    We will never see another singer-songwriter even near the quality and musical energy/artistry of Paul Simon ever again. He, in my humble opinion, is the absolute best singer-songwriter in human history. He wrote this song in 1969!, very early in his career, and it was evident that he was born a master and is now a living legend. The Boxer to me is Paul's masterpiece. Music doesn't get any better than this. Thank you Paul.

      I was always afraid to say so - because I thought I was the only one with that opinion. I rate him higher than Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, whoever... Also, if they had to award the Nobel prize in literature to a singer-songwriter, in my book, that should have been Paul Simon. Just consider even his deep cuts like Flowers Never Bend with the Rainfall, A Dangling Conversation, Learn How to Fall, A Hazy Shade of Winter, Cloudy, Slip Sliding Away, Papa Hobo, One Man's Ceiling is Another Man's Floor, Something So Right - the list goes on. And in his lyrics, it's the seemingly ordinary folks, everyday situations and themes he chooses, how he handles them so empathetically with simple everyday words - it's profound commentary on the lives of everyone of us without ever seeming to be so. Maybe the Nobel committee can act while there's still time - and maybe some of the hordes of Paul Simon illiterates will see the light and get a taste of this therapeutic ambrosia that they and many others could be missing out on during their short stay on this planet.

    I was in the London tube tunnels a week or two ago and there was a busker playing Simon and Garfunkel tunes by himself with a single amp and guitar. I threw a few quid in his cap and stayed a while....just to listen to what was my father's music. My dad died 3 years ago, but he'll always live through this music. His music. Your music. Our music.

      The nostalgic quality of that folk music ringing
      in the tube tunnels can wrap you right up in your memories and transport you back in time. As an 8 year old my big sister strummed her guitar and sang S&G with deep feeling. I can close my eyes even now and be right there by her side, each lyric being inscribed on my heart 💕

    Beautiful. We'll be losing these folks soon, the giants of songwriting of the 60s and 70s. I don't know if it's just because their songs are ingrained in me since childhood or the nature of our fragmented digital media, but I'm not sure we'll ever see the likes of them and their work ever again, where a multi-generational crowd knows these songs and can sing along like this.

      I suffered with suicidal depression. I began to heal by volunteering in my local community, and kept myself too busy to indulge in the "me, me, me" of depression. I didn't use therapy or prescription drugs. I used meditation and volunteering, along with creating a healthier lifestyle; but some do need drugs to get better. Try everything until something helps. This here is a true national treasure being honored as he should be . This is the essence of folk music here in the tradition of it… that being bringing people together for wholesomeness with love . This isn’t a sleazy old over the hill pole dancer… no this here is a man worthy of being known as a legend to live on long after he goes home . Now pass the biscuits and gravy… and shut y’all pie holes… or sing along . It’s easy even for you. Goes somethin like this ly ly ly ly ly ly ly ly ly ly ly ly ly ly . 👏 Yeah that’s more like it .

      @@MrWahooknows My comment wasn't meant to be about how anyone's singing voice was bad; it was instead about how awesome the legend Jerry Douglas is! I'd rather listen to his Dobro than most singers of any age.

      Playing a Dobro slide guitar that well takes many, many years until you aren’t playing it as much as it becomes an expression of you.

      @dereknolin5986 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wadesorchids7219 I've been teaching myself squareneck reso for about 5 years now. It took me a good six months of playing several times a week just to get to the point where I could consistently play in tune. I play a lot of different instruments, but lap steel/ Dobro is definitely one of the harder ones. Check out AJ Ghent's slide guitar to hear another amazingly expressive player!

    Poets and musicians can and always will make a difference, because they touch our hearts and souls . Loved Paul Simon since his first breakthrough songs in the 60’s …
    he has given us so many to listen and be inspired by . He and Paul McCartney have been prolific songsmiths in our lifetime ….amazing eh ? I’m signing out from good old London too ! 👋

    Sincere words written at the moments of experience, even more so the passionate song that shared beautifully the moments. The struggles, the hardships and light are crafted and composed to allow or create a relativity to so many, ne included. Time along with the erosive waves of time combined with comfort/grandeur diminishes the humility of that moment. Just my thought and while not great, words I have written and why, I hope is how I walk and live. Hope, as from your eyes not mine looking out. The perfection of the word and sound is from a person who hasn't been great in that arena. Beautiful song and group, thanks.
