      It takes less time to just fill up the ice cube tray. You just fill it up with water and put it in the freezer. No need to squeeze and check for gaps, suctions, Bigfoot etc

    This seems way more complicated and frustrating than a regular ice cube tray.

      Especially if you consider that silicone ice cube trays (which is all this product really is, albeit an especially low volume model) also exist.

      I loved his review. He's saying it's difficult. He says it's problematic. I commented that I felt stupid for buying one from an Instagram click-through and was sorry that I wasted my money! I saw his video after my unfortunate purchase. But he's done a great job in this series and test products such as this waste of my money. He underscores the points needed to make the decision to avoid it. And he's got the real product. Mine was some sort of rip off similar but not same which added to the failure and my lesson has been learned! Fantastic video channel here.

      Actually the TH-cam algorithm promotes videos with higher levels of engagement. Likes or dislikes don’t matter as long as there’s someone clicking something. That’s why everyone tells you to like, favorite, comment, and subscribe- to get more views on their video because there’s a higher engagement.
      They don’t take his money away or send it to the dark reaches of TH-cam.
      Videos with a high dislike ratio still get views and it’s because there’s engagement

      Kodopuna I have to disagree. Think about how much space four of those would take up in your freezer. Opposed to having four ice trays. Sure they are longer, but you can stack them on top of each other. Then once you’re water is frozen you can put other things on top of the trays. So having really thought about it now in detail. The fact that you can stack trays makes my statement true, not an opinion. Also there is the fact that you get far more ice from the trays.

  • @jgibson111
    @jgibson111 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Congratulations on being the first and only reviewer to actually show the squeezing and removal of the cubes! Everybody else skips that part. And they all complain about the difficult lid placement and water leaking to the bottom in refills with stored ice.
    The Ice Genie may still not be worth it but I would skip the lid and on each refill put the cubes in a separate container.
    My real complaint would be the size of the Ice Genie itself. It takes up a lot of real estate in the freezer especially compared to stacking ice cube trays.

Those trays emptied faster than it took you to even get the white part out.

    I have an ice Genie and I make the ice and then put it in the regular ice holder (comes with the fridge) along with the other ice trays that I have. We like the ice Genie because we can put the ice in our water bottles, the other ice is too big. Also, even though it says to check the cylinder with your hand, if you press down (at least with mine) until it clicks, then there is no problem. There are pro's and cons, but the pro's are the tiny ice cubes and if you have a container to put the ice cubes in, then there is no hassle getting the cylinder out (even with my arthritic fingers. Great video, my first time was easier because of your video.

      Sig Pilot it’s more cost effective in the long run to get an ice tray plus like half the of the bag of ice melts and you end up with big chunks of ice once you freeze it again basically it’s inconvenient.

      Sig Pilot yeah for people like me who would rather avoid people it is

      Luxxer123 yeah but if you need to go the store a bag of ice would be perfect and it’s only 1 dollar.

    I bought one. Never used it until last week, and lost the instructions to it. Thanks for showing me how to remove the center separator. I didn't break the ice first, and it broke out super easy. I do wish the center piece had a bottom. For someone who doesn't use much ice, this is perfect, and I really like the smaller cubes. More surface area in the drink cools it down much faster. Then again, who drinks their beer with ice in it :P

    James - I just learned today (after seeing it) that my parents bought one of these 😫
    I wish they would have asked me if I knew anything about them so I could have shown them your review.

      Hey child, do you know anything about ice cube makers?

      He's doing it wrong. You dump the fist batch into a separate container to be kept frozen until the subsequent batches are made. THEN pour the ice into the Genie for storage in freezer.

      @ShintogaDeathAngel 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Cathy Childs Morrison this thing is advertised as 'space saving', as apparently those old fashioned long, shallow ice cube trays take up the whole freezer or whatever. So, if you have to dump the ice into a second container while freezing more batches, it's not space saving.
      There's also a high chance of all that loose ice then sticking together in a useless lump, which in fact did happen.
      James is also following their instructions, so if he's doing it "wrong" it's THEIR fault, not his!

    I watched this video because I was going to buy an Ice Genie, but that's so much work it's easier to buy ice trays. My issue is I don't have room in my freezer for the ice trays. Maybe I'll get a counter top ice make instead. Great video!!!!

    Thank you for your reviews, Im actually treated with some weird angry managment technique in which I (in order to "manage my anger" better) need to send constructive criticism to brands or product makers, so your videos are my therapy, if the products sucks I just go send them crappy stuff about their products!
    Thanks to you Im a happy(ish) person.

      Wow, that's a new technique I've never heard before. I like it.
      Would it be good to write letters to politicians? Seems possibly another great avenue to channel angst toward. Of course, only to advocate for causes you believe in.

      Elaine Marie hahaha yeees! I used to do that but it was before therapy, only bad things.

      Ah ha! I got to thinking, maybe that wasn't a good idea, afterall.
      Then I was thinking you could hire out your services to ghost write salty letters to exes for partners who were done wrong. I actually wonder if you can parlay your energy into a business and made some extra dough.
      You have a great sense of humor, sounds like you're healing well.

    A textbook example of over-engineering, it's not even a decent novelty product. Also, that's quite the slick setup you've got there for your reviews. I think you had about 8000 subscribers when I started following your channel, it's been very neat watching your channel develop.

    I got one of these for xmas but ended up giving it to my GF.
    She lives in a small studio right now with a smaller than normal fridge, using this actually saves her a lot of space since she can't really fit normal ice cube trays and have room for food. She really likes having the already frozen ice and the water to be frozen in the same space.
    But yea, if you have a full sized fridge you dont need this, it's only real advantage is saving space
