In this video, I make some progress at the off-grid cabin on the bathroom. I also go ice fishing with my family and caught some delicious dinner!

Great to see your father teaching you so many important skills to get by in life. A lot of people aren't lucky enough to have that. Years from now these will be great memories.
It is cool your dad helps out and shows you techniques and spends “grown up” time with you. Cherish these times. I wish I had more grown up time with my dad and mom. I wish I knew more about their childhoods and their parents growing up from their perspectives.
Your very blessed to have a dad to share his knowledge with you. My dad was the same and it make for a person who can do everything with confidence.

Enjoy these times with your dad, I remember every single time my father took me fishing. I am your dad‘s age now and my father is 85 he doesn’t remember most of those days he remembers a lot of things from his childhood but not much that is recent. So treasure every one of them because they will be with you when you do the same with your children one day and make their memories for them. Your cabin is coming along beautifully you are doing an incredible job!

The old cabin was sold. There was a video on that just around when he was working on the workshop I believe.
Thanks for the reply but I don't remember that one the last I heard was that it was unsafe for his daughter's to go there I will take a look back on his channels to see if I missed it. It's a great shame that that guy would spoil it for Sean and his family and us for that matter the poor man having to start from the beginning after all that work tell ya what he is a better man than me I would be in jail. @@martflynn5021 Sean did do a video on the final day at the cabin and the sale of it. I am not sure if you have watched the new build but it really shows what he learned from the first. Quite like both his and Emily's build similar idea of independance but different takes.

Watching these videos (and your dad's as well) make me so nostalgic for spending time with my grandfather at the cottage in Muskoka and helping him with little projects. While he was an engineer by trade he couldn't hammer a nail straight into a piece of wood lol. I'm really very envious that you have your own space that you can do what you like with. I even chose to go to college in Barrie out of all places to stay closer to the place that gave me so many great memories.
Now I'm stuck in a city I hate and I get to live vicariously through you (and again, your dad). Thank you for all the content!

Wonderful family fishing outing. Oh how I miss those days so very much all due to the unfortunate fact that I have to spend much of my time in a wheelchair. I do get some satisfaction and enjoyment living vicariously through others by watching there outdoor vlogs. Thank you Ms Emily and family for taking me/us along. It is so nice to see you and you fam enjoying each others company while having a fun day on the hard water. Great job on your perch catch, clean and cook.

I could almost smell the fish cooking. My father always caught perch on Lake Erie in Ohio so L grew up eating a lot of perch. Beautiful home you're building to live off grid w/your parents nearby. One day it may become a safe haven as our world gets crazier by the day. Best of luck on your continued journey.

Just got thru watching your dad's channel. See your making awesome progress on your homestead with Shawn's help the memories will live forever SEE your one not afraid to do anything THE more beautiful chip off your dad's shoulders.. Here in Michigan those are considered throw backs for perch usually just before dawn and just before nite fall the bigger perch appear. God bless be safe stay warm and healthy. Jim

The best memories are those spent with family.
Solar, and a small wind turbine, take how many sun days you have per year, and wind days over 14 KPH, then calculate the percentage. Biggest mistake when setting up renewable energy is not adding the wind factor. Must have both.
I loved the scenes of the fox sleeping up on the branch and the birds landing on ur hand and taking a sunflower seed. Was magical. Imma try that here lol.
Not a fox it was a Pine Marten. Protected animal. Like a big weasel. They eat squirrels and birds. Beautiful animals.

Perch is a wonderful fish dinner. We used to bring stringers home and put them on the grill wrapped in butter and garlic and fried potatoes, oh man oh man. My mouth is watering just watching this lol.

Emily, it's nice that you can continue to make memories with your dad. Mine passed away 5 years ago, so I value those memories now. My dad, like yours, taught me to be self sufficient, and also to be thrifty. I'm not ashamed to buy things used. I recently purchased a 20 year old car with ab 40,000 km on it. On average it was driven about 2000 km per year. It's the closest in mileage to a new car I'll probably ever get.
