    I gotta ask. So many of you are commenting about the price of and need for these components. Many are saying the mark up is extreme or the products are not worth the money. Yet, if you are a subscriber here you know that PS Audio is a high end company that favors the maximum disaggregation of the component chain. And if you aren’t a subscriber, you might bother to find that out before you comment. But regardless if you are not in favor of the approach or the value proposition, why are you watching these videos? I’m no PS Audio apologist… I find the FR 30s flat out ugly, I have serious doubts about the merits of power conditioners and regenerators, and I strongly dislike when Paul injects his politics into the channel, but none of this stops me from enjoying the channel and learning from it.

      All amplifiers are fundamentally built the same, and while hand building, using premium components does increase the cost, it doesn't increase the cost proportionately to the asking price.
      In plain language it doesn't cost $15,000 to build an amplifier, even of the best quality and there are amplifiers that cost significantly less that will match the specifications of overpriced "audiophile" amplifiers

    • @edd2771
      @edd2771 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JonAnderhub No, it doesn’t cost $15k to build the amplifier. By Paul’s own admission it costs less and he adds a multiplier. I completely agree that amps costing half to one- third as much may sound indiscernibly different in blind listening. However, if there is an audience for PS amps as constructed and at that price, they will sell them. People obviously see value in them. You can buy a $50 Seiko quartz watch that keeps better time than a $30k Rolex. That does not change the fact that there is a huge audience for the Rolex. And make no mistake, while a Rolex has some precious metals in it, the technology of a mechanical watch movement has not changed materially in 70 years, so the mark up is very high there too. You may think paying for a Rolex is insanity, and you may not be wrong, but that’s besides the point. Why would PS, or any other company, deny customers a product they are obviously demanding, albeit in limited quantities? Would you subscribe to a Rolex TH-cam channel or watch their videos regularly and constantly complain that they are no better timekeepers than a quartz watch? Well i suppose one might, but it would still be silly to do so, which was my original contention in this post.

    In a properly designed amplifier there is no need to compromise with having dual monoblocks. Good circuit design and layout will keep the crosstalk far below levels that would be audible, and the only real conceivable reason would be possibly if you need 1kW+ of power output per channel. But for the vast majority of applications its a waste of resources and money with no tangible gains except for extra profit from being able to sell two of something instead of just one to a customer. The biggest source of crosstalk/distortion in most linears is likely to be the rectified audio that is imposed on the power rails since they are unregulated, and the PSRR degrades with frequency. If you want all the benefits of a monoblock in a stereo configuration but with better distortion characteristics, then go to a well-regulated switching supply that will also push all the noise into the ultrasonic region where it is much easier to deal with.

      It’s not so much about the aspects you describe as much as it is about headroom and the amplifier having linearity with this kind of headroom. If you have ever heard this then I digress. Wattages in these incriminates make no real perceptible difference in their respective correlation to output in terms quantity which a lot of people get off on. That’s not how an amplifier works it delivers only what a loudspeaker requires and the rest goes into superb sound reproduction!
      I would digress into saying you could have 1 watt or even 50 or 600 watts of pure crap based on poor circuit execution. But these are definitely not in that category.

    • @hugobloemers4425
      @hugobloemers4425 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Channel-cm7yc The comment is not about headroom. It is about the merits of two power supplies versus one power supply, whereby possibly both configurations deliver the same total power at the same output voltage. The statement is that one regulated power supply can mitigate the cross talk issues that occur with one unregulated power supply. And thus, one regulated power supply is as good or even better than two unregulated power supplies. Within these design choices, you can then independently opt for any head-room you desire, much the same as that you can opt for different colors of the enclosure. But that is just off-topic.

      How can you make that statement when you have no idea what their total business model may be? Their monoblock amplifiers could be "halo" products used as much for image and marketing as for revenue generation.

    I would steer clear of their tech. I purchased a stellar DAC from them and the optical input has never worked properly. I sent it to them for repair and was basically advised that’s just how it is. It’s either cheap parts or poor software, either way unacceptable at this price point.

    There's no scientific test data to back up the misleading idea that “special” or “audiophile” speaker wires or expensive cable make a noticeable difference versus affordable, good-quality speaker wires of the correct gauge. 99.9% of the time it's unsubstantiated claims and the difference really does not matter!
    Nothing you do to speaker wire with twists or wraps or reverse osmosis is going to make it transmit sound different or better.
