  • Here I go over how to ship or mail live pigeons, but the content is applicable for mailing or shipping any type of bird (e.g. chickens, quail, etc). Hope this is useful information, and if you have suggestions for improvement in my process for shipping live pigeons please include them in the comments!

    Thanks for this video. We just rescued a pigeon and found a forever home in Tennessee (13 hours away). This video made me feel ok about going this route.

      Thanks for rescuing that bird! That is really awesome of you! Glad the video helped. Don’t ship it during A holiday week, and also ship on Monday or Tuesday

      @@RFRP yes we are swinging by the post office tmrw and may have a local lead for a rescue person, but if that does not pan out, the long-distance shipping is a backup. The bird is so docile, just a bit skittish. He has a fake blue 2019 band. I wish we knew his story. Thanks for such a well put together video.

      I have a question tho what about the receiver how does he/she preper for picking up the bird?

    • @RFRP
      @RFRP  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure why this comment did not come through. The USPS will either deliver it to the address or they will call the intended receiver to come pick it up. I always provide the tracking information to the people I send birds to via the mail so they can know exactly where the bird is en route.

    If I knew there was even a CHANCE that my birds could die, I would never transport them this way. I just don't get this. I'm sorry. Even if your birds make it, how are they not traumatized for life after this experience? The things humans do to animals for their own convenience never ceases to amaze me.

      Umm, are you aware that dogs, cats and pretty much every other farm animal or type of pet gets shipped all the time?

      Animals handle stress differently than humans since at the end of the day it’s all a matter of mentality. Unlike humans, animals aren’t self destructive.

    Do you pay by the Weight or size of the box or how does that work

    • @RFRP
      @RFRP  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question! Size of box and weight factor into the price.

    can you give them something like unsweetened apple sauce so they stay hydrated and fed?

    • @RFRP
      @RFRP  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks for the comment! I have never tried that, but it might work well. I just have never give apple sauce to pigeons before; it’s a bit of a stretch from their normal grain diet. I think it could be worth a try for pigeons (without shipping just to see how they handle it); it would certainly be great for chickens! Thanks for sharing!

    How many days to ship

    • @RFRP
      @RFRP  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Within the US my experience is that express shipping overnight typically takes an extra day (so in reality it’s 2-day shipping).

    Can you please tell me they going to sed me some pigeon from Florida why can I expect and how much is going to to be

    • @RFRP
      @RFRP  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The seller should always provide the tracking number to the buyer. The birds may have to be picked up at your local post office or they may deliver it to your house. When birds are sent here I usually have to drive to my post office to pick them up; that probably differs from location to location. Shipping expenses vary within the US and the size and weight of the box used. If one uses a box that conforms to the newer guidelines then I expect it to cost around $60.

    How much you pay

    • @RFRP
      @RFRP  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on the destination, number of pigeons (weight), and size of box, but for me it typically is between $60-$70.
