One of the all-time classic sci-fi films comes to Blu-ray!
"A landmark science-fiction film! An intelligent interplanetary epic filled with beautifully crafted designs and marvelous special effects!" - TV Guide
Prepare to blast off from planet Earth with one of the most popular classic sci-fi films of all time! When atomic scientist Dr. Meacham (Rex Reason, The Creature Walks Among Us) is chosen to take part in a top-secret research experiment in a remote lab, he quickly discovers that he is really involved in an evil scheme by alien Metalunans to take over Earth. After he and the gorgeous Dr. Adams (Faith Domergue, It Came From Beneath The Sea) make their escape shortly before the lab explodes, they are whisked away in a flying saucer to Metaluna, where they are blamed for the destruction. Will interstellar negotiation save the day or will the scientists be forced to take part in a treacherous battle to the death?

I first saw this classic science fiction movie in the summer of 1955 when it was first released as a boy of 8, and have loved it ever since. The original 1952 novel by famous science fiction writer Raymond F. Jones is very interesting reading also. I have done a lot of research on this film with the recognized expert on it, Robert Skotak, and knew two of its stars, Jeff Morrow and Rex Reason, personally.
The three-strip Technicolor process used in this film is remarkably beautiful. A completely original story and movie from start to finish. I am willing to overlook its flaws for the sake of its amazing artistic beauty and special visual effects. It should have been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.

I agree that the special effects should have gotten a Academy award nomination, arguably the best visual effects for the decade of the golden age of science fiction, the 1950s.

I think the tripod craft in "War of the Worlds" was the best special effect of the fifties, but as a movie, "This Island Earth", was by far my most most favorite scifi movie growing up and I thought it was the best. I looked forward every year to seeing the Wizard of Oz and This Island Earth more than any others!

I too saw it then with my parents at the local drive in when I was about 12. Niether one of my folks were sci/fy fans, especially my dad....would like to query them about it today. Even though I have somewhat remembered the plot.....the triangular disembobler is what I remember the most. BHE

These old movie trailers crack me up! It's always: "The most incredible, the most amazing, the most fantastic, the most scintillating film ever brought to the screen! Your life will be worse off in every way unless you see this film!!!" I just saw this movie and while I enjoyed it, it's certainly not the "most startling, the most imaginative and suspenseful science fiction film ever brought to the screen!!!"

Different times my friend. No Rotten Tomatoes, mass communication still in its infancy. You had to hype up your movie to the moon in order to get it to sell.
Especially the Sci-Fi and Horror genres of the time. You had to basically be a carnival barker to get the butts in seats needed to turn a profit.

There was a sequel proposed in 1956, for 1957 release, but the studio boss, Edward Muhl, decided against it because he didn't like science fiction.

I really enjoyed seeing this movie on late night television when I was a kid. It is an underappreciated film. But to be fair, the cast was made up of performers that were not well known! I guess that is one way to keep the film's costs down!

I've got all six books and tapes of the adaptations from this film by Bonnerville Productions (1978) Ive had them years and maybe the only person who owns all six tapes and books in working used cond, as much as I love them, its time to sell for someone else to appreciate such qualities.

Of course by today's standards, it's lame, especially the trailer, but I remember seeing it when it was released I guess back in 1955. I remember the space monsters having a sticky head! That's all I remember about it but do recall it as being pretty entertaining to a 7 year old.

Well, I know what you mean, that it's from a very different era when things were done very differently in films, but I wouldn't say it's "lame" - It's just that it's apples and oranges, comparing something from 65 years ago to now. Watch it again sometime, you'll find it can still be pretty entertaining to people of all ages, not just 7-year-olds.

Fabulous, the 1950s was such a classic time for monster movies and they had such a good story and heart, I'm in my 30s now but I feel that the Golden Age of film was easily in the past, many of today's movies are so boring and generic, despite the great special effects. They may look good and might want to make audiences go to the pictures but many are essentially the same film by any other name. Again generic. This Island Earth and the Man from Planet X were two of the very early films to show the aliens as not evil or bad but either peaceful but misunderstood or in some sort of crisis and needing help as in This Island Earth.
