The Wrecking Crew is so tight on this recording. One of their best.

This version is superior to the other version that has no drum fills. This version also keeps the keyboard low. Not so cheesy. This is the best sounding recording available so far of this version. Others have lower fidelity.

I grew up with the other version, so I'm more partial to it then this one, but, this one is nice. This is a great song which ever version Gary Lewis and the Playboys did.

I wouldn't say superior, I liked the Cordovox ( keyboard accordion). It's just a matter of taste. A good song.

Yes, it's much better with the drum fills.

I never did too much to make her stay here .....
Words of love to her I'd never say !!
I guess I learned a lesson - when she walked out to stay -
But I'm .... sure gonna miss her - sure gonna miss her ....
I´m sure gonna miss her ..... every day
    I don't suppose I ever said "I love you" -
And I found out too late that wasn't right -
    I'm just now realizin' what I lost, that's why I'm cryin' ...
And I'm sure gonna miss her - sure gonna miss her,
I´m sure gonna miss her every night !!
I know I took her love for granted ....
Guess you could say my love was blind !!
Thought if she left that I could stand it -
Or else it didn't matter at the time ....
I heard she's found a guy that treats her better ??
I hope he knows that "he's a lucky guy" !!
I know the rumor's true because I saw her today ....
And I'm - sure gonna miss her ..... he was walking with her .....
I´m sure gonna miss her ..... yes I am ....

It took me 5 tries here to find this version. I love the percussion, especially on the piano. and that's missing from the other version.

Yes, and on the other version there are no drum fills.

@@music-e5e The other (hit) version doesn't even have a drummer; it's a rhythm machine. That version also has horns that don't really fit the song.

Best guitar runs ever by Tommy Tedesco of the "Wrecking Crew".

I was watching The Wrecking Crew movie and came here to listen to Tommy. Man, he sure nailed that Spanish guitar sound. He played basically the same lick every time, but it works lol!

Thx for commenting I just knew that was Tommy Tedesco. He was one of a kind 👍

    • @mannolas
      @mannolas 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Tommy of course would play those "Spanish guitar" licks in the studio versions with the Wrecking Crew. Then when the groups like Gary Lewis and the Playboys went out on the road to play dates, nobody in the band could duplicate the sound that Tommy got in the studio. Tommy was the best.

I always liked this version from the stereo version of the Hits Again album. The mono version of Hits Again had the version heard on The Legendary Masters CD which is in true stereo for the 1st time.

Actually in the LEGENDARY MASTERS series release, Gary talks about how he would play a straight beat through the song and then Snuff Garrett would have him over dub the drum fills in the song. Which is apparent on this version that they used this technique to record the drums. On the other version, he plays a straight beat all the way through but does not do any drum fills. Gary said he played drums on all the recordings until he switched to guitar to be out front on stage. He also stated that the Playboys were allowed to play on the basic tracks at sessions, but the session players usually covered them up when doing overdubs. I have used this recording technique when recording drums. It allows for the drummer to experiment with different drum fills on the recording, without having to do the entire song over again.
