cant wait for the next AH-64D video ...
AH-64D video but wags still has the Hind on his main menu theme. I think we all know which ones his favorite :D
I will be building my own collective control for this module complete with Oled or LCD.
9:27 I can finally experience the nightmare that Nicolas Cage had.
Now I'm curious, what is this 'nightmare' reference to?
@@silenthunder52 In the "must watch" movie Firebirds, Nicolas Cage's character has an eye dominance problem causing him to unable to fly at night or in night simulation in this case.
@@silenthunder52 Watch orlock20's suggestion, Fire Birds is indeed mandatory viewing for anyone getting into the Apache. But short version: The display is ALWAYS on the right eye, no exceptions for anyone. So if you're left eye dominant, you're going to go through a difficult period getting used to it.
@@jubuttib In the Apache community, we refer to that movie as 'that movie which will not be named." It was that godawful.
@@ald1144 I know, but that's what makes it the BEST. =)
Why is the horizon line not on the horizon...?
It is references to the LOS reticle.
The HDU is attached to your head, not to your aircraft like the HUD in a jet, the Horizon is relative to your Line of Sight Cue in the center of your HDU to show your nose attitude, regardless of where your head is pointing. It's something we'll enjoy seeing people wrap their head around and get used to.
Holy Shit! So much detail in this. Learning curve time!
... Also serves to alert the crew the precise location and future scene of crash if no inputs are made.... 3:40. Fricken hilarious!!!!
Is the Apache fly-by-wire, or physical linkages?
Its physical linkages augmented by the SCAS system and there's an emergency fly-by-wire system called BUCS that can be activated by either pilot via a trigger on the collective grip in case of a severing or jamming of the linkage
@@RJ-rg2iz good answer, thanks.
Strange. Something is wrong with the projected horizon line. The FPV should be matching with it when in a straight horizontal flight.
It is correct and in reference to the reticle.
I'm a little bit confused here Matt. There is some difference between "horizon line" and "attitude indicator" (refer pages 4-13 and 4-14 of the AH64D flight manual). I'm wondering what's the point of having a FPV displayed with no projected horizon reference to show whether you are going up or down (besides the outside cockpit real horizon). What if I'm in IMC conditions, like inside clouds?
In your video, the aircraft is still flying down even with the LOS reticle above the horizon line or attitude indicator.

Game changer for the helo community in the DCS world.
Will AH-64D include M-TADS?
Ka-50 III... i need to know about this!!
How will this be rendered in VR?...
Just like the JHMCS in the jets I’d imagine.
Now you have successfull finished your tutorial. Let‘s star with your first hot mission….
So what is the horizon line referenced to? It is obviously not the horizon.
Referenced to the aircraft LOS.

@@RJ-rg2iz I was thinking more along the lines of JHMCS which also has a horizon line aligned to the world horizon and not the craft.
But how about "the box"? Special settings?
Amazing work.
Fun fact some Apache pilots that use this can read two different books at the same time, this is because the display forces them to learn to use their eyes independently
Na, it's 4. And when you have the goggles flip down in front of the hdu it allows you to read one in night vision one in thermal and two regular.
That is a fun fact. Unfortunately it is not true, despite a book saying as much.
@@Raptor_9 Is it possible that some pilots can do it while some cannot?
