why do comp skaters hop up on the coping just to immediately drop back in? if you're taking a second before a difficult trick it makes sense but sometimes they're up there such a short period it feels like an awkward break for no reason when they could just flow

@@ismaieltape8448 He definitely isn't the only one lol....maybe with that specific variation but tons of dudes do 270 blunts and noseblunt variations in contest park runs and have for a LONG time. Go watch Greg Lutzka. He did a kickflip frontside 360 to noseblunt in the 2010 Maloof Cup contest. Not saying he is as good as Yuto obviously, but he does a ton of those types of tricks.

Last trick took the cake, dont get the hype from the smith stall before it
Its prob bc he was just doing backside disasters to set up on prior runs and then he just popped it out of nowhere first try and perfect. Backside and over rotated Smith isn't easy
no idea how this compared to other runs, but koston's 2007 run (16 years ago) was way better
I just rewatched Koston's run, half his landings were sketchy and he fell on last trick.......

Nope. Not even close. Koston had a good song playing. Lost speed on half his landings, and also completely pooped out on his last trick. Yuto did not.
Honestly he’s amazing but theres no style or soul behind it. It feels like I’m watching a robot do as many tricks as possible. It’s hard to explain what makes watching skateboarding enjoyable as opposed to just being able to land tricks with high consistency. It’s just so hollow.

you're nuts, yuto has great style. sounds to me like youre one of those guys thats just gonna give the best skaters that win everything the "nyjah treatment'. nobody complained about nyjahs style until he started winning every single contest and people got sick of it. how do you hate on someone that is one of the best skaters on the planet and checks off every box? say their style looks robotic LMAO
not sure if you realize this - it's a contest run. The whole point of a contest run is to do as many high level tricks as possible. If you still feel that way when you watch his april or spitfire part then you just don't know skateboarding.
His style is also very apparent in his runs, has both a unique and technical (who is doing nollie 270 blunts?) trick selection w/ good body control and arm steeze LOL
If you want hollow soulless skateboarding watch Jagger. Yuto is so smooth he makes everything look incredibly easy.
This 'style and soul thing'... this is the epitome of style and soul. When you are locked in and make everything look easy, especially extremely difficult tricks that other pros aren't doing, that is reaching a zen-like state that the casual observer cannot sense... the struggle.. What you want is sketch, not true style/soul

It was a crazy run but yeah, I hate how it's all just rails and a tre flip. 2 flip tricks out of all those tricks is wild to me. Like he does tons of insane tricks, but a huge portion of them are just grinds with nollie backside variations and it grows sort of stale. Still an incredible skater, but entertainment value-wise I'd take watching a "boring" guy like Westgate, David Gonzalez, or Sheckler than this style of skating. Although Sheckler in contests was also pretty stale as far as trick selection went, but he would HUCK some huge flip tricks.
Yuto has his own style, nothing wrong with it, sheckler was known for hucking stuff, which for me I prefer tech stuff personally, to each their own, but not one is better than another@@173jaSon371

i thought joslin deserved 2nd place for sure. but yutos last 2 tricks were so fucked up lol. especially that trick he did on the big quarter/wall thing. joslin is stuck in contest purgatory for the way he skates. for some reason doing flip tricks on gaps never gets the high scores that it should. same thing happens in street league too. all contests nowadays are so heavily based on rail tricks its kinda weird. i think flipping down gaps is a much bigger risk and should be rewarded

@@iamkool12342 So accurate. Although I feel as though it has always been that way. Mikey Taylor made an entire career off of doing nollie front feebles and nosegrinds on rails lol. Lutzka made a whole career off of 270 blunt/noseblunt/boardslide/lipslide variations. Malto pretty much did that too in contests.
