Toni you are a born teacher. You have excellent voice quality, you speak confidently, smooth, not choppy and rushed. You know your stuff and you have a unique way of explaining the intended lesson...thank you!

Toni, thank you for this great video. You are a great teacher. I am handicapped. I have no fine motor skills on my right hand due to a stroke. I can still crochet, but I had to change the process to make it possible with my right hand. I still right handed crochet, but I make my left hand do all the work while my right hand simply holds the hook still in my fist. I have been thinking about trying Tunisian crochet and just bought a set of hooks. I didn't know about the Tunisian knit stitch. It is beautiful and looks like knitting. I am going to go back and watch your videos to learn the basics and different stitches. I am then going to make some scarfs with the Tunisian knit stitch. I want to make some wash clothes also, but will not be able to do the honeycomb stitch after all. I made many afghans over the years, but now I prefer smaller projects that are easier to complete. I no longer have the speed I used to have.

I am a crocheter of 30 + years and this style of crocheting has stumped me for about 2 years now until I came upon your video Toni you are awesome I finally got it and look forward to doing the other Tunisian patterns. You are a awesome teacher.😊

I stopped crocheting about 25 years ago (I’m 70 now) because 1 i made afghans for every living family member and 2 I moved to Florida where it was too hot to crochet. I was looking for something small to make, to avoid it being too hot. And I found you!!! WOW, crocheting sure has changed since my younger days and I think the obsession has returned. You’re making it FUN again. Thank you so much for your videos.

WOW! My favorite crochet narrator - "Mikey" - finally has competition in my book! You speak so clearly, go at a good pace for experienced and new Tunisian crocheters, and have a very pleasant voice and manner. Thank you SO MUCH for your "extra" efforts (reminders on # of stitches, nails, great camera angle and clarity, color choices, etc.) to make this an outstanding video. I need to go look up more of your videos now,. LOL

Omg! I thought the same thing. Mikey has taught me for several years now, and I love his crochet alongs. But Toni has taken his place for a moment with all her great videos. Mikey will always be my no.1 but Ms. Toni is No.1a 😆 I have lost sleep for the pass couple of nights just viewing (not even crocheting) her awesome videos. Happy crocheting! 😊

I agree, as well. I love Mikey. He is wonderful. But Toni is ALSO great! She is good at narrating her work and, like Mikey, she EXPLAINS the overall concept of each stitch. That is so important to me-- I need to understand why I'm doing what I'm doing, i.e., that this will become that as you work it. She's also great at giving pointers and tips. She's my Tunisian Crochet Guru! Keep it up, Toni! You go, girl!

Thank you for being such a wonderful teacher. At my age (79) I am always looking for new skills to learn in the hope that a busy brain is a happy brain. You have given me the gift of using my hands and brain to make beautiful fabric. I have always been a knitter but lately I have turned away from knitting, A mistake once found means removing rows of work to correct the oops. With the Tunisian crochet working back is much easier, pull out a few rows and your stitches are easier to retrieve. Thanks again, the good Lord as sent me an Angel.

Great teacher. . I learned how to crochet from my friends mom in the early 90s but hadnt done it in nearly 3 decades. Now im halfway finished with a full sized Tunisian crochet blanket thanks to you. So...Thank you. Youre awesome

    • @historianKelly
      @historianKelly หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You're not alone!
I'm a historian, so I'm constantly thinking about the origins of things.
"How did we get to this?" often goes through my mind as I learn these intricate crafts.
Many predate writing! Which makes them "prehistoric." I think this about intricate cooking recipes, also - how did someone come up with this idea? What led them to these skills? I wish I could go back in time & be an observer as early people begin to make fibers & the tools for working them.
While modern inventors are extremely admirable, I feel it takes an extraordinary intellect to begin developing these methods out of nothing, no precedent.
So no, you aren't alone, I wonder about the invention of these methods & materials & tools all the time. I'm glad I'm not the only one!

