  • After spending so much time in Prince Albert National Park, I finally made a point of hiking to Grey Owl's Cabin. It was a long time coming. Fantastic weather and a fantastic trail. The campsites I wanted were taken so I had to opt for longer hike in. But it was so worth it. Thanks Mom and Dad for taking me camping in the park all those years ago. So much gratitude to be back in the park and making the pilgrimage to such a special place.

It was nice to see this as I cannot walk as well any more and wish I could go there. Thanks for sharing.

Kudos to you i have walked in the trail 30 minutes in and 30 minutes out! Did you see any Bears?

I was expecting bears but didn’t see a one. There was a fair amount of sign along the trail but that was the extent of it. Since I was alone, I lugged along 2 bear spray canisters - all for not but still good to have handy!

Was on my bucket list for several years, too. I hiked this trail in July 2021. All by myself and had an awesome time. Was it hard, YES. Did I run out of water, yes. Was I afraid of bears? Not as much as I was afraid of wildfires at that point. Bears were scary, too. Thank you foir sharing your adventure. May your future be filled with more adventure and more cross outs on your bucket list.

Thanks so much! I know I have lots to learn but the process is a lot of fun. I'm heading to Grasslands National Park this week - hope to get a number of video out of it. I really appreciate the comment - going to keep going on!

Are there bear boxes there? Or does one need to bring bear bag/box?

They have platforms, about 12 feet off the ground. You put your stuff up with the ladder that’s there. Then take the ladder down. Basically bear proof. Worth having a pack cover or dry bag though as they are not covered.

which camp area did you stay at?

I was at the Northend Campground. Furthest site to the west (sites are not numbered). If you’re doing the hike over 3 days/2 nights, I’d suggest Sandy Beach campground at about km 14 on the trail.
