On supergluing cuts: that is exactly what superglue was invented for. It's an invention from the vietnam war to quickly close wounds on the battlefield to prevent infection until wounded soldiers could get to a medical facility for more permanent treatment. Which is also exactly why anytime you use superglue it seems to want to glue your fingers together more than anything else.
It was invented in the 40's and the re-invented later in the 50's but not specifically for medical use. Another example of aiming for a specific purpose (in this case they were trying to create a clear plastic for gun sights) and ending up with something unexpected that eventually turns out to be very useful. Like the glue used on post-it notes.
8:05 About the superglue: "Some rock climbers use cyanoacrylate to repair damage to the skin on their fingertips. Similarly, stringed-instrument players can form protective finger caps (typically, when they lose their calluses due to inactivity or accidents) with cyanoacrylates. While the glue is not very toxic and wears off quickly with shed skin, applying large quantities of glue and its fumes directly to the skin can cause chemical burns." From: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyanoacrylate#Medical_and_veterinary
to be honest, hospitals do use a form of cyanoacrylate for cuts that are too small to be stitched but too deep to have a bandaid on. superglue can be used, but not excessively
I heard that superglue was originally intended/created for quick stitch-ups out in the battlefield... i use it (sparingly) on cuts all the time, and my brother patches up his dog when she snags herself on fences or branches... stays on just long enough for the skin to hold itself together...
@@jeffreyliang2780 they do, it is just a different chemical compound, so after polymerization it does not give off acetic acid (vinegar) that could cause irritation and the described chemical burns. In a pinch the "normal" super glue does the trick
In Wilderness First Responder courses the superglue thing is covered (in the text if not in the practicals). In short: a little goes a long way and don't do anything dumb (like actually glue a wound shut, preventing drainage). There's more details than that, get training from a professional.
"Hadn't seen it since last time there" - could have seen pictures since, but hadn't, it was a fine english clarifying sentence, he just didn't sound sure when he said it.
"I don't even know why I'm trying to give advise" I get the sentiment, but it's super useful; Marte is the voice of the viewer - I was thinking exactly the same thing ("Why didn't he put his foot up?"), and by voicing it we get a nice explanation. Keep it up Marte!
Superglue was invited for closing wounds. The idea is to push the cut together and put it on the outside to hold the skin together. Don't put it in the wound or it will actually prevent the wound from healing by putting a barrier between the two sides of the cut. Hope that makes sense.
Hey Magnus, I've got an idea for one of your next videos. Go to a moonboard and do a benchmark problem (e.g. most repeated one or best rated) for each grade from 6a+ over 6b, 6b+ etc as far as you can get. 3 tries per problem or something. I really like to see you try hard and we could check out how we are doing on the same problems.
You can rent out the offices for companies to hold meetings there. Would make a cool sales team meeting venue. And I keep super glue in all my work trucks for that reason
If you have any spots within an hour and a half or less from your house its definitely worth going outside sometime. You get the try hard bug and start moving up the grades (which are way different). Strength matters which is fantastic and pushes you into wanting to train and exercise more/harder. Im pretty much an indoor climber exclusively too but ive done a handful of outdoor rounds this past month or so and they have felt incredible. Projects never disappear! :)
Super glue is pretty safe to use for small cuts since it creates a perfect seal over the cut the way a scab would. It's a pretty common first aid secret tech
