I attended San Francisco Ballet's adult intensive in 2018, the NYCB adult workshop in 2019, and the Joffrey Ballet (Chicago) adult intensive in 2022. Each program was unique in its own way and a fabulous experience. Happy to share any insights, feel free to message me!
Hello! I've been taking adult ballet classes off and on the last 3-4 years, and the last year I really stuck with it and started Pointe 1 last Fall. I'd love to do a summer intensive this summer, Im not sure if I'd be considered intermediate? Maybe with some Pointe classes also. I'm 28 years old, and didn't dance ever in my life before I started adult ballet classes a couple years ago. What would you recommend?
Hi Jana, I really appreciate that you took so much time to condense this and then put a breakdown on the blog. I know what it's like to keep re-recording and find things just keep getting long!
Choose the one that focus on classic variations and Pas de duex will be a plus. 95% companies and schools treat adult ballet classes as fitness classes.
I'm going to the NYCB Essentials Workshop in June. I've never done anything like this before, so I'm super excited. I thought it might be a good one to try before braving the Art Emotion next year.
Hey Jana, you're a beautiful woman and I wish you all the luck in your pursuits! Your Xmas video was really wonderful in getting me in the spirit, not to mention you are a gorgeous woman. Keep the vids coming!
I have another suggestion hopefully in future video if maybe a Giselle act 2 where the Willis pop out if we can dance another workout inspired by them? I definitely am hoping to be in IABF in the future (despite my personal feelings about FL) . But i love the idea of getting a chance to improve and be on stage.
I just restarted taking ballet classes after stopping in my teens! But so grateful that my local company does an adult intensive. I am hoping it will be a good stepping stone for me as I will know some of the teachers and staff already and I wont have to front the travel expenses. Its Orlando Ballet btw - sounds very similar to the way you describe the Houston ballet one. So im very excited! But hoping to travel more and try new ones once I feel a bit more advanced in the coming years. Thanks for the tips!
I’m not sure if they’re still offering it, but the adult intensive at Ballet Academy of Charleston has been my favorite. I learned more variations and contemporary choreography there than other intensives I’ve been to. (Plus ballet, pointe, jazz, PBT and yoga.) It was also small, so I got a lot of personalized training. 👍🏻
Have you ever been to Kathryn Morgan's adult ballet intensive? I wonder how the two compare. I would love to go to Charleston but I wonder if the instruction is as good as KM's intensive.
I loved Artemotion last year. I really would prefer to take just the morning class, but they’ve gotten so big that’s not an option this year. 😢 I’d prefer a conditioning/Pilates over a pointe/variation, but that’s just me. The New York one sounds fun!
I would really love to do an adult ballet intensive at some point in the future, maybe this summer, so your video was super helpful! I live in New York, so it would be amazing if I could do the NY City Ballet intensive! Might be a bit out of my league tho!
I attended NYCB's adult workshop in 2019. It's definitely geared towards beginner/advanced beginner. They've added a second session later in the summer, it's gotten so popular. I hope you attend!
The Kathryn Morgan & Friends Adult Summer Intensive is AMAZING. One of the best parts of my year in 2022 🥰
I saw her dance nutcracker this year my life is complete. She is a gorgeous princess. ❤

Completely agree! I want a classical ballet intensive! If I wanted a series of Pilates and yoga classes, I would just go to the gym!

Excited for you!!

Do you know of any colleges that offer ballet specifically as a minor?

I will look it up and add to the website list if they’re still doing it! So glad you got that experience :)
@@BallerinasByNight I reached out to them and they are doing one in July 2024!!

So glad it was helpful! And I believe the NYCB one caters to beginners, as most accommodate to, I believe!
