i love it when the chapter 3 went from “ooooooo spooky zombies” to “Are you truly perfect? Do you feel any weight on your soul? Do you feel anchored by your emotions?”
I felt really bad killing fear, he pleaded and cried out to stop. For us and for him. Trying to save us. Just like fear in real life. Fear keeps us alive, it teaches us what’s dangerous and what’s not.
Never before had a summon scared me, because all I saw was, “Fear used Call for help” and then suddenly the music stops and the screen goes black for a second, they did a great creepy factor here
All of these fights, alongside the final one of course, are some of the most creative interpretations of "facing your burdens" in video games i think i've ever seen. I love how the themes for the insecurity fights all fit what they're trying to represent too: - Greed is jazzy and bombastic because of how it feels to just give into greed, letting yourself indulge in desire and be a glutton basically - Isolation/Solitude is melancholic and ethereal to represent that feeling of just wanting to...well, _isolate_ yourself from the entire world to avoid being judged. That or just feeling lonely - Fear is *erratic and desperate* because of that overwhelming dread that only keeps getting worse, as if you're about to collapse and have a heart attack on the spot
I also like how the 4 emotion’s designs also reflect the things they represent. Greed is a mostly normal stick figure with elongated/lots of arms, representing greed’s want for more, always grabbing and grasping for the next new treasure, and with it being a normal stick figure representing how anyone can fall into the trap of greed. Solitude is a giant eye, representing the player’s want to distance themselves from others because they feel like so many are *watching* them, as they are the chosen one, it also might be how being completely alone has you staring into a metaphorical void for eternity. Fear is a strange tree-like thing, with the ability to hide and camouflage allowing it to escape danger, but never really being able to do anything or go anywhere, stuck in place. It also has lots of hands, which unlike Greed’s which are rubbery and bouncy, are sharp and jagged. People often fidget with their hands when they are scared or nervous. Hatred resembles a typical demon or devil creature, which are signs of anger or wrath. It also has a lot of screaming imagery in its moves, a sign of anger or primal rage.
It’s so good how Fear is protrayed. Calling for help, begging for you to take the right path and not be brave enough to take the unknown way, just trying to get you to stop so you can stay alive, it’s so good.

I have a theory, but this could be false. Fear is actually going to play a HUGE role in the last demo. You see, when we ask about the GhostWalker to the Ghost chef, he says that we must purify our soul to grab it, otherwise we will die touching it. And when nobody was around when we got to it, we made a CHOICE. It’s easily understandable that the Player actually CONSIDERED touching the Ghostwalker, we can tell by us thinking about touching the Ghostwalker itself, but eventually touch it. I think this act WAS ON PURPOSE, but not in the way most think. When we first wake up from Terry’s bed, it’s clear to most that we are a time traveler, so we should be aware of this act. Anyway, moving on, when we first meet “Builderman” we are told that we must do what we have to, and that is to purify the soul. This would explain why Fear knows what is dangerous, and not. By making FEAR collapse, we actually unlock ourselves to where we can do whatever we want without nobody stopping us. Coming back to when we first touched the Ghostwalker, it was most likely Fear who tried to stop us from doing so, hinged with the audio cue. However, our mindset was too gullible. Hatred wanted this to happen, he wanted us to make Fear collapse, he was basically telling us to do our own path, and do a risk if needed. That could also be the reason why we TAMED Hatred, since we can’t let him do damage to our real life, but instead be a spectator and only give us a feeling of hate, but a little less. If we don’t have fear, we will have less chance of survival, due to FEAR being very aware. We can only be scared, as the guardian has to watch us be afraid. FEAR could be the Key to Block Tales, because now that FEAR is weakened, thanks to Hatred, we can make our own choices without anyone stopping us. Heck, we’ve even yet to see a choice option that involves the Player, and not anyone else. So maybe when we get closer to the end, we get to make more (possibly deadly) choices (thanks to the damage we did to FEAR) that affect our game forever. If you’re still reading, thanks for your time, I just thought of this when I was watching the OST.
Imagine, it's going to be like UNDERTALE, where our choices actually matters, where one choice will *that* free will, and one of them is trough our control over our grief; since we've beaten HATE, which means our character will have control over several choice. Fear really warned us. Solitude did too. But it wasnt as clear as fears. Solitude kept on saying"i wont let you end me" with the "you" being the color orange or builderman.
the fact fear is correct is kinda something i like, cause fear isnt just a useless thing, it stops us from doing dangerous things, most of the time in media its wrong, but this time it was right
You know, if we were gaslit by Hatred to kill Fear, does that mean that we are now unable to feel fear in the later chapters? Hatred was trying to get us to succumb to Greed and Solitude, but it WANTED us to kill Fear. We did, and that might make our lives in the game WAY harder in the future.

