Boy! I remember those currents when we went 'dong de islands' in the summer! The water gets channeled through the islands and flows like a river! Back in the '60s, it was easy to spot because people would through their garbage into the sea to have it all carried away! The current was called remoux or something like that. I don't know the spelling and this is my best guess. It was insanely fast and lots of people would get taken out to sea, never to be seen again. It was truly frightening to see!
This is really good stuff! However, I don't know if I somehow missed it, but while reference was made to one North Equatorial Current as well, the main or only focus regarding the 2 mentioned Equatorial Current, involved only the South Equatorial Current. Unless you respond, and unless I find out otherwise, later, D.V., I am taking it that with regards to the Island of Trinidad, the influence of the SEC far overrides the NEC. Thanks for Posting!
Thanks for your comment. My theory: There are some seasonal changes going on. The same way the inter tropical convergence zone moves south with the Sun in the northern winter, allowing the north east tradewinds to be more northerly, PERHAPS similarly the NEC has some effect. The rest of the year, when the ITCZ is closer or north of TT, the tradewinds are more ENE so PERHAPS the NEC effect is diminished.
@@SSNauticalTraining Thanks for your response. Your video I am certain, would be of tremendous value to Mariner folk. I am a bit disappointed that something as interesting as this did not get the attention of more viewers, or comments since I believe it should be of interest to all who live here in Trinidad. I will try to send it, D.V. to a few people. They are missing something if they are not aware of your video.
