    I have a Blue Russian (Spooky) and he's such a good boy! He catches mice, & he taps my leg with his paw to get my attention! Spooky is just about 7 years old and I dread the idea that I will eventually lose him. He knows so many words, "Treat" & Tuna" are two of his favorites. I'm careful what I feed him, and he does get fussy sometimes. But that's ok. He's very quiet, I've never had such a quiet cat! He only meows if he thinks he is alone at night, hanging around the bathroom, so I hear him and say, "Spooky, you KNOW I'm here, you're Not alone & I love you!"
    I often worry about him getting that condition where crystals accumulate in the urinary tract, I've lost two beautiful cats to that. Apparently, it's the amount of "Ash" in cat food, so I NEVER feed him the cheap stuff! Animals show us the purity & LOVE of God....

    Hey I'm very allergic to cats. So I got a Russian Blue cat 6 months ago. At first I was having moderate allergies like running nose, itchy eyes, and congestion. But as time went on, my allergies decreased. Now I only get congestion if I'm near her for long periods of time. She doesn't go in my room, and I keep air circulation in the house. My blue russian is exactly the same. She's independent, calm, and loving.

I have a younger sister who keeps her in her room most of the time. And because of that, I make sure my sister doesn't go on my bed, and needs to wash her hands because of the fur. Low maintenance she does not require so much attention not much shedding and she does fine when she is alone 1/2 of day while you are at work. Wanted to ask about going out with a "home" cat. I live in a quiet place and I think she would enjoy the outside + she is of course castrated but I'm affraid about the outside things for her like ilnesses if she can catch any? Or fleas, ticks etc.? First of all I'm affraid of the cat so she wont "catch" anything and secondly you dont want to have fleas or ticks at your home that is for sure.

    • @LenaMatildaCats
      @LenaMatildaCats  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Overlord For sure taking them out you’re increasing the risk of them catching fleas and ticks. I think the major risk for cat illness is when they come into contact with other cats that are infected. We used to take Lena to our backyard, which was fenced, so that was pretty safe. I do think though that when she was going out her behavior changed and she wasn’t as calm as a cat. Like she would be in front of the door at 3 am shouting to get out or would be jumping and running like crazy around the house, like she was stressed inside and wanted to be out. I’m not going to say I recommend taking them out because of those reasons.

    On the 6 th August 2018, I had to put to sleep my little Russian blue Elsa, at the age of 9. She had a cancer! It took me a year to get over it! I felt sooooo bad and depressed! On the 20th of August 2019, a new little Russian girl was born just for me! She arrived home on the 20th november 2019. I called her Priska! I am now living a new love story with her! I also have a female bengal cat called Ciryane. She loves kittens! Thanks to this race of cats that give you so much love! I miss Elsa, but Priska helps me to live a new love story. It is also the case for my bengal cat Ciryane! It is so difficult to get over such a loss! I am a man and I can just cry over and over for the loss of my Elsa! Now Priska is giving us (Ciryane and I) a reason to continue loving and hoping!

    Thanks for the video! I have a male Russian Blue named Bub, adopted from the ASPCA about 5 years ago, and he is around 6 years old. He looks very similar to Lena, but his size is a bit larger and he weighs almost 14lbs. He’s motivated by food and very motivated by play. Additionally, he’s a little more chatty than most but his voice is very high pitched and low volume and it always surprises people who meet him because it doesn’t seem to make sense with his size. In the past we had lived in another apartment with a roommate who had 2 other cats of different breads for about a year and Bub was the largest in stature as well as the most dominant. He had really only gotten along with one of the cats and when he played he was always more aggressive. We have since moved to our own single cat apartment around 3 years ago and I’ve recently been thinking about getting a possible companion for him. I’m perfectly okay with it just being the two of us, of course, but I’d love to know what your experience was at the beginning having a Burmese and a Russian Blue? Are they well suited companion cats? Are they better at his age in a single cat household? Thank you for your input!

    • @LenaMatildaCats
      @LenaMatildaCats  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, so my cats are both fine, but I got them as kittens. I've had one or two people comment in my videos that the Burmese can be a bit domineering and it's better paired with a Burmese. I personally think my cats are quite happy together. I remember when we got Matilda (she came after Lena), she was trying so hard to make friends with Lena, she really wanted to bond and wouldn't give up. But again, Lena was still a few months old only and she's so mellow, she accepted Matilda in a matter of 1-2 weeks.

    • @alycaldwell8796
      @alycaldwell8796 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lena & Matilda
      I’ve heard that about Burmese as well, but your cats look like they get along great! Bub is a little bit more of a velcro cat and I’m definitely his person, but really he chose me! Part of the reason I adopted him is because he grabbed my shoulder as I was walking through the center looking at different cats. I had missed him at first because he was in the top row of cages and way above my eye level because I’m very short. He was such a handsome cat and when I asked to see him, they opened his cage and put him in my arms where he immediately started purring and snuggling, not letting me put him down. His personality is very much the same and is always wanting to be held and snuggled for long periods of time, which I believe is part of the reason why he’s more of a velcro cat. But, I worry this may also make him jealous if my attention was spent on anything else and this causes some of my hesitation in finding him a cat companion. If you have any references or community friends that may have had experience with introduction of a new cat to mid-aged Russian Blue I’d love to ask about their experience. Thanks so much for your insight and response!

