I've had this printer for several months now, and I haven't encountered any technical difficulties at all with it. My only gripe is that it's compatible with Windows only and is not compatible with OS X or Linux operating systems. I'm sorry to hear that you've had troubles with your printer, but given that, and given that I have had no troubles with it, places the printer more along the middle-ground lines of somewhere in between your back here and send my good experience.

Yes I can realize that a bit too late. I found the answer of sorts though to print to it from OS X or any other OS that is not Windows, but this method utilizes Windows. Basically register the printer with Google cloud print on a Windows computer, and then on your OS X or any other operating system computer if you print using Google Chrome, you can then print to this printer. I suppose it's similar to how you would set up a network printer, except this goes beyond a local network and also you don't have to install the Drivers files for said printer to work. if one could install the proper drivers, then they wouldn't have to resort to this. but regardless, this method works..
Paper feeder issue is common with all sp100. It is due to dust accommodation on its roller, I had same problem so launched complaint and technician just cleaned the roller. don't try yourself. for INR 4000 it is steal deal. Because you can refill it with its original toner powder which cost about INR 400 and gives you app 1000 prints. Best printer in INR 4000.
I am very disappointed after receiving my printer Aficio SP 100 . Since it has no Mac drivers. Anywhere on your site or your vendors ( shop clues.com in this case) it is not declared in mini my system requirements that your product only supports windows and not mac os . This is very misleading and leads to misinforming the consumer. It is very shortsightedness on a global companies part to not support mac. And then hiding it from the consumer is not professional and legally harmful for your firm. Attached is a frame from the you tube video Aficio SP 100 - Ricoh India. it clearly shows a macbook pro next to your printer. I would request you to take this printer back or provide me with the drivers for it ASAP ( within a month) Please let me know what can be done.

VISHKI yes I have to literally push the paper inside by force and that is really frustrating. but I do not use it on a regular basis, may be that is the reason why my printer is still intact and not broken into pieces...

Best part is that the cartridge is refillable. If its available to you at comparatively low price, go ahead with it. It is very economical to use because it can be refilled. If the printer is not cheap or your use is ocassional, go for HP or Samsung. The availablity of cartridges though expensive for these is good(in India). For other printers, the cartridge availability is poor. Also check Epson Inktank printers. Inkjet printers are very slow compared to this, but ink tank makes them very economical.

I'm confused between Ricoh SP100/200, Samsung - ML 2161 and Brother - HL 1111. Sadly HP LaserJet 1020 beyond my budget. Which one will be economical and last long if I print occasionally ?

Arvind Bakshi I haven't tried local market toner, but it should work. I have no idea of Canon. I think how many times in a laser printer mainly depends on the drum life. I remember reading this printers drum life to be 12000 pages(not very sure) though it may actually last much longer. So I think on a minimum side you can refill the cartridge for upto 12000pages.
You can download the software/drivers from their website. You can install and use it even if the cd is not working. But I think this also came with firmware upgrade cd. It is better to upgrade the firmware. if you are unable to find the firmware upgrade online, you can first upgrade the firmware by connecting to your friends pc or by copying the software to an usb drive from another computer. Yes, should be the best and cheapest for studies. Just remember that it is black and white prints only. Prints fast, cheap, refillable which I think is what a student needs. Go ahead and buy.
I got one of these, but it has stopped working. I guess it have printed around 100 to 150 pages on the first cartridge. Is there any indication by flashing lights etc when the toner has run out ? (Mine has now got a steady blue light, and a flashing red light) -In England the toner costs more than the printer, so I thought I would try to make sure the fault is an empty cartridge, before rushing out to buy a new cartridge ... Morten Kristoffersen The cartridge does not have any electronics/chips for indication. So there is no indication of toner/cartridge running out. Steady blue light is power on and that seems to be normal. Flashing red is some error, may be paper jam, out of paper, cartridge not properly inserted. Could be any error, I just checked the user guide and there is no clarity on red flashing. We probably just have to guess. One frequent issue I face is paper input. There is some issue with paper input on similar models. The paper doesn't go in. The printer tries to print when you first switch it on, the paper doesn't go in so the red light starts flashing. If its the same case with you, remove paper from input feeder and try inserting single paper or bunch of papers. It sometimes takes 3 or 4 attempts. I guess this is the most probably cause. I had this issue in the beginning but it is less frequent now. Here is the line from user guide. "This indicator lights up red when the machine runs out of paper or consumables, when the paper settings do match the settings specified by the driver, or when other abnormalities occur."

It has a duty cycle of 10,000 pages per month(from spec listings on various websites), so 2000 pages per week is ok. But if I were to you, I'll choose something else. This printer is kind of delicate, specially the output and input trays and for the high pages you are talking, it becomes difficult to handle a delicate equipment. Moreover the input tray capacity is low, I do not remember but may be 50 pages, so you have to keep loading again and again. So I'd choose something more rugged. May be a higher model from Ricoh which has refillable cartridge. But if you are getting this one cheap, nothing wrong in trying out. Because even if you fill the cartridge twice or thrice, it pays back the printer cost.
koko285 See if the drivers and software are available online. I heard that downloadable is not in english. Make sure you create a restore point before installation so that you can restore in case installation is not usable. Other option is to use a virtual cd drive, for this you will need another pc with a cd drive to copy the contents of the original disk.