@@Man_Noob_real realised is still correct, it's just the UK form. same with colour being a correct variation of color, or neighbour being a correct variation of neighbor.
This boss was the only one that mentally hurt me. Like actually got me considering what I've done. But defeating fear gave me somewhat a confidence boost.
So me and some buddies played through this a while ago and we realized that the purple area was fear pretty quickly, and they were jokingly saying "Fear's gonna stop scaring others and start being scared once you show them that atrocity of a build." The entire VC erupted into laughter upon realizing that the embodiment of Fear was exactly that, being scared instead of scaring others. By the way my friends were right cuz we nuked the living daylights out of him with dynamite and a ton of buffs. (please revert the dynamite nerf why did you do that it was fine before)
it makes so much in this context because those are 2 examples of nightmarish creatures that people would be absolutely fearful for. a eldritch being that can literally distort reality before you. and another thats an horrifying amalgamation of recognizable creatures you’ve seen before. I love this game so much!
seeing that little picture where you get the dust of the purple trees was phenomenal foreshadowing specifically to me because i'm a sucker for secrets so it was always in the back of my mind. so ` if you see those trees go the way of the arrow !! ` was stuck in my head for a good while. And then I had to not go the way the arrow had been pointing me that entire time. gaah i cant put into words how cool that was and its such a mundane little detail !! demo 3 surpassed my expectations and then some
i remembered it when i got there and thought it was a puzzle so i wanted to do what you had to do right the first time, so i was just standing there trying to figure out what the puzzle was because i forgot the arrow and only remembered the purple trees
@@Idrisroblox_dev I don’t think ‘ I thought the purple picture was hinting toward a secret where you had to follow where the arrow on the picture was pointing so I kept it in the back of my mind, so when we had to go the way the arrow wasn’t pointing in the actual section it had more of an impact ‘ is hard to understand but here’s hoping that summarisation was good enough for you ??
This game very well represented fear. It tries to help you by scaring you away from danger, the sheer intensity driving you away from that which could harm you, and the character portrays this perfectly.

