This is a Video for the Just-Ice Song: Going Way Back (Full Song) Featuring: KRS ONE (SUBSCRIBE) Boogie Down Productions = Real Hip Hop R.I.P. Scott La Rock
THIS WAS MY JOINT IN 1987. JUST -ICE WAS ON FIRE. WHEN I FIRST HEARD THE SONG "LATOYA" BY HIM, I BECAME A FAN. THAT JUSTICISM ALBUM WAS SUPER DOPE. LONG LIVE HIP HOP
One of my all time favorites. I was only 13 when this came out. A five minute lesson on the history of the HIP-HOP culture. Where it began and a shout out to all the DJs and emcees who helped lay down the foundation starting in the mid to late 1970s
At 2:30 That's Melquan, he was actually the manager of RZA and GZA before they formed Wu Tang clan, when they were on Tommy Boy records and Cold Chillin respectively and I know that because I used to hangout with Melquan back then. I'm happy that I witnessed hip hop history in the making since I used to see Rza and Gza in the studio sometimes during that era,I think that's dope A.F.to be able to say I was there basically in the formative years of The Wu Tang Clan.
I remember Memorex cassette tapes were big back then. You had a choice 60 minutes or 90 minutes. I had this on one of those tapes. Hell I had every kind of tape Sony, Fuji. TDK. Maxell you name it. When the tapes popped like Biggie said I would repair mine. Lol
@@sirjer73 haha.. man I had songs that I didn't even know who was rapping till this day. Wish I still had some of those tapes and songs in particular. Some tapes were so cheap you could push your finger through the window because it wasn't the hard plastic.
not over produced or lead by a lame chorus. just straight poetry and subtle dub style vocals that make this a jam for the ages. in a hundred years when the books on music are written this will be there when they get to hip hop.
Yardie Culture was so heavy in Brooklyn back then before he moved to Castle Hill…..but truth be told nuff yard mon did live inna di BX too!!!! But he was the original…..even had a song…."Yesssss……and you are the hip hop Gangsta!!!" Classic material…..can't forget Mantronix on those beatz…….anotha BEAST!!!!!!!
@@keithreid8273 real talk - nobody ever schooled me on the science of why the Bronx got that nickname... I know Brooklyn was called "Brook-nam" as in Vietnam -- but I don't know how The Bronx got that name..
Wow! The 1st hip hop album i purchased was Kool and Deadly, going way back was the opening track. Classic album, iconic album cover, 30 years later still love it.
Song still rides hard!! I’m confused when he says “The Bronx was first” because when KRS did The Bridge Is Over he said “The Bronx keeps on faking it”.
@@ritchie7890 KRS1 would've never said that. He was from the Bronx. He was dissing Queens. To be specific MC Shan and the Juice Crew. Which later lead to him and Roxanne Shante going back and forth.
Damn, that's a late 1980's song & and the message passing at the beginning of this music video "...22 black men get every ... minutes" is still relevant today.
LA LA LA LA LATOYA!! :-) Video music box repped this video hard back in the day. Big props to Ralph Mcdaniels. Man I miss these kind of rap/hip hop videos. The Bronx scene, the PJ's, normal everyday people, no ass shaking booty twerking nonsense. Just straight up hardcore lyrics.
Still sounds as hard now as it did 37 years ago, jeez. I literally memorised every lyric of every track I banged the kool and deadly album out so much.
This was my jam back in the day growing up in the Bronx. Used to listen/rap to it on my walkman before HS football games the year it came out to get amped up. lol
In Jersey this stayed on blast. Dj Red alert goes bizerk yeaaaaaahhhhhhhhh. Lol damn 98.7 had to wait til the weekeds to hear shit like this or watch Video Music Box. I was 8 when this came out

I still have this song "Going Way Back" and the album "Justicizms" (Kool & Deadly) on the original white cassette tape released in 1987 from Fresh/Sleeping Bag Records. CLASSIC HIP HOP from Just Ice!!!
I remember back when I was a kid . My aunt used to live with us and she was playing a song from just ice , the original gangster of hip hop, it was very explicit. I didn't understand why she was playing it because she was from Puerto Rico and didn't speak English, but back in those days when Puerto ricans used to clean their house you had to blast some music. Turns out it was my cousins tape. That was one of earliest memories of loving hip hop music . After that ,that tape was mine . I'm glad I found it on you tube because I don't have the tape anymore.
This is real Mic Checkin. Real MC's have Stage Presence, which captivates you in anticipation of the next lyrics. This brother had a lot of Chi, and the Alpha Male Sound has been long removed from the airwaves. Now we have Feminized little boy rappers talking about nonsense, no steez or rhymes. Aquarius age rappers need to harness the energies of Fixed Communication. The off the dome Feeling mode of Pisces is long gone.
We still got some great artists today. You're just referring to commercial rappers. They always existed to some degree. For example going way back you had Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer, which weren't really supported by people who preferred the rawer style of hip hop. So this argument about commercial rap vs hip hop has been raging on for decades.
This isn't just a hip hop song, it's a history lesson.
