    I just ordered a machine and have been binge-watching videos. On one, I saw a great tip about lessening the bulk from the serger seam. She clipped it right at the fold of the hem, perpendicular to the seam, and then like in quilting, you can have the seams "nest" by having the long surged seam go in the direction it was pressed, and then flip over the small hem seam to go in the opposite direction. This cuts the thickness by half and as you're sewing, it locks the seams together. You won't need to use the seam jumper that way. I hope this is clear. I hope I can give something back to you!

    loved it!.. clear, easy and so well explained.. but what I likeed the most was that you go straight to the point.. sometimes in these kind of videos people take half of the vido just saying thanks for this, thanks for that and bla bla bla...

    What a great vid! I'm new - how do you anchor the chain stitch? Or, how do you secure the decorative reverse one (rainbow)?

    • @LizGrylls
      @LizGrylls  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's no need to anchor at the start. At the end you need to finish in the way I show (pull the needle threads forward, snip them and pull back and to the left) and that will knot them. Then you can tie the ends in a little granny knot and thread them back through the loopy stitches if you want to, or just snip the ends off.

    I also like to do overlapped seams with the "loopy" side on the right side of the seam - I've done that with a few tees and sweatshirts using a sparkly, colourful wooly nylon in the looper. Love the result!

    • @LizGrylls

      Sorry for the late reply, it's a hump jumper also known as a bulky seam aid. They're not strictly necessary, you can do the same thing using a piece of thick fabric folded over.

  • @barkster
    @barkster ปีที่แล้ว

    so when your done, you don't have to tie the threads together on the bottom chain side? The top your just cutting the threads also?

    • @LizGrylls
      @LizGrylls  ปีที่แล้ว

      You pull the needle threads to the front from under the presser foot and cut them, then pull the whole garment to the back and left. It will knot the threads for you if you do it that way. If you wish you can knot them again or thread them through the looper threads, add fray check or burn them with a lighter.

    I was told a three needle coverstitch would hold a seam better than a Flatlock stitch?

    • @LizGrylls
      @LizGrylls  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it probably all depends on the manner in which they're sewn together. A true flatlock seam will have the edges butted together and the flatlock is sewn over the top. The three needle coverstitch (the way I sew it) is a decorative addition to a seam that's already been sewn and finished with an overlocker, so will add strength.
