You should do a video on the adventures of Pete & Pete Next. It was Nickelodeon’s best show after This and it also was cancelled rather abruptly, despite being immensely popular. It’s sad that neither show is available to stream or on Blu-Ray anywhere
Pete and Pete is on the agenda. I still remember so many things from that show ha ha ha Make sure to hit that sub button so you know when it goes live.
Dude I know… that is the real mystery. The only guess I have is I assume multiple distribution companies own a part of the rights or certain episodes. Which sadly is very common for shows in the 90s.
Digital has been bad too. Amazon has had Seasons 1 and 2 listed for years. They're both only 6 episodes each. But Season 1 doesn't let you buy Budnick & Dina In Love Part 2 which means you have to buy episodes for $1.99 each and can't get the Season discount.
I watched this show. Some scenes still remain in memory. Like when two characters wrap themselves in tin foil so they can get a signal for the tv. Or the water slide episode which in the end they used the money to buy and plant a new tree. Of course, the voice of Dr. Kahn is actually the big thing that remained in my head.
Good video man! I grew up with Nickelodeon and Salute Your Shorts so I’m very happy to see someone who loved them as much as I do. I got recommended the channel by TH-cam and keep up the great work please!
I didn't have many friends growing up so all these 80s & 90s shows are my passion. I am glad liked the video... we will call it even by you smashing that SUB Button. 🔥
The counselor idea was already used to some extent. There was an episode where Ug let Budnik take over for him. Budnik didn't do too bad, either; using an old King Solomon idea to resolve a dispute between Z.Z. and Dina.
I always wanted to go to summer camp, but my parents would never permit me, and so I had to get my summer camp fantasy fix from Salute Your Shorts and summer camp-themed Goosebumps books. I wish they’d release the seasons on DVD
I only got to go to a weekend camp once. It was one of the coolest things I did as a kid. Other than that I am right there with you ha ha ha Yes we need a full release. Thanks for watching and supporting. Make sure to hit that sub button for more awesome content coming soon.
It's weird to think that I have a better memory of _Salute Your Shorts_ with it 2 seasons than I do _Hey Dude_ with its 5 seasons. And yet, as I'm rewatching the latter… the episodes are quietly dribbling out of my head even now, while Camp Anawanna's campers live rent-free in my head, as they have been for over 30 years. Huh. As an aside, it's kind of a shame Michael and Pinsky never got to meet in the show. Also, a permanent Counselor Budnick would've been exceedingly cool.
Honestly I think salute your shorts had episodes that resonated with kids and left lasting impressions. I mean hell… everyone remembers Zeke the plumber 😂😂😂
I wonder how it would go. A movie or original series... Dr. Kahn passes away and his niece Ellen (the brat from season 2, ep. 12) inherits the camp. She finds out he owes back taxes and camp attendance has been dwindling since the glory days of the 80s-90s. Ellen reaches out to Bobby Budnick to help revive the camp. Episodes center around Budnick trying to track down the old gang. In the process, we get updates on all the characters. ZZ is a Jacques Cousteau type, Sponge a is tech mogul, Donkeylips is doing standup. There are some unexpected transformations, like Dina, who has become a humble elementary school teacher. They reminisce about the old days and decide to volunteer for one last summer as counselors. There are nods to Ug throughout, but maybe we don't find out exactly what happened. In the end, mail carrier Mona drops off a letter at the camp. Turns out she and Ug married and lived happily near the camp, and before he passed he wrote a heartwarming letter to the old gang and asked her to deliver it should she ever see them return to camp. He knew they would come back some day.
Damn dude... Nickelodeon should hire you... this would be awesome. The only thing I would change is Donkey Lips is a well know chef - This way he would have reason to show up at the camp and help the kids with the cafeteria/food 😅. That and the girl that played Mona sadly passed away too - so we would have to make it their daughter or something like that. Still would be dope 🔥🔥🔥
It was the early days of Nick doing original scripted series. And the Layborne administration, who was in charge then, had this radical way of doing things. They had this crazy idea of, lets not milk this for all it's worth, and run it into the ground. They actually carried that idea all the way through the mid-90s. Even cancelling Rugrats after they reached their 65 initial episodes. But of course, once Layborne left, and Scannell took over, they immediately uncancelled Rugrats, and started production on a movie. The toy sales were too good to leave it cancelled. The reruns of Rugrats were getting higher views than cnn.
Bunk'd on the Disney Channel more recently was a perfect example of what Saulte Your Shorts could have been. Every year, there were new campers and when the older kids got too old to be campers they either left the show or became counselors/counselors in training.
Another show that was supposed to get another season was My brother and me a show I really enjoyed, but cancelled only after the first season and 13 episodes.
Back in the 90's when I was in Boy Scouts, during the week of summer camp we would elect certain scouts to join the Order of the Arrow and after callout, we would raid their bags and snatch a pair of underwear and run them up the flagpole. The next morning, they would come back to camp to grab some things, and we would be sure to rub it in their faces especially since they were under a code of silence and couldn't say anything.
Its super fun to go back and watch which you can do on Paramount Plus. If you like this Salute Your Shorts video be sure to check out my other videos on the series: th-cam.com/play/PLRJo80RDCmYDsvfqXB7M5zyR2cxWhjf2j.html

@Wild1Unknown but really that was the character Tom's purpose in the story. Ask John questions and bring the viewers up to date on what happened between 1984 and 1996. The movie was released in 1991.
Wow, keeping the cast of campers on as counselors would've been a brilliant way to retain the cast while introducing new younger campers, though the show would probably have to explain why the camp only had one counselor before and now suddenly needed more.
I think it would have worked well too. My buddy who went to camp told me before that they do have “Junior Counselors” which would have been perfect for the OG cast. Thanks for watching and support. Make sure to hit that SUB button for more awesome content coming soon. 😝
