I got to drive a PA Cresta one time that belonged to a friend. It was truly magical. The car only had 3 gears, but you could stay in top gear all the time your speed was over 20 mph. You could literally floor the pedal at 20 and it would smoothly take off with no hesitation or juddering, something you could never do in a Zodiac.

Oh my the wonderful memories of my Father's gray coloured Velox with a manual transmission. I thought ( at the time ) it was the most beautiful car I had ever seen. It is still in a special place in my memories, moved aside somewhat by the Humber Super Snipe he bought next!

What a great car but the rust just distroyed them,my uncle bought a new one in 1963 it was the Pink and Blue model and it was gorgeous,we used to travel to Waled in it occasionally to see relatives,my mum and dad were quite poor so this was a great treat for us as we couldn't afford a car at that time, great days out.

Our family owned two Crestas from new. A 1960 model (113 LRB) and 1963 (4205 R). It would be a miracle if either has survived.

Loved the cut back windscreen pillar on the Victor and Cresta. Great forward view.

Great knee catcher though! Most of the owners can testify that the missus has had to patch up the bruises!

I'm from the us. I'm a huge classic car buff and haven't worked my way into European cars especially 50s and 60s which is where I focus the most. But these cars look so freaking cool. To m they look like mini American cars

Vauxhall, like Holden in Australia, was and still is owned owned by General Motors, so a lot of styling is common amongst the group. It's sometimes hard to distinguish a Vauxhall from a Holden.

@18tangles can't disput it however I was told by a PA cresta owner of some 30 plus years, that they brought a yank over who at the very least helped disign it.

My Dad had a PA and a Classic, I ended up with 2 PA's, wish I'd had a MK1 Capri...My mate had an E series Cresta and his brother had a black MK2 Zodiac that was like brand new, looked great when they were all together.

The one mistake Vauxhall made with this model was to eliminate the rear wheel arches in the cabin which gave the back doors a practically straight line and this made for incredibly crowded leg room in the rear, the earlier and later models did not have this error.

I was given a PA Cresta in the early 70s as it wasn't expected to pass its MOT in a few months time (it didn't!). It was fitted with overdrive, but the switch on the gearbox was faulty so I could get o/d on reverse, 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears! Lovely car, too expensive for me to keep then. The engine ended up in a powerboat.

My uncle DAVID used to own a 1961 vauxhall cresta 2tone blue gordeous car! He owned it from 69/ 72 when we knew he was coming over to our house for a visit, me and my sister used to jump for joy! as he would take us out in it . As eddie cochran would say ...SOMETHIN ELSE!!

I am no PA expert but as I recall the PA came with Hydramatic Auto boxes as an extra and Powerglide came in around 1965 and was an option for the FC Victor and VX490 as I did own a Powerglide FC VX490.

In this excellent video I noticed one Cresta with "Hydramatic" badging on the boot lid. In the early 1960's I remember seeing one with "Powerglide" badging. Were these quite common or were they rarities?

    • @douglastodd1947

, they were refered to as power glide 3speed column change Crestas,ma dad bought ours with all the mod cons , ithink it was the first car to have door mirrors, all the rest were on the wings, it stood out like a sore thumb, painted Royal glow and Ivory (pink and white), a can still mind the reg MWG 409 REGISTERED APR 1959. Bought on root to get a brand new mk2 jag, pulled in for fuel, on route, that was sitting Vauxhall dealers showroom, we all fell in love wae it, had it nearly 14 yrs when it went , I even learned to drive in it.

A car show in 1992, with most of the cars about 32 years old at the time, an equivalent car show held today (2019), with cars the same age would be full of mid 1980's rubbish.

    • @andrew_koala2974

Rust protection was almost non-existent, and salting the ice covered roads contributed
      to accelerating the corrosion.
      Cars were destroyed quickly.
Also a problem in other Cold climates, in Europe and North America.
In addition to that cars that were always close to the coast line were affected by corrosion
      becoming Rust-Buckets.
