Yeah, no injuries. This was a controlled avalanche, so the slopes below were closed. The guys running ahead of the cloud below the avalanche were coming across the trail below where the snow stopped.
I used to work at Alta Central, communications center for avalanche control in 1978 ... and know they have improved this work lots since then ... so looked a bit shocking ... as in nature, no 100% guarantee “safe” not matter how great the control work gets
I am a skier and a snowboarder and the fact that alta doesnt have snowboarders makes it one of if not the best resorts. snowboarders require tracks that are different for skiers, and vice versa. skiers will mess up the tracks for snowboarding, and snowboarders will mess up the tracks for skiiers. and lets be honest, snowboarders take up more room and are mostly obnoxious teenagers that like to spook relaxing skiers.
i was with you till you said "and lets be honest, snowboarders take up more room and are mostly obnoxious teenagers that like to spook relaxing skiers. ". that makes no sense. we're not mostly teenagers. i do get the tracks tho. thats why i like brighton so much, its more of a boarders mountain.
man I wish I would've been there. That's huge why the heck were there guys anywhere below that thing when they set it off? I hope one of those goes accross the road this year so we get snowed in. tha'd be sweet!
I am not a hater of boarders as I went to Jackson a few ago with a friend who rides, its just there constant jumping all over the hill.... like on cat tracks and such, one hit me so hard he destroyed my high end markers, he was sorry I was standing at a Slow sign, my 7 year old was also hit next to a slow ski sign by some ass who was riding like he was in the X games, this seems to be an issue more early season and on blue and green trails On the steeps and bumps I never have an issue ,
@ericlhudson If you want to see Alta it's easy hike to the top of Wolverine Bowl from Brighton. You can even drop in. No amount of ski patrol could stop me. I would shove his ski pull, up his ass, if he got in front of me. Alta only exist because Utah has ten resorts with in a hour. If Alta was not so close to the Bird they too would allow snowboarding. I think Alta was the first to allow it on their lifts in Utah.
This has been my fav place to ski.