I found it really funny when Fear used Call for Help, and the screen went pitch black, and came back to normal but then a blob was there and I was like “ENDERMITE???” 2 seconds later I found out it was named “Phobia” and I still laugh at that
Fear is more afraid of you than you are it... perfect description of irrational fears, i absolutely love the writing. also UNDERTALE REFERENCE IN THE SO- *dispersal of my molocules*
incase you haven't noticed there are VERY FAINT sounds that sound similar from the original 4 psychological horror games being Greed-Undertale/Deltarune Solitude-omori Fear-yume nikki and hatred-earthbound in every song there are faint themes from their perspective games
For somereason, that melody that comes in around 0:39 kinda sounds like Hopes And Dreams. If you hum Hopes And Dreams it sounds pretty similar. Probably not important, just a thing I noticed.
I love how... Greed “Tried to catch you” ( *To the dark safe silly place* ) Solitude “Tried to watch you” ( *To make you normal again* ) Fear “Tried to save you” ( *From fake builderman* )
fears silencing ability was such a nice touch, same with the call for help. silencing the player from getting help and being blinded from trying to face your phobias were really depressing nods into the characters emotions
Man, Fear's puzzle gave me Oneshot flashbacks because of how similiar that puzzle was PS: and the fact the walls/floor(?) was purple color reminded me even more of it
by far the best ost in block tales, period. gives that "it cant get worse right" to "oh my fucking god" vibe almost as if you're about collapse and die of a heart attack. fear (and dream world in general) resonated so much with this dreadful... overwhelming life. Block tales devs istg I'm shitting myself for chapter 4
i **FEAR** that this might be the best song in the game i have **SOLITUDE** and Isolation, Lack of agreement that this might be the best song in the game My **HATRED** does not like that this song is underrated The **GREED** of mine wants more attention to this song
"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."
I love the added detail of hearing heartbeats (e.g., an early, prominent example would be between 0:07 and 0:21), really ties the boss fight together and adds some extra symbolism to the character of Fear. Loved this song, one of my favorites!
this theme is probably one of the best in the game right now, and combined with the absolute insane fight this was, and the added details like the music cutting out when fear called for help was so cool. i'm just worried this chapter is going to be the peak of this game with how much it felt like the stakes were raised and just how insane the jump in quality was
I had a knot in my throat when I began to fight Fear. There was an unsettling pit in my stomach which felt filled with lead. I wanted cry and stop the game then and there, but I forced myself into the fight opening with Jet Boots. Suddenly I could breathe again and focused on what I needed to do. By the end I felt so much better, and at peace, ready to face anything. Its been a long time since a game made me feel that emotionally connected. Blocktales invests in you as their cherished player, and deeply encourages the value of self-reflection, a critical life skill at any age.

I feel like no one mentions how “Builderman” manipulates you into killing Fear The only thing standing in his way from control are Greed, Solitude, and Fear He gets you to kill Greed first. Greed is a deadly sin, so it’s not surprising that it needs to be fought. He even baits you into the trap so Greed will attack first. Not only does this take out one of the things impeding on his plan, it also pulls you in. You think “oh, so we’re killing sins, that’s fine.” Then you get to Solitude. Solitude doesn’t WANT to fight you, he’s just sitting alone. Builderman hypes up the fight by warning you that Solitude has never met another person, and will likely be violent. Solitude also isn’t a sin, so why are you fighting him? But Builderman has already manipulated you, you trust him, and Solitude isn’t a good emotion. Besides, that’s the only way to get out of here, right? Then you reach Fear. Fear doesn’t attack you, he actively tries to make you go away. He doesn’t want to hurt you, he wants to help and protect you. Fear isn’t even a sin, it’s something made to protect you from danger. He even warns you about Builderman. But Builderman hasn’t attacked you even when you put your trust into him, there’s no way he’s evil. So you fight Fear. He’s blocking your way out and you’ve already fought the others, might as well take him out too. Builderman gets you to trust him by starting with something good and easy, fighting Greed (an aggressive sin). Then he shifts to Solitude, who’s noticeable less aggressive and isn’t even that evil, but it’s close enough. Finally you reach Fear, and using thanks to your trust (and bias) in Builderman, you villainize someone who’s only trying to help. Builderman controls you like a cult leader, taking you step by step down a darker path. Going from a good decision to an evil one is unlikely to work, but going from a good one to a little less good to a little less to slightly bad to slightly more bad and so on is much more effective.

I love how fear isn’t afraid of the player it’s just afraid to be feared (it’s also trying to help the player which is so sad)
I feel like no one mentions how “Builderman” manipulates you into killing Fear
The only thing standing in his way from control are Greed, Solitude, and Fear
He gets you to kill Greed first. Greed is a deadly sin, so it’s not surprising that it needs to be fought. He even baits you into the trap so Greed will attack first. Not only does this take out one of the things impeding on his plan, it also pulls you in. You think “oh, so we’re killing sins, that’s fine.”
Then you get to Solitude.
Fear summoning a phobia... It does kind of make sense if you think about it.