I'm so glad I found your channel! Like all the comments, you are a wonderful teacher. I've been crocheting for decades, then a few years ago learned how to make tatted lace, earlier this year my hands hurt too much so started using a knitting machine and now on to this! I usually am a tight tension type so it's a bit difficult but because my hands have been having issues lately this definitely is what I needed. Thank you so much for taking the time to record, edit and post these amazing videos. You are amazing and very much appreciated!

Toni, Thank you so much for your easy explanations of these stitches! I have a Tunisian crochet dictionary - which I love because it shows all the beautiful stitches - but it is lacking in the detailed step by step instructions. I am so grateful for your channel!
I did get your book, " The Tunisian Crochet Handbook" and am excited to try the projects! For now, I am practicing the stitches and my tension (which is much more challenging for me to maintain with Tunision crochet!) I'm making soap sacks for charity - a multiple advantage of helping others, practicing stiches and tension, and trying out different cotton/cotton blend yarns.
Thank you, again. I have learned so much from you!

Who was the original creator? The trial and error that must have gone in to creating original stitches for all needle crafts! I’m so grateful to all those who have gone before us, who make our lives easier and more beautiful.

I am making comments as I am watching so I don't forget what I want to say! The knit stitch is so lovely and don't have to wory about dropping all your stitches if the cat gets it! One hook, not two or more needles lol as long as you finish for the night with one loop you are good without losing anything. I usually take a break from my project buy making a long chain that I can undo when ready to start again!

I watched this video to find out how to finish in the round rows and how to change colors on these projects. Besides learning these things, I got a lot more valuable information. My grandmother taught me how to do a chain stitch when I was 8 years old or so. Therefore, since I have started crocheting again almost 50 years later I am self or TH-cam taught, haha! I agree with Sherri that your clear speaking, good pace and thorough explanation are A++. Thank you, I will be watching this video again to refresh my memory on your tips.

Tunisian crochet is so much easier than regular crochet in language and movement. I love that one of the stitches look like a stockinette stitch in knitting. Several years ago, I crocheted a fingerless pair of gloves. It turned out so well that I didn't want to give it away. I promised and finally gave them away sadly. My friend loved the gift, but perhaps, didn't realize how much love I gave them. Thanks for this second refresher video---I might crochet my queen-size blanket in the honey-comb Tunisian stitch! I might do it in squares and stitch them together for project management reasons.

Took me about 5 hours to get through this video, but it was 5 hours well spent! Lol I learned how to knit first, but the Tunisian crochet may have just converted me!!! It's kinda like the best of both worlds, the way the yarn is gathered on your hook. And learning to hold the yarn in my left hand, as well as learning to purl while crocheting has actually helped me learn the continental knitting style which is much faster! So glad I found Toni, she's the best teacher for sure!

with a TBI I LOVE how slow you explain each stitch, thank you! now I want to go buy a tunisian crochet cook and try these stitches, I HAD a hook but when I tried before I kept messing up and gave up and put it somewhere in my apt lmao now I can't find where I put it where I wouldn't lose it...I have a upcoming almost 18 hour flight in September of this year, for a total of around 36 hours total for there and back, you have given me something to do while up in the air, plus your voice is so calming which I also love, as I suffer from severe anxiety....also with ADHD and Bi-Polar, it's hard for me to learn new things with a TBI too, but with the way you slowly explain each stitch, gives me enough confidence to once again try and this time I think I can get it right!, I will be saving this video to my favorites and to my watch again later, files on my channel....thanks once again

I am 69 years young and recently decided to learn new ways (stitches) to knit and crochet. Tunisian has definitely taken over for me. Do you teach brioch knit? There are many videos on it but you are such a superior instructor I would love to see how you would teach it. I am new to TH-cam so I hope I do not lose your videos. I have also subscribed so hopefully I won't lose you. Keep up the good work. It is greatly appreciated!

