We still don't really know why the laws of physics are the way they are in the first place though, so we really are not sure if two Universes with different laws of physics would react. A microwave does this because the peak amplitudes of the microwave hit certains parts of your pizza, if you use a thermal camera on food from a microwave, you'll see a bunch of cold spots. A better microwave would reflect and distribute these waves more evenly preventing this.

If it was a parallel universe they would have the exact same back story and personality as you, if it was an opposite universe then you wouldn't exist because every decision made in that universe would be different to our universe therefore their universe could be more or less evolved than ours. There could be dinosaurs coexisting with humans/ could be different wars/ different eras. It could be like our timeline but one single event that isn't the same to ours could create a domino effect which causes many other events to happen or not happen therefore your birth would never happen. If your birth on another planet was to possibly happen the millions of years would have to be 100% identical to every event and movement that has EVER happened, if a leaf fell one second before or after the time it was supposed to in our universe it could change that universes outcome completely. Parallel universes are very unlikely to ever be discovered or even exist, it's just illogical that there will be another you. Trust me, if you understand this I'll be very impressed

Common misconception, Schrodinger's Cat was a thought experiment to show the FLAWS in Quantum Superposition. Basically, he says Quantum Superposition won't work for large objects such as a living creature cause an organism can't share a state of alive and dead at the same time, kinda like a zombie-state, there fore the Copenhagen Interpretation was flawed. Modern experiments support this claim. Tiny objects such as electrons are regarded differently than larger objects in Quantum Superposition.
The whole concept of the Schrodinger´s Cat experiment is based on the belief that things out of the microkosmos are in a superposition until they are monitored. They put up a setting in which an element would have been fallen apart and still intact while the element in a fallen apart state is toxic and put that together into a box with a cat thinking that noone monitored it.
But the cat was INSIDE the box so the cat witnessed it. So there is no alive and dead situation cause the element wasnt in superposition. Its either completly wrong where I wonder why noone figured that out yet or the explanation was simplified to the point where its no longer correct.

DOH!!!1 thank you for your insightful intellect to those whose I.Q. cannot grasp common word definitions. That is taking small words and combining them in larger concept called sentences which can be call paragraphs.
As a astronomer, I would add the caveat that I know nothing about parallel universes. Firstly I'd say the Cold Spot isn't "devoid of any galaxies", the Cold Spot is really just a feature on the CMB. It's not extremely cold but it has an odd shape to it which makes it reasonably anomalous in standard cosmology. Not strange enough to throw out existing theory but odd enough to suggest there might be something going on there. There are many explanations for what it could be, a feature of inflation, systematics in the instrument (now ruled out), the imprint of a large void and more exotic things like parallel universes.
Now with the parallel universes theory; I've heard this theory before. Brought some questions to mind. If something is colliding with our universe, is there any transfer of energy between the universes? Something increasing or decreasing? Can they both collide without some difference in energy? Would any net force just result in increased velocity through the multiverse and be nearly imperceivable to us observing from the inside?
Finally, there's no support for this claim yet, the scientist studying the spot merely speculated this could be the case, there's no evidence yet. Basically it could be anything like 100 other plausible explanations other than another universe colliding with ours. How about there's just a lack of radiation in that area?

The fascinating part of this theory is that it fits very well with the concept of matter falling into a black hole, and hitting space as a new medium in an equalized state of a pre-existing already consumed universe with adding matter accumulating "inside" the black hole universe, which in reality, is space separated by time. Black holes evaporate on huge scales of time considering the size and mass and the half-life of a stable proton inside a black hole being "consumed" and "excreted" through Hawking radiation, it can happen to be that space moves through time to account for the HUGE displacement that mass is making in space.
If this theory of universal "surface tension" has a similarity to the different environments that could be comparable to water and air, you would see that the effect of any matter going into a pond, creates a ripple as the water droplet "bounces" on the surface of the pond, and the droplet literally halves in size, doing so repeatedly until the water droplet is no longer observable, even as making a ripple; but if this is extended to how space is compressed and stretched by the sudden and violent addition and removal of huge volumes of mass in space would cause waves of gravity wells to hit where the intersecting matter from the black hole entrance met the black hole exit in the regular space time of "now" where space acts normally because it is expansive enough to include the orbit of electrons in between the protons and neutrons to make regular matter, instead of the compressed matter stream stuck in a time delayed orbit until the black hole evaporated.
In reality, if you ever try to compare the act of creating huge volumes of "matter in regular uncompressed spacetime" from the perspective in our universe that has an analogue, it IS the supernova event that is theorized to use energy to fuse silicon into iron. Taking that vast amount of energy out of the system causes a supernova explosion, because the event doesn't affect the entire star, just the core where the reactions went from an energy producer to an an energy syphon.
Vast amounts of superheated plasma stopped being energized in a HUGE wavefront to create a nebula, so it's easy to imagine that a void would exist if the outpouring of matter were paused from the "inside view" of a "big bang" black hole event.
When you're "inside" a black hole that exists in a "dead" universe you pop out of a black hole with reality resuming time in your metabolic perspective, billions of aeons after falling in; you have a very warped view of reality. For you, the person who fell in, time did a stretchy thing, as you fell through a fun-house effect of space time, where the stretched out black non-existence of the universe inside the black hole doesn't experience time at all because there are no interacting electrons that individually weave in between the protons and neutrons, they are instead, onion layers of compressed matter in different states, charged and uncharged, negatively charged and uncharged, all interwoven like a cable in layers, existing as long as that source of gravity does. Black holes do evaporate, energy is taken out of their systems through orbital decay. Energy is sapped from the black hole by space itself, space is taking back the warped time by turning it into heat energy. Matter and energy can not be created or destroyed, but in the case of a black hole, it gets moved through time, half the matter existing in the past, and half the matter existing in the future, and always it exists as a bell curve state; you are always on the curve of stretched spacetime while it exists, and the unobservable part of living on the "other side" of the black hole is what we would experience as the "big bang" theory of existence where we "expanded" from a single infinitely dense point of matter.
The Hawking radiation that becomes the CMB of the new universe is kind of fascinating to look at, but on our metabolic time scale, we would never witness the ripples and bounces that happen in the "background pond of spacetime" seen as the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation. We would always only see a single frame of that entire animation of ripples hitting the pond, much like that cold spot.
The universe is so vast that it's possible that every occurrence of other universes exists already in our own universe.

