern ….. I think that would be pretty in a booklet
Yes I do! The leaf is dry and brittle, and off color, but still intact. I did a follow up video th-cam.com/video/W6NUy1C9EJI/w-d-xo.html showing some of the deterioration. Thanks for asking!
@@DanielaMellen Hi from down under in Australia. Have you done the video on cleaning/sanitising feathers? I love feathers but am concerned about cleaning. Thanks so much for what you do and share I appreciate your time and ideas
@@leannesawtell1155 Yes! Here's the link...th-cam.com/video/vB5vl5mYKSI/w-d-xo.html Hope you find it helpful. How to Clean & Santitize Feathers To Use in Artwork and Slow Stitching
The leaf should keep in place because the stitches create a cage. If the variety of leaf is highly brittle, than the leaf could eventually crumble. So, if you want to use a leaf, as opposed to a feather or something longer lasting, choose a variety that is more durable, use an artificial leaf, or a preserved one. I may do a video with an update of the leaf since many people are curious. Thanks for asking.
That's a very good question. There is a good possibility that could happen. So far, it's been a few months, it's dried, but still intact. I think a lot depends on the type of leaf used and how the piece is stored. I store my flat, in a dry area.
Most probably. I'll keep you posted as to how much, but I suspect that will vary by type of leaf, etc. These are from a flowering bush, and will become dry and paperlike. But, I think the stitching will hold it in place, unless it decays into pieces.
@@tanniedh9832 Hi I was thinking of maybe keeping the thread long on the back. If you would be able to go back later and tighten (for shrinkage). Please give us a leaf update.😀 Laura
i love it. Are suggesting the same type of stitch for the other items? Will they stay? Fall now. have been gathering those beautiful fall leaves.I will adopt your creativity. Thank you for all your teachings

This is very nice, Daniela. Slanting the couching stitches looked great, then crossing them! Up another notch!
Glad you liked it!!
Looks great.
Thanks!
Great demo! Really opens up lots of opportunity for my craft.

What a great use of those leaves and flowers!
Thank you for an excellent video.

The idea of couching is wonderful! Love the colours! I think this is my favourite tag so far😊❤Thanks
Thanks so much.
Such a cute ideal. Thank you and I will have to try it and I am a newbie at this 😊 ☺ 😄
Thanks! Give it a try!
For the leaf die and shrivel up later on?

@@DanielaMellen oh, I didn't consider or realize that the glycerine might bleed. Thanks.

Thank you. So fun! Do you still have this piece? I'd love to know how the leaf held up.

Very interesting video. I always wonder how to clean these. Or one could put it in a frame. ❤️
Yes you can! And thank you for the idea, I'll do a video on cleaning/sanitizing found feathers!

How will that keep the leaf in place once it dries op?

Doesn’t the leaf dry up ?
It does. Here's a quick update video. th-cam.com/video/W6NUy1C9EJI/w-d-xo.html
This is cute but won’t the leaf eventually just dry up and you’ll be left with some threads which crisscrossed it originally?

Be careful with feathers, it is illegal to have most of them.
True.
