    I was brought up in a cycle touring family and am so pleased to see people getting on their bikes. Bikepacking is really taking off. However, despite not having tried it, it does seem that all the weight is very high up and fear this would make the bike unbalanced. My only problem with traditional touring is that when I put my four panniers on, I have a bad habit of filling them!! 😄😄

    You may mention how dispersing the weight affects the handling. Such as heavier stuff closer to frame ect. I know you packed that tent first, exactly right, but some thought behind why you did it would be very beneficial to beginners. Ride on!

      Hi, we have a how-to video on our channel for mounting the saddle bag - you'll need to make sure you tighten up all the straps correctly to eliminate sway. Sometimes if you pack you bag with more weight towards the top, that can cause some sway too. Our update of our Saddle Bags last year had us redesign the strap system to reduce sway as much as possible.

    I'm wanting to get into bike packing and have watched a few of these videos now. No one seems to mention how you carry food though. If you're going away for 2 or 3 days and you're away from civilisation, how do people carry enough food for 2 or 3 decent meals a day? There seems to be minimal extra space with this sort of set-up.

      Just like multi day hiking I recommend freeze dried meals, you can get 600 / 800 calorie ones and they dont weigh much and can be shoved anywhere. If you bring a small water purifier then you can go really light and just camp near a water supply (easy in the UK)

    • @SophisticatedDogCat
      @SophisticatedDogCat 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Parkour_People Freeze dried meals suck. Couscous, Knorr rice/ pasta sides, tortillas, butters, etc. are much lighter, pack down smaller and contain far more calories than those overpriced freeze-dried meals. Also cost way less.

    Been looking into bikepacking but one thing just doesn't make sense: why are the packs so damn expensive?!?!

    • @Restrapltd
      @Restrapltd  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Think of them like backpacks for your bike. Bike bags go through a lot more than a normal backpack would. They get hit with more severe weather, they can get covered in mud on off-road rides and road grit during wet and wintery conditions. Not only that, they're mounted to a bike which moves around a lot, which can cause wear and tear.
      We design our bags to be quality kit, and be able to handle all of these, be easy to use, and last. I hope this answers your question!

      Wherever there's space usually! The food pouch on the bar bag is ideal, as is the frame bag and top tube bag.
      For bigger items, it's always a good idea to carry a musette bag with you too - great for carrying the camp beers and bigger bits of food.

    I understand the Bar Bag as well as the Saddle Bag are completely waterproof. But what about the Restrap Frame Bag, Top Tube Bag and Food Pouch? They might feature waterproof zippers and fabrics, but I don’t trust the seams so much, since I believe they’re not taped. In my experience, seams leak with age. What is your experience?

    • @Restrapltd
      @Restrapltd  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, you are correct - because the Frame Bag, Top Tube Bag and Food Pouch are stitched products, they're not 100% waterproof, but because they're made from waterproof materials, water should run off the bag, for the most part. You might see water ingress in severe conditions. We reinforce all internal seams, making the bags more durable so while there may be stretch over time on occasion, it should retain the same level of waterproofing with age.

    • @Restrapltd
      @Restrapltd  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's an individual choice. The main advantage of rackless bags is you don't need a specific bike to go touring, you can use any bike!

    The geometry is a bit silly. Rack on the back and all that would go in it. Better weight distribution as well.

    • @DonnieX6
      @DonnieX6 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You get less strain on your neck and rest of body like that, and the bike is doing the carrying for you ;)
      Also the center of gravity will be lower and you get a less sweaty back too.
      But on short rides and commuting I also wear a light backpack, no problem in that!

      There are always cheaper ways of doing things, whether that is second-hand purchasing, cheaper made products or donations/fund-raising. Unfortunately it costs a lot of money to make the products we do using a local workforce and paying them a fair wage along with the best materials for the job and years of manufacturing expertise. Not forgetting the time it takes to make videos like this one to help teach people what they might want to learn :)
