One of my favorite parts about the song is Bill woke up from a dream once night and heard this song exactly as we do now. All he did was write down the words and chords. Then Bill was like "oh cool...guess we got that one done."
"When I looked in the mirror, I saw your face and thought of the past, But now I know how dirty you are, I took my fist and smashed the glass!!!!!" Best lines on the song!!!
Holy crap! This happened when I was 11 and 2 hours away. You have to love that Milo "went to college" and got his PhD in Biochemistry. So typical of "punk rock" singers! Love the Descendents forever. Enjoy!
this was the soundtrack of my life when i was in high school! i used to play this stuff for chicks to show them i was sensitive. best lyrics and a great time to grow up.
I was 15 when Descendents graced my path. All the emotion, sadness and anger in me was epitomized in this band and then I began to play my guitar. Thanks to them, I had a medium for it all :) -Jake
I may have been at this show also...grew up in STL, and was 16 at the time. This was the year my friend "little Dave" introduced me to them. Have seen them twice, ALL four times. Great stuff indeed...timeless I might say!
Were? I guess I'm seeking self-actualization yet. 29 years without leaving my "playlists". Strangely enough, it's clean sheet night at our house. Wife still won't sing along while helping with the task. Silly girl.
I was in 7th grade.... Fuck. The last time I saw Mississippi Nights there was a Bobcat (bulldozer) inside the front entrance facing out. Would have been the best picture ever but cell phones weren't around yet. StL is going down the tubes and I will always point to the loss of Mississippi Nights as the turning point
Cool footage of a cool group and cool song. I lived in Saint Louis, where this was shot in 1987. Unfortunately, I was too young to go to a concert this at that time because I would most likely be trampled.
remember the show here in Miami Beach I believe it was either at the Thrashcan or at the Junkyard back in the day. We had great venues at Miami Beach for a few great years
@DIEHALLZ the best!!!!!!!!!!!!! i went to LA at Whisky witout tickts 4 the reunion from Argentina and my friend Paul hit me up w All Access Pass!!!!!!!!!!The best gift ever.........
What a great show. I went to tons of shows in the 80’s at this club. Played there a lot too (mostly with Ultraman & Drunks with Guns), opening for Suicidal, Circle Jerks, Battalion of Saints, and many others. The Wall of Voodoo show in ‘83 and the Gun Club In ‘82 were like being in the presence of the gods, on high. Indeed.
@HiTStarscream I'm seeing them in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane in a couple weeks. They have never 'broke up' and will be playing shows here and there next year as well after the 4 shows they are doing in 2010. They may do another album... but not even they know if and when that will happen.
my boyfriend introduced me to this band and taught me a bit about them,he knows all kinds of amazing bands that today's so called artists get all there ideas from, cause they're not nearly as original as bands like these guys, when Randy first showed me this song,i fell in love with the band, and the music he grew up with that i didn't!
I saw this tour 2x. Milo Aukerman smelled so bad that I noticed, and I was skating the whole day. They took pride in that, and they put on great shows every day. Sometimes twice a day. (An underage and an of-age show). The gave out coffee beans to keep the crowd going. The best punk band for so long, in my opinion. And really decent people. That's all you can ask. Legally.
Great post. Yeah, punk was originally just a term to describe small upcoming garage bands. It was synonymous with "amateur" until the late 70's CBGB scene gave it a distinct sound, and then the british punk wave followed. It started getting pretty elitist once the bad eggs who were more obsessed with looking cool and being a badass started trying to out-punk each other.
Wow. Most excellent. Thank you for posting. I can picture the multi hued blue album cover. I know it was a bit of a sell out album to some at the time. Wasn't this from the ALL album?
Its kind of wierd but at 20 your kind of 3rd generation. lol. I'm 26, and because of that I've been able to see them 3 times. Twice on the 'Everything Sux' tour and the show they did in Asbury Park in 02'. I've seen the Descendents twice, and ALL twice. And actually Milo did the encore at one of the ALL shows I went to at the Troc in Philly so I guess I can say I saw the Descendents 4 times. Anyway I hope they tour again so you can see them!
a decent performance of a classic tune. they were THE DESCENDENTS. why are you all wasting your time and energy fighting? please, just enjoy the music. they were AMAZING. no?
I don’t think any band can sing about love as good as descendants can haha
One of my favorite parts about the song is Bill woke up from a dream once night and heard this song exactly as we do now. All he did was write down the words and chords. Then Bill was like "oh cool...guess we got that one done."

This is my favorite descendents song. I saw them friday night and they still play it. Shit gives me goosebumps.
Milo looked like such a geek back then
I will always remember the light blue cover of that album, 1987, the lame stencil drawings, Milo!!! Classic!!!
brings back memories...time flies. Are we old?
Fantastic!! Descendents Live Forever!! Yeahhh From Brazil!!! \o/
Milo and the Descendents are the best... thanks for posting this...
Hahaha, I just put clean sheets on my bed. The Descendents were one of my favorite bands when I was a kid.
Were?
I guess I'm seeking self-actualization yet. 29 years without leaving my "playlists".
Strangely enough, it's clean sheet night at our house. Wife still won't sing along while helping with the task. Silly girl.
B-Rad585 When you were a kid? 'I don't want to grow up.' They're still my favorite.... ever.
blogobre Mine still. New music for the most part sucks. I still listen to "college radio" and they still play The Smiths.
Man I love this band so much. Thanks for putting this up.
I was in 7th grade.... Fuck. The last time I saw Mississippi Nights there was a Bobcat (bulldozer) inside the front entrance facing out. Oh, and the DK’s and X in ‘81, both within a week of each other. Incredible.

@HiTStarscream I'm seeing them in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane in a couple weeks. They have never 'broke up' and will be playing shows here and there next year as well after the 4 shows they are doing in 2010. They may do another album... but not even they know if and when that will happen.

@clcsqueejy04 I got my wish when then decided to come to Aus for the first time ever!
Milo reminds me of Mort Goldman from Family Guy whenever he says "turn off the echo please" haha
Milo was a hell of a singer
fuk yeah my fav descendents song ever.
Wow. Most excellent. Thank you for posting. I can picture the multi hued blue album cover. I know it was a bit of a sell out album to some at the time. Wasn't this from the ALL album?
There's a Japanese punk sub-genre called Seishun Punk and I believed these guys were the first to pioneered that sub-genre.
Its kind of wierd but at 20 your kind of 3rd generation. lol. I'm 26, and because of that I've been able to see them 3 times.
