  • Robert Charles Durman Mitchum, 79 (6th August 1917 - 1st July 1997) was an American film actor, director, author, poet, composer, and singer. Mitchum rose to prominence for his starring roles in several classic films noir, and is generally considered a forerunner of the antiheroes prevalent in film during the 1950s and 1960s. His best-known films include Out of the Past (1947), The Night of the Hunter (1955), and Cape Fear (1962). Mitchum was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for The Story of G.I. Joe (1945).

    No facade!
    Robert Mitchum was the coolest guy in Hollywood! He was a real down to earth guy, a promoters nightmare! It was a job of work he could do and paid his bills, no pretensions, but the interviewers were looking for something more profound and they just couldn’t believe his simple truth.
    Loved this guy!x

    STILL my MOST FAV actor ever! Love to see all this interviews--over and over. He was brilliant--but didn't get all the roles I would have wished. El Dorado, a favorite! He was so ahead of the times! Under that sober exterior was a very multi-faceted, intelligent being.

    I was twelve when robert mitchum was put in jail for possession of marijuana and remember what a scandal it was
    I think it was late forties