My theory: The cold spot could be where the big bang begun. If the cold spot is getting bigger and stuff starts to spread out, the place where it began will be less populated with stars causing it to be "cold". Heres an analogy: when you drop something into water it ripples. Those waves spread out father and farther and the spot where the rock plopped into the lake stops rippling as much than parts further away. And if the universe is expanding in all directions outwards, then its spreading out leaving the origin to be less populated. If thats true and if the universe is truly infinate then this supports my theory. Also, the big rip is said to have caused the big bang. If you dont know about it im sure you posted a video on it. When you stretch something out it eventually rips. That cold spot, being 3D and expanding in all direcrions could be the sign of rippage or taring. Not only will my theory solve the big rip, itll also solve the big bang and why that cold spot is specifically there. Itll also explain why we have a void because obviously there are not an equal ammount stars spreading equally in distance to another causing a void or again in this case: a cold spot. Actually our universe is expanding at what we would perceive as higher speeds then speed of light so you would need more speed the speed of light. (Relativistic) The reason im saying that is (ok) complicated, but here it goes: Think that every point in space is expanding that it also the reason between a point A and B the total sum of the their speed could exceed the speed of light. so tl;dr think of the universe as the view you get looking into a microscope. inside where you can see stuff is what we know of the universe. the black edges around it are impossible to see beyond but the rest of the slide still exists. The edge where that black region meets the part that you can see is like the cosmological horizon. The edge of that black area is not the edge of the slide, where there is nothing more to be seen. if you move the slide around you view a different part of the slide, but still cannot see beyond that black region. our problem is we can't move the slide(the universe) to see beyond the cosmological horizon. Sort of. Better explanation below.
The cosmological horizon is not an edge. People think of it as the edge of the universe, akin the the edge of a table. The universe is expanding. The further away from our perspective, and this is important to note, our perspective it speeds up. the cosmological horizon is an event horizon where the universe is expanding faster than light. Meaning that the light coming from beyond that point will never catch up to us so we can see beyond that. This is also important because the speed of light is also the speed of causality. Meaning cause and effect can only be transmitted as fast as a photon can travel, barring a few quantum effects like entanglement. Thus there is no measurement we can do to see beyond that. At least as physics today and likely the near future is concerned. ie; we can't move our place on the microscope slide to see past the horizon.
So basically what we see as the observable universe, there is a reason science calls it that, is merely what can reach us traveling at the speed of light. Space itself beyond that point is expanding faster than light. If you moved our position in the overall universe we would see a new section of the universe, but not beyond that same distance. Is the observable universe the entire universe? no. what lies beyond that horizon? iunno. neither does science. could it be an infinite number universes? I suppose anything is possible, but then if you assume that there could also be Cthullu out there too. More likely beyond the cosmological horizon is....more universe. not many universes, but more of the one we exist in.
Now, there is the argument that Leonard Susskind explains really well in a lecture on the Arrow of Time, that bubbles of new space time, separate from our own can spontaneously form within our universe. But to understand why that is unlikely you would have to watch that video. When it takes one of the world's greatest physicists and hour to explain it and me having to watch it 3 times, there is no way I can do that any justice.
Necroticus Thanks for the reply. I fully agree that “much lies hidden just out of sight” (in the words of an NPC in Ultima III) - but as you suggested that it might go on forever, isn’t it possible that there is a leading edge somewhere?
If the entire universe was the size of a baseball 1 trillionth of a second after inflation started, then even if space is expanding, there would still always be a boundary - even if it’s already expanded way outside of our viewable universe - would there?
The thing that confuses me a bit is how every point within the universe seems to be the center - with everything expanding away from that point in every direction. My best guess (as a layperson) is that the expansion is taking place in a 4th or 5th dimension (which for now I’m going to go ahead and suppose is true without doing any math whatsoever!). Hopefully one of these days, one of these videos will probe my speculation correct or incorrect: I don’t have the ability to pursue it on my own.
But back to the original topic - understanding that we’ll never be able to see it - does the universe have a leading edge or not? If we were on a planet just inside that leading edge, what would we see? Stars filling half the sky and blackness filling the other half? Something else?
It kind of reminds me of the movies Men in Black, if I remember at the end of one of the movies there were aliens playing marbles with I believe to be universes.

Instead of looking at the earth from above, we observe the universe from within. Think of it like this: the (observable) universe is a globe, and we stand in the inside, making a map of it.
