well tom i actually used a video finally. nexus root toolkit (yeah i was lazy and wanted to finally root marshmallow) bootlooped my N6.....somehow rooting. great video dude!!!!

I got root but...
After I flashed the boot image and everything, my battery had gone crazy and I have 4000%.
Any ideas what the issue is and how to fix it? I can't find anything online besides one about the Nexus 5 which says to flash the factory boot image and reinstall SuperSU to get root back but I'm assuming the modified boot image is what is giving me root so...

The root tool kit will root 6.0 as well. It does this very seamless. Maybe you should do a video on it... I'm not as popular as you are lol. Great video though, as always.

Hey i have a nexus player and i am trying to root it but was wondering how will i install super su on it the because it will ask me to swipe to confirm flash when installing through twrp . How is it possible to swipe. Or is there another way to install super su? Please get back at me . Thanks
Hey, I try to root my nexus 5. All have working fine for installing supersu 5.2, but when I have press reboot system, I am on the boot animation, but it is endless like a loop, help please ... PS I have not try anything. should I wait , or try too press volume bottom and power bottom ? it like make more than 30 min. Sorry for my bad english
When I open the boot file it says 'the disc image file is corrupted' ...so I'm guessing it doesn't work anymore?

The build # is MRA58V. Following instructions from a different tutorial, I tapped the build number 7 times and enabled USB Debugging. That is the extent of what I have done to my device.
I need to restore ADB in order to use Apps2Fire to install Kodi on a FireTVstick.
Hey man I did everything just like in the video on my nexus 5, and this is not my first time rooting it, and everything went great untill I installed SuperSu and now it has been booting for more than 30 minuts and doesn't start up. Its stuck on that looding screen the colored google letters and thats it, pls help what can I do??

My is build number is MRA58R, his was MRA58K. Can I still root my nexus 6 the same way he did?
Recently I had successfully used Apps2Fire App to install Kodi and some other apps to my Amazon FireTVstick. I do not have a computer. I use a Nexus 7, 2013, Android 6.0.
Because I was having serious problems with Kodi on the Stick (constant crashing), I uninstalled it, and now,I fjnd, because Marshmellow does not have ADB, Apps2Fire is no longer compatible with N7.
lt seems that in order to restore ADB, and be able to use the sideloader, my N7 has to be rooted, among other things, which are a total mystery to me..
Does your process for rooting my N7 require the use of a computer?
Do you know of some way, other than thru use of Apps2Fire app, of uploading Kodi from my tablet to the Stick?

No. Most likely a software update would revert your root access. There are some rare cases where it doesn't in a minor update but the safe answer is that you will lose root. You can still update, but you will just need to reroot after.

+Elbys Gonzalez no, this is wrong. you cannot update a device that has root or an unlocked bootloader. the OTA update will download but will not install. you have to unroot and relock the bootloader... which then also wipes your data. the only other way to update is to download the factory image and extract it to modify it's boot.img and other various images that get written to your phone during the update. this process is even more complicated than rooting and in my experience, caused my OS to become corrupted on more than one occasion. Good luck.
+Warren Roberts I think it depends on the device. I had my nexus 7 2013 rooted on kit kat and I was able to receive the OTA update and I was able to install it to upgrade to lollipop. But it did remove my root access but everything else was fully functional. But the safe approach is to probably unroot like you said.
yeah. sorry wasn't trying to be rude but I'm having the craziest time getting straight answers on the issue of what to do when you have root and you receive an OTA update. I agree it probably depends on the device, but from what I've experienced, if you're rooted in most cases you'll eventually have to factory reset to update to the newest flavor of Android. Seems to me, having root access just creates an infinite loop of work I have to do to keep updating my phone. It also seems like no one else has a problem with losing all their data every few months and starting over. I DON'T GET IT!

hey if I root it then i can't take ota updates for firware and modem. i basically want to stay rooted, do roms get firmware updates and baseband updates on nexus, i don't want to keep unrooting for ota updates. I preordered the nexus 6p, am using a oneplus one now and I can just flash firmware updates and radio updates, is it the same for nexus?
+theSTIG Matei yes you can flash firmware and radios on the nexus 6P as long as you have the device bootloader unlocked
ok so you recommend unlocking the bootloader right when I get it, as it wipes everything on device. Do I need to set up android pay before unlocking bootloader?
yes unlock first and android pay stops working once rooted not with a unlocked bootloader

I managed to flash the TWRP custom recovery image and was able to boot into it, but once i flashed Super SU my phone was bricked. Had to download official images and "flash-all" in ADB to get it back to stock condition. In essence, I still need to figure out why it went wrong.

so since i posted this comment i made some adjustments still nothing i am using this supersu www.devfiles.co/download/4MJLDH5K/BETA-SuperSU-v2.66-20160103015024.zip i also tried 2.65 and i looked up the boot file based on my build number still no dice and this is after trying your tutorial and auto root
my phone however did unlock though and says so on the screen and i also tried extracting the supersu file so it is no longer a zip but i have zip file if that was a mistake command prompt also does not come up like yours

this is a major question that needs to be answered. there are so many vids on here about "how to root your device! follow step by step!" but no one talks about what happens in 3 months when 6.1 OTA hits my phone and I'm rooted and can't install it. please answer this question...
anyone who is rooted should Google nexus 6 xda-developers check out Light-rom 6.0 it's working great for me no issue.
