Great vid. I've got a 2004 Trek 6500 and another from 2009. Mid-range HTs in their day. What I like most is their high quality and very lightweight frames, they're very quick esp with a few modern upgrades to critical areas 👌
Red trek video was a good learning experience for me, I'm retired and still learning how to work on 3,5,10,15,18,21SPEED bike's. Thanks 😊 for explaining what you're doing .
I still have my 7000 that I bought back in 1999 when I was 18 years old first new bike I ever bought when I started working in a shop. Still has tons of. Upgrades and I’ve tried to keep it original as I had it back at that time. Kind of a cool time capsule. Those asymmetrical wheels that you used were always kind of a pain.
I have very similar Trek 6500 in black with red trim. The ZX frame is a good quality aluminum frame. I had converted it to a single speed, but thinking of going back to original drivetrain. Thanks for the video!
Got a diamondback response XE in the pile you can do next? I have an old one in a lovely gray blue color with the strong box frame. Friggin love that thing.
I have a 18.5 6500zx same color as this bike, I wore out the chain rings pretty quickly, and then replaced them with 7075 chain rings. I've upgraded the front fork to a Black Box Carbon World Cup SID with 100mm travel, the carbon fork makes the bike ride a bit smoother that the standard Judy RS shock. Bike has served me well over the years, though I did have to rebuild the rear hub as the hub, and freewheel were out of adjustment, and a issue with the rear cassette freewheel.
I have a 1994 black and blue Giant Yukon that is in very good shape but the front Shimano MC10 Alivio shiftet was dead . It has SF -EF 59 ones on it now .
omg I commented on this a year ago without mentioning that v-brake sound..it's almost therapy to me after dealing with them for the first time and I love em. I think I have the 6500 SLR version with disc brakes. I spent way too much on this bike without touching the fork or shifters cuz everything but that and the headset has been replaced and I learnt so much from it. As for the brake setup: I say it's whatever the user likes (to a degree) I like em at 95% (if that even remotely says something) so I have enough buffer to have a feel before it rly bites, but I should not be able to hit myself while braking HARD eg OTB power and same goes for the back brake. Bonus points for achieving 1 finger wheeliestopping brakes (when front wheel is straight up) but most vbrakes never did that for me.
Hi its Ralph from south Wales uk, i have found the bottom of a T-shirt, the rib, if you tear it off its a good cleaner for the cassette, let me know what you think ?
It's almost like watching Bob Ross paint. I think I might have the same kind of trek 6500 frame but all the components are different. It's an ex rental with a paint job.
I love that 4130 welded brace Bontrager Crowbar. can you tell me how wide it is perhaps please ? i ask as i have two from the 90's from the last run of Privateer/Racelights .
Q: You know how to tell the difference between a freehub and a freewheel? A: A freewheel is the one that kids likes to take it off some sweet jump(s)! (It usually breaks).
Im so wasteful! You found a 3rd and 'dirtier rag' you were using and I already had thot you'd throw out the 2nd dirtier rag. Lol. You can get some miles out of a rag! Good work.
I'm buying one of these tomorrow morning. looks like the same year, too.

6500 was a cracking good bike. I genuinely regret selling mine.
Nice Napoleon Dynamite reference there. Lucky

When is the point of life when you have too many bikes ? "Trek 6500? I think I have one in the pile." 😀
Your workbench is cleaner than mine!
Great work & video, thanks. Ride Safe everybody !
Great video, I have a Trek 6000, thanks for the tips

Nice Job again!
Except burning ♨️ just a Sticker. Better use some Terpentin or alcohol.
Pure therapy, bro

Great video! May buy one of these 6500zx for my son. Thanks
This one just sold on Saturday!
Someone out there having a blast on it, I'm sure! If you don't mind disclosing, how much did the buyer pay for it?
@@robertferretti7990 $399 through my shop

It is taking my whole being to keep me from running down to my compressor and putting some compressed air in my shoes, right now.
YOUR MY IDOL
I've got the same bike going through some updates. Paid $55 for it recently

What it’s the air chuck adapter that you use in this video? I really enjoy your videos and have learned a lot.
That's a pretty cool handlebar on that ride, almost BMXish 😂
It's no sledgehammer, but it could handle some sweet jumps.
Heyyyyy you’ve got a charlie the bikemonger sticker! But now i’m off topic, really nice video!
Or a surly sticker maybe?…… cant tell for sure.;)
Gotta be Surly
@@bkefrmr yes sir👍

They pile up! It take a long while for me to give up on a rag
We know he's a professional, because we can't tell a difference between his "clean" rags from his "dirty" rags.
Are these handlebars stock?
Mine are like that. Same bike
Not Stock
I really enjoy your content, but as native German speaker: never heard gutandtight.
Pretty sure it’s High German 🏔️
@@bkefrmr Most likely😁
I honestly did not know seat posts needs grease
Especially if it's a steel bike with aluminum seatpost.
💯 if ya want to adjust/remove it easily 😅
Short instruction how to fck up your bike with blowtorch quickly!