    I like the still shot that appears on this video before it is clicked on. It is always a treat to catch a glimpse of a cat wetting its nose with their tongue. As far as choosing a breed, any cat that trusts human's enough to sleep o their chest is a pretty good bet. I had a Platinum Burmese that would sleep on my chest for hours. Almost nose to nose. Some cats discover that the carbon dioxide we exhale helps them rest. A vet once suggested this possibility. Last night my cat was inpatient for me to get to bed so she could curl up near my feet for warmth. She is actually helping me keep my feet warm. We roll that way........

Lena seems to be well adjusted due to your care and attention. Not just due to her genetic breeding. My Burmese reacts badly to change of environment. Her eyes water and she paces around and can't relax. It takes many hours of love and attention to calm them so they can feel at home.

They eat around 2 small cans of fancy feast a day each (morning and evening) and we let them free feed on the dry, although that’s definitely not recommended, but they got used to that as kittens and don’t over eat it. Her weak spot is the treats! She would eat non stop... she gets a few of them 2 times a day 😋

    Lucky you with Lena.❤️❤️❤️

    All RB’s are different. Mine is low maintainence but she’s very picky about being picked up. She hates it, will get stiff and will get down right away. I visited her litter at the breeder and her mom was incredible bitchy, wouldn’t let u touch her. Most of the kittens in the litter were super friendly including mine but one was very to herself. So within each litter, there are different personalities too. Mine’s not that food motivated either. She eats but stays lean and trim.

      My kitty doesn't like to be picked up for long. He greets me every morning (I don't sleep with him, my room is a cat free zone) waiting for me on-top of the back of a chair and meowing good morning. I pick Him up and give him some love and he does a halarious long back bend reaching his paws behind him like he was going to do a complete (bridge) and stays like that for a while as I walk around with him. When I bring him back to my chest he lets me cuddle for a few more seconds then wants down. Lol. I pick him up several times a day for a minute or so..I wish he would let me hold him more. But in the evening he lets me pet and cuddle him on the couch and then he will nap on my lap. I love that! 💕

    How do you suppose one of these types of cats would do in a smaller living space? A smaller apartment with one room for example. And being alone during work hours? What would be some tip or trick to have for them to pass the day, too?

    • @LenaMatildaCats
      @LenaMatildaCats  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We live in a 1 br and cats are fine. I don’t think a Burmese would be a good ideia at all, but a mellow Russian Blue would probably be ok. Cats sleep most of the day anyways, they are crepuscular and most active in those hours when you’re home

    Thank you for your video. I'm in the process of wanting to adopt a male Russian blue. I've never had one. I've had many cats all my life. Currently I have one small dog and one black short haired domestic cat. My cat is both indoor and out. I would prefer her to be mostly indoor. Is the Russian blue cat good at being an indoor cat?

    • @LenaMatildaCats
      @LenaMatildaCats  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lena is a great indoors cat. The thing is though, it's probably better you don't let the cat experience the outdoors, because if they do, they'll do everything to get out and it might become a nuisance. I used to walk Lena on a leash and she would meow at 3am because she wanted to go out. Then we had to move and I had to stop and her behavior improved a lot. So yes, great indoors cat, much more relaxed if indoors only in my personal opinion.

      You can never be sure before you have the cat. There are many ways to dissuade them from scratching household items, like placing double tape and giving them plenty of scratch posts. Lena doesn't scratch furniture, but she did scratch our bed at some point.

    • @LenaMatildaCats

      Hello and welcome to the channel! Here is what I found on the aspca website: “Is it true that Russian Blues are hypoallergenic ? Yes and no. It is true that Russian Blue cats have lower levels of Fel d 1, the protein in cat saliva and skin secretions responsible for your itching and wheezing. However, even small amounts of Fel d 1 can cause allergic reactions. Russian Blues also produce dander, which irritates allergies.” So I’d say best way is to have some exposure to one and see how you react

      @@LenaMatildaCats Thank you so much! I know about the decreased Fel d1 but I was wondering about actual first hand experience because there really isn't any truly hypoallergenic cat. You're lucky you don't have to worry about allergies :) . Great channel!

    There isn't such a thing as a hypoallergenic cat, all cats produce a protein in their saliva to which a lot of humans are allergic to. when cats groom themselves this protein get in their coats, as the saliva in their coat dries up, it becomes airborne thus producing the allergic reactions as people breathe. the reason why Siberian forest cats, and Russian Blues are more favored among people with allergies, is that they produce a lot less of the fore-mentioned protein in the saliva. so the allergic reaction is less severe.
    No need to get rid of your cats if you are allergic tho, you can simply mitigate your allergic reaction by taking 10 milligrams of loratadine daily, a nasal spray, good constant vacuuming and a good filter on your air conditioner, also it is recomended to wash your hands after handling or playin with your cat that way you keep those allergens away from your eyes and nose. it may sound like a lot of work? sure! but isn't all that joy you get from your little Minino worth it?

    • @LenaMatildaCats
      @LenaMatildaCats  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Edigson Patino totally worth it!

    • @jollyrancherchick
      @jollyrancherchick 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hypoallergenic cats are definitely a thing. I had to return a kitten I'd adopted after a week because of allergies (watering eyes, running nose and throat swelling). If not for my Russian Blue, I wouldn't be able to have a cat at all.
      Also, the definition of hypoallergenic is: "designed to reduce or minimize the possibility of an allergic response, as by containing relatively few or no potentially irritating substances." That's exactly what cats like Russian Blues, Bengals, Siberians and the Balinese are for people who can't handle being around a regular/mixed breed cat.