Hello Toni, thank you for your channel. You are a born teacher and you have lead me to try different crochet stitches, however, the Tunisian stitch is my favourite. Thank you and greetings from Australia

You are a natural born teacher! I love your tone and your gentle manner. I think I may try making a lot of swatches of each of the stitches and sew together for a lap blanket. I guess I will have to block the squares that tend to curl after each wash, but I think it will be worth it.

My next door neighbor taught me to knit, she didn't know how to crochet, so I learned from the Coat's and Clark book entitled Knitting, Crochet, Embroidery and Tatting. When I started crocheting and Tunisian crochet, I don't know if they had all of these beautiful stitches back in the 60's. There weren't any yarn and craft stores in our local area. Just Woolworths way back then. Then Kmart moved in to one of the shopping centers in the late 70s. That was it. If there were yarn stores around, I didn't know about them. All I had was that one book to teach me and books from the library on Knitting and Crocheting. It is so much better these days with YT videos, I had no one to help me and tell me I was doing anything wrong or show me better ways to do something. Even the stores had limited books, I had to join a book club to buy books on crochet and knitting. The library was the best source of books. They had a set called Golden Hands, edited by ladies who knew their crafts, one had even tried glass blowing! The only problem was that I couldn't keep the books out permanently! I'm a bibliophile too. I love yarn crafts, if I could have sheep and spin my own yarn I would. I love your videos, thank you for showing more variety of Tunisian crochet stitches than I knew before. Merry Christmas and God bless you and your family.

Toni, I just found your videos yesterday and I am watching them one-after-another. They are fantastic. I am a crocheter, and received a set of Tunisian hooks as a gift some years ago and never used them. I made a swatch from cotton yarn as I watched your first Tunisian tutorial. and now I have a lovely coaster for my morning coffee. You make this so easy and so much fun. Thank you so much! I can't wait to watch all your videos.

Your explanation of the gobelin stitch is SO much more clear than the instructions at PurlSoho. Thank you very much for this video. I feel like I understand tunisian crochet a lot better now that I've watched a few of your videos. I especially appreciate you explaining why one does certain things because if you make mistakes, like I often do, you really must know why you made those mistakes in order to correct yourself.

You are a lifesaver! I have begun working on a scarf which has a section of lattice stitch. I could not understand the instructions that were given in the pattern. Your calm and clear demonstration has me back on track. Thank you!

The honeycomb stich is my favorite! No curling issues and it looks like a complicated stich with minimal effort.

I absolutely love your tutorials. Not only are your patterns delightful, but the instructions are clear and easy to follow with no loud parasitic music to distract us.
I'm a fairly experienced crocheter and do well with more complicated patterns, as long as I'm working rounds or lace. I've been crocheting for more than 15 years now, but I could never manage to learn how to crochet straight or regular edges for more than twenty rows. 😂 I want to learn Tunisian crochet because the multitude of patterns is absolutely intriguing. But somehow, every time I tried it, the way of crocheting makes it so I don't stupidly add or miss stitches and end up with an ugly trapezoid instead of a square.
I'll try following your tutorials and make blankets for my cats or something, see how it turns out. :D Thank you for being such a great instructor! Your videos are always very inspiring ❤

I have recently taken to Tunisian crochet again after 40 years! Done a LOT of both knitting and crochet. Picking up the Afghan hook (I was taught it as Afthan crochet with hooks of the same name) is a delightful, yet a bit cumbersom to get used to since I do not Knife hold my crochet hook. Thank you for such wonderful videos I have been perusing the last couple of days. Your calm, delightful teaching method is absolutely wonderful! I am working on a sampler blanket as I write this!

Ran across this video while searching for clues trying to remember the method that I used for an afghan I made in the late '70s. You are the best teacher I've seen on TH-cam and I've watched a ton of them. I can clearly see why you have 511k subscribers! You just gained another one.

I've recently seen a handful of random videos that use Tunisian stitches but without words I was stumped ans intrigued at the same time. I hit up TH-cam and yours was the first video I came across.....I love that you explain what you are going to do then explain again as you do it, made it simple enough to follow along with you while working the stitches myself.
