This scape is so good, looks so much bigger than it is too! As for fish, I have a dozen Chilli and spotted Rasboras and all they do is hide despite 40 odd other tank inhabitants. Danio Erythromicron however are active all over the tank once they settled in and look amazeballs! I think they would be perfect for this scape.

Just the other day I was surfing the web for designs. I came across many ideas and I saw a forest design that really jumped out at me. Coincidentally now you have this as well. Very very nice! I like the path feature between the trees. Very calm and serene. Hats off to you. All your work and time spent on this will certainly pay off as the scape matures. Living in Southern California we are so fortunate to have the ocean in our back yard with beautiful kelp forests and so many local fish. You have created your own now too. Thanks for sharing all you do. Cheers 🏄🏼‍♂️

This goes to say that a scape is not done in 30 minutes, like we used to see so many times. And get frustrated about the amount of time we work on our own scape. Showing things as they really are, i believe it gives everyone confidence to go and spend more time on improving their aquascape. Your forest scape is very detailed, i can see the hours spent. You have a lot to "read" in there, to discover. Awesome job, Mark, thank you for showing us your journey! Can`t wait to see how it will develop next. :)

Really love this! The pathway through the middle looks amazing and the combination of the lighter green stem plants and the darker mosses and epiphytes looks super, like dappled shadows. Really nice 👍
I’m doing your DSM at the moment, I’m needing to spray water a lot, it’s mostly the top parts which are closest to the light. So I upgraded my light from the standard one that came with the tank to one I can adjust the height of. I raised it up higher and this seems to be working for me.
I’ve also now added some Monte Carlo, not too much, just in a couple of places, and not as a carpet. I am trying it as an epiphyte on a rock and on some of the wood, to see if it works. If not it can be easily removed! im keeping everything really wet in there now. Spraying it down heavily.
I’ve got small patches of white mold on my wood which im hoping, if it appears now it won’t when I flood the tank? I will see.
I really like the idea of mosquito raspboras! I might also pinch that idea off you 😋
Thank you for your work, it’s helping me loads 😁

Ceratopteris/Mayaca/Myriophyllum look a bit out of place in this scape - I'd try Bolbitis heudelotii and Hygrophilla pinnatifida for the background, and/or some soft of hydrocotyle for a different leaf shape instead. Bolbitis difformis would be a very nice addition to the foreground.

  • @williammcdowell6257
    @williammcdowell6257 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Well I thought I was a patent gardener but Mark you are in a different league. Great depth and structure to your mini-jungle forest, but suspect that Ceratopteris will grow too fast and become thick stemmed and big, it proved too much for my 120 cm X 45 cm high tank. Have seen it used to great effect in a single species 90 cm tank, grows well in soft clean water with good light even if CO2 is limited.

However, the norm seems to be planting smaller plants in the front and larger in the back. Why is that?

The reason your logs get the white fungus is because the wood you chose is actually part of the root from a tree. The roots are what hold all the nutrients that feed the tree. When you put logs in your aquarium that are roots, the white fungus grows because it feeds off the nutrients in the root. Eventually it goes away after several weeks when the white fungus eats all the nutrients that are in the root. The way to avoid getting the white fungus is to not use any logs that are actually from the root of the tree and only use logs that are from branches of a tree.

Was wondering how this scape was getting on. Thanks for the update. Always enjoy watching/listening to your vids; nice that you are so passionate and you have a soothing voice (plus you’re easy on the eyes!)
Do you do this for a living too or are you just an exceedingly skilled hobbyist?

What do you use to fill the tank with water?

I read that the plants were sponsored by Denerle, but a really usefull information would be the total cost of the plants in this scape :) Looks pretty good!

      I would say around 50 euros 😊

Maybe you should have boiled the woods before using them. That way you could have prevented all the molding and rotting. Beautiful aquascape nonetheless.
