Yes If its detail its the most detail, but ben jonshon has 2 m on their lighting tutorial and its only been 1 year Its not as detail it is I think its just its so simple rather than this and the result are the best that are simple

It's normally placed slightly above your subject and about 45 degrees from the camera, off to one side. Be aware of the placement of your key light, cause if you don't you'll end up looking like a racoon or a creepy pasta character. _Catch light_ (2:52) = The reflection of light seen in the subject's eyes. It makes the subject come to life. *5 Types of lighting depending on the placement of the _KEY LIGHT_ * 1. Flat lighting (3:27). You put the light straight to the face of your subject. It gives a 2D effect. No depth, not cinematic or dramatic. Usually used in commercials and beauty shots. 2. Paramount or butterfly lighting (4:00). You put the light straight to the face, but from a slightlly upper angle. It gives a butterfly shadow under the nose, a drop shadow at the chin, and it gives depth to the face. Usually for face portraits of women (4:17) 3. Loop lighting (4:58). You put the light like you would on the 2nd type of lighting, but you go to one side (left or right), don't stay in the middle. It's used for rounder faces. 4. Rembrandt lighting (5:18). You put the light the way you would in the 3rd type, but even further on the side. It makes a triangle of light. It's a very famous way of lighting, it gives off that cinematic look, it makes the images pop and look three dimensional. There are two sub-categories of this one: -Broad light (5:48), where you position the camera on the brighter side of your subject -Short light or dark side lighting (5:52), where you position the camera on the darker side of your subject. I have seen a few lighting vids (not all) but this is definitely a solid video around lighting and the reasons why ...
When I went to college and took a lighting class we spent 2 hours covering the history of the first lights in cinema and another 2 hours talking about the basics of modern light hardware. I dropped the course immediately because I was bored to death and knew I could learn faster on the internet. I'm happy to see how far youtube has brought us. The days of lazy college professors and days of expensive, drawn-out classes are coming to an end and you're one of the pioneers who's shifting the paradigm. Thank you :)

In photography school they explained this to me in a couple of courses taking over a few months. Parker explainded this in 10 minutes. Better.
Dusty O'Daffer it’s depends what you want from Uni lecturers. Do you want a quick explainer with some atrocious examples or do you want 3 months of practical based exercises, specific examples, historical context, leads to further in the field, finding collaborators you will have with your for life and using the time there to develop not only technical skills, but practical skills (production), collaborators, developing a deeper understanding of filmmaking as a craft and as an art, and developing your tastes through exposing yourself to film, film makers and alternate ideas you may not come into contact with outside of an institution. Can everything be learnt on TH-cam now? Yes. But one thing you will quickly realize is that getting a professional image is one thing but if you want to make films that have the potential to lead to feature films then the technical standard will likely be a minimum met by thousand and thousands of film makers. So although absolutely important, once there is meaningless and it because about you as an artist, your perspective, your sensibilities, your ability to tell a story within the cinematic form that shows your distinctive voice. Finding that is so much harder and so much more important than attaining technical proficiency. Check out the short films of Barry Jenkins, Sofia Coppola and even the whiplash short, technically they are fine but what they Have is perspective and a distinctive voice rather than this which outside the main interview and when the thumbnail stills are shown are just atrociously shot interviews.
@@daffertube That may be the case for videography, but you're never going to learn a semester's worth of physics modules by spending a day watching TH-cam videos. Also, college professors aren't just wasting your time and conning you out of your money; they design the courses like that for a reason.

What so intelligent about Parker is that his Marketing material is genuinely educational- like "raise your game" type educational. The idea of invest in your audience so they can invest in you is very much " Parker" trade mark. I only thought its possible to get into photography by watching your videos. Parker - I've been working on my TH-cam videos for the past 6 months and struggled and struggled to figure out lighting! I've watched a ton of videos on it, but YOURS was the one that helped me figure it out! Even though I had them at the right angles, I had been placing my lights WAY too far away! Hey Parker, I'm seeking ideas for short film documentary type videos for my channel. There's one big twist though which is I'm limited to using only stock footage & b roll to create my videos, no actors/interviews etc. Although this style of creating videos is widely frowned upon by professional filmmakers who shoot their own scenes etc, it's something I enjoy doing & find very convenient & affordable. Long story short, I used to make daily/weekly videos w/minimal dialogue on various current events via creative commons using licensed stock footage in addition to 3rd party news clips/archive footage etc. The result was a mix between a dramatic short film/unorthodox doc.. Due to recent TH-cam policy changes which now require original commentary for videos, I've been left w/no other option but to delete nearly all my preexisting content & millions of views. I'm now in the stages of starting over from scratch in attempts to salvage my channel that I worked so hard on creating. My new plan is something completely different which is foreign to me, & that includes incorporating original scripts for each video which will be narrated by a voice over artist & written by an award winning screenwriter... The goal is to create informative proper short film docs minus the traditional format which includes interviewees etc as previously mentioned.. Since I previously made videos with no script or dialogue & rather just "winged it" on each video given my frequent upload rate, I'm now having an extremely difficult time coming up with new ideas. I mainly focused on geopolitical tensions & day to day news/current events instead of topics that were thought of in advance & created from scratch. The only genres I've come up with so far include humanitarian issues, climate matters, endangered species, sci-fi/space, military & politics. Although I can branch out on these various topics I'm looking to expand the list for more options. The transition from video news journalism to narrated short films is much tougher than I ever anticipated. Any opinions or advice would be welcomed & greatly appreciated!

Manwell Haumu I don't know why TH-camrs want cinematic look if your aren't creating films for the cinema. It's TH-cam not rocket science.

Hey Parker, I'm seeking ideas for short film documentary type videos for my channel. There's one big twist though which is I'm limited to using only stock footage & b roll to create my videos, no actors/interviews etc. Although this style of creating videos is widely frowned upon by professional filmmakers who shoot their own scenes etc, it's something I enjoy doing & find very convenient & affordable. Long story short, I used to make daily/weekly videos w/minimal dialogue on various current events via creative commons using licensed stock footage in addition to 3rd party news clips/archive footage etc. The result was a mix between a dramatic short film/unorthodox doc.. Due to recent TH-cam policy changes which now require original commentary for videos, I've been left w/no other option but to delete nearly all my preexisting content & millions of views. I'm now in the stages of starting over from scratch in attempts to salvage my channel that I worked so hard on creating. My new plan is something completely different which is foreign to me, & that includes incorporating original scripts for each video which will be narrated by a voice over artist & written by an award winning screenwriter... The goal is to create informative proper short film docs minus the traditional format which includes interviewees etc as previously mentioned.. Since I previously made videos with no script or dialogue & rather just "winged it" on each video given my frequent upload rate, I'm now having an extremely difficult time coming up with new ideas. I mainly focused on geopolitical tensions & day to day news/current events instead of topics that were thought of in advance & created from scratch. The only genres I've come up with so far include humanitarian issues, climate matters, endangered species, sci-fi/space, military & politics. Although I can branch out on these various topics I'm looking to expand the list for more options. The transition from video news journalism to narrated short films is much tougher than I ever anticipated. Any opinions or advice would be welcomed & greatly appreciated!
