Ay taga Bacolod ka gali?? My hometown too. Kanami gid. I"m so happy you brough Rob there to see how beautiful Bacolod is. I am due to come home because it's been years since I came home. Can't wait. Happy to see that you're having a great time still in the Philippines Rob. Cheers to you.
Try also the Bacolod Central Market. Although I haven't been back there in 2 decades I think it's still the go-to market for the Bacolod chorizos, the recado and the hamonado. I'm drooling as I write this. Namit gid!
I think the the coconut tree flesh you were looking at in English would be called "heart of palm". It is the tender flesh inside the trunk of a palm tree like a coconut palm tree. I grew up in South Florida in a small town and it was something you might have on a special occasions. If it is the same it is very delicious and worth trying. All bananas are technically berries and are clones of it parent by cuttings. Those bananas are likely a treat an American has never had as almost all of ours sold in the US (besides banana adjacent plantain) are the Cavendish varietal.
Damn. Those palengke have fresh organic stuff and meat with no added crap in it. Straight from the natural resources. Nothing like this in the US. Even the Organic labeled stuff I don’t trust and it’s more expensive.
That what I miss in the Philippines the fresh and cheap food in the market.
So understandable!!
