    With my bad knees and my bad back, my current e-tron 55 S Line has served me excellently over the past 2.5 years now. It's very comfortable and very quiet at speed. I need a car that I can just slide into, without having to bend right down to the ground or folding myself in half just to get through the door. The car also needs to be comfortable enough for my bad back in order for me to cover the 196 mile a day round trip that I drive 4 days a week for business. As such, sports cars, hatchbacks, and most sedans are out of the question. They are all just too low to the ground and too small for my 187cm frame. My Audi e-tron is coming up to the end of its lease in a few months. I've been searching for a replacement for a few months now. I've been considering switching to the new, updated Q8 e-tron since there was nothing else suitable that I could find to replace the e-tron, at least here in the UK. But over time, and also through watching videos like this one, the EQS SUV has now popped onto my radar as well. This is a sublime vehicle. So luxurious. And not that bad looking either. And eye-wateringly expensive. Yes, it is way much more expensive than even the most option-loaded Q8 e-tron that you can ever get, but I think the extra cost of the EQS SUV is very much worth it. It is a super luxury executive SUV. I'll choose the beige interior though, if I finally make up my mind to choose the EQS SUV. I'm not a fan of dark interiors. Great video. Thanks.

      @@jimirosa The inefficiency issue has been slightly fixed in the updated Q8 e-tron now. The 55 for example will now do 330 miles (WLTP) compared to the previous 55 that could only manage 235 miles. Not Tesla perfect, but much much better than before.

    I got a EQS 580 sedan as a loaner from my dealership and absolutely love it. Would buy Mercedes quality and supreme interiors over Tesla any day. Smooth ride, fantastic torque, and fast. The massive screens, lighting, and massage are amazing. Downsides are these are incredibly heavy and don’t stop or corner all that well

    It looks an amazing car, it should be for over a million kroner (it actually appears to be cheaper in the UK which is a surprise). The great thing is how the EV technology is accelerating away from what ICE cars can do
    “Top shelf materials” in the UK refers to dirty magazines - the newsagent put them out of sight on the top shelf 😉 We would say “top drawer materials” to imply premium quality

    It's actually not that hard to get the hood open.
    And the Burmester-System is just AWESOME, just do the settings right.

    • @jimirosa
      @jimirosa  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You're right. Opening the bonnet is not a huge challenge. However, it requires more than just pulling a handle and Mercedes expresses that it is not for the ordinary user to be interested in what is out there. As for the sound system, I'm unfortunately not that impressed. I come from a Tesla with a clearly superior sound system which is also standard. More linear, more transparent and far more punch

      @@jimirosa I have been driving my EQS 450+ Sedan now for 1 year and 10 months or just right now over 165500 km here in Sweden. I found the handle to open the hood easy.
      I have driven many cars with Bowers & Willkins, B&O and Burmester, teslas soundsystem vs those are nothing imo. Now I don't know which version you hade in this EQS 580 SUV you tested. There are 2 versions. I have in my 450+ th Burmester 3D Surround. I listen to every kind of music from Bach to very demanding Dark Goa Psycedelic Trance. And it perform amazing! As I said it's all in the settings in th Customize-options.

    Great video. Thx for doing this. As an EV blogger. Do you have any literature on charging till 80% and not 100%. What’s the rationale and science behind it. Thanks for Canada.

    • @jimirosa
      @jimirosa  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there.
      I’m not an engineer, But for What I know: The architecture of the batteries would ideally be around 50%. That is why you also experience that most LIO batteries charge more slowly at higher SoC.
      The batteries become "stressed" by standing for a long time with a high SoC. Therefore, you also experience getting a new Tesla delivered with around 30% SoC at the dealer.
      Heat and high SoC are a bad combination and therefore most manufacturers of cars with batteries containing cobalt, recommend charging to a maximum of 80 or 90%. Thanks for watching 😊

    You should compare the Maybach EQS 680 not the 580 to the Maybach GLS. First reviewer I have seen that says Burmester is mediocre.

    I think the exterior is okay, but it’s definitely not beautiful. The interior is lovely, but I think I’d be missing the knobs and switches I have in my car. I think doing most things from the screen gives a sleek look but I’m not sure it isn’t form over function. I’ll be interested to see if Mercedes keeps the hyper screen or eventually goes back to having more tactile controls. It’s hard to say what things you will forget about and what you will miss, but I think the volume knob still works better than any other volume control. Luckily I can’t afford the car so I don’t really have to worry about what Mercedes does. Your review was great, very professional and good use of music for drama. 😊

    Battery warranty: good luck proving that you have

    • @jimirosa
      @jimirosa  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Far fewer electric cars than predicted have had problems with the battery. In fact, in Denmark we now see electric taxis that have driven more than 600,000 kilometers on the same battery pack. The few cars that have been challenged have had the batteries replaced under warranty, if they were still covered. Aviloo is a good method to test batterypacks

    • @Fluterra

      @@jimirosa ok great, thanks. Having just signed a 4 year EQS lease, it would be good to know if it makes sense to keep it after the lease ends.

    • @Fluterra
      @Fluterra หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@jimirosa I just read the Mercedes battery warranty. It’s unfortunately not nearly as rosy as you wrote above. First of all, any decision to replace or repair is strictly up to MB. They even select how to measure the capacity/performance of the used battery. Then there is a Long list of exclusions that could render the warranty null, such as driving over curbs, any type of accident or even the car being hit by anything. It’s clearly solely up to MB. I wouldn’t count on anything being done.
      600k km must be a very small group. Just like with a gas car, you can keep a car on the road indefinitely if you’re will to take care of it and spend the money.
