Thanks for all the work putting this together. Very interesting but not that surprising really. Wouldn't worry about the voice thing, just be glad you don't have some whiny valley girl voice. That would be an issue... LOL🤣
Your voice is awesome and recognizable, familiar stranger :) I find the coating on the newer 12 speed group-sets is far inferior than the older 11speed group-sets. All my 12 speed cranks and components look so beaten up after less than a year of riding with it, compared with years of riding with the 11speed stuff, which still looks great.
Or a better wheelset by the price difference, also selling that crankset and cassett for Rotor ones, will end up going to close down the weight diference, 250 gr is easy to cut on that ultegra grupo
My bike doesn't drink coffee or eat muffins, so not an option. It does have a chain wax drinking problem that's costing me a fortune. Fortunately, chain wax doesn't lead to weight gain.🤣
Great video! I’ve rode both groupsets and only prefer the Dura-Ace over the Ultegra because of the esthetics of it with the gloss black finish. But performance wise, they are identical in shifting speed and feel. You can easily save 200 grams by simply switching from butyl tubes to TPU tubes. Or upgrading other components for that $1,600 price difference. But it really just comes down to personal preference.
I've gone for 105 Di2 derailleurs, calipers, cassette and chain paired with Ultegra cranks and shifters. Might have to go with ultegra front derailleur in future because it (and DA) will support the new Ultegra (and DA) 46/36 chainring combo. This really is a sweet chainring combination for the modern all-road bike, paired with the 105 series 11-36 cassette.
Buy Ultegra di2 without crankset. Use the difference to buy nicer carbon power meter crankset. And it will still be cheaper than buying full Dura Ace groupset. And much better crankset. Weight might be lighter also. Or use the price difference to buy very very nice wheelset!
Most people should stop caring about bike weight and be more concerned about rider weight. Unless you are in top shape and racing, counting grams is INSANE.
And most people should stop thinking that bike weight is irrelevant. Losing bike weight is just a simple matter of paying money. Losing rider weight takes so much more effort. It’s smarter to just pay 3k and lose 300g, than suffer 30 salads just to lose 30g. plus, your bike looks better, which is what matters anyway. Not as if you’re some TDF rider. Pretending to care about rider performance is stupid when anyone not a TDF rider is just a pretend pro anyway lol.
105 Di2 for me. I’m only cycling for additional training for my legs, my main sports are boxing and MMA though now it’s becoming a hobby since I can’t make enough money compare to the businesses my parents have. 😅
Hey gc performance loves the videos. Keep up the awesome work. I’m looking at upgrading my RA thousand on my 2019 specialised tarmac expert to the new Ultegra 8100. Just wondering if there’s anything special I need for the battery for the seat tube keep up the great work.
This was a great comparison! I live in Australia and the price difference between a complete bike with either Ultegra or Dura Ace is roughly $5000 AUD/$3325 USD. So the weight savings of 261g isn't worth it to me. This video has helped me make the cheaper decision haha. Thanks
yes I was thinking of waiting for the new sram red to come out before hand but Ih ad a lot of people ask fo rthis, so next time i get a sram red kit in stock it is coming up
You r my guru!!!🙏 Dumb question here maybe, I have Ultegra 12sp and love it but really don’t like the look of the cranks. I love the look of GRX cranks tho (very mountain bikie lol). Would the new GRX 8200 2X crank for 12sp work with my Ultegra 12sp Di2 system? Thx in advance Jon🇨🇦
Ultegra for better value. Thanks. Bye. (Having said that I've never owned ultegra stuff, always went for dura ace. I'd get 105 for value. But value is not what I've been chasing)
Is it possible to upgrade from Ultegra brake callipers to dura ace callipers? Are the DA compatible with the rest of the Ultegra components? I mean 230€ for 50 grams saving sounds interesting.
The US dollar is very strong at present against the Yen and Euro. To save money, with small risk, buy online from Japan or European online retailers. I bought 12 speed Ultegra from alexcycle for $1500 with no issues.
Suprised such a big difference with the brakes. Same weigh difference as the cassette (60g) Wonder where the weight saving materiel is there? magnesium/titanium?
My 2022 ultegra 36/52 chainset is lighter than my new 12 speed Dura Ace 40/54 chainset. I know the DA has slightly larger sprockets but I didn't expect that!
What do you think of an SL6 S-works with DA Di2 when compared to the expert SL8 with Ultegra Di2? The older Tarmac is twice as cheap (used). Is it worth it?
@@GCPerformance18 great thanks. Nothing to be sorry about. Just an observation as I was going back and forth to check the differences. Anyways. I want to have a video on installation of a integrated handlebar like Vision Metron with both Hydraulic and mechanical gears like Ultegra R8000. Please share if you have something like that.
When we start to call high-end products like Ultegra and Force not longer a „mid tier“ groupset… these are so pro level with a touch more robustness imho. But less glitter shmidder to pay for.
I have an Ultegra 12 speed on my Cervelo S5. Full dura ace 12 speed on my Tarmac SL7. Aside from its weight, there is definitely a noticeable differences in the drive train smoothness and shifting efficiency. I upgraded my S5 to a DA cassette and chain, feels extremely smooth. I also changed the Rotor to XTR as the stock Ultegra ones make your bike look cheap.
I need those better gears. My new LandRider AutoShift wont let me choose my desired cadence. As soon as I try to raise my cadence the damn thing shifts up another gear.
I would love for you to show what the looks difference of the 9000 11 speed Dura Ace replacement would look like. Hambini stated it would look terrible…Just wondering if someone who’ll show us.
I got Ultegra men's edition, I couldn't bring myself to waste $1,000 for the millennials groupset edition, a.k.a. "electronic & disc" and technically speaking, Dura Ace is for the ones that like to have nice things regardless of "price".
@@thedownunderverse idk man, I got mtb rotors on my 23kg e bike going true no issues and my new latest model ultegra only done 500km and warped :( I'm too scared to bend it back as I heard they are quite delicate so I'm just putting up with constant rubbing and grinding when it's rainy. Challenge: mix and match 105 and Dura Ace components then compare the price and weight to a full Ultegra groupset.
super hard, I think shifters and brakes alone for dura are like 700 a piece

Ultegra build with Dura-Ace chain and cassette. Perfect combo?
Yeap I did that. Smoother as hell
Yeah, I did the same at my Ultegra di2. Switched to Dura ace cassette and chain. I saved 97 grams for 300€.
I think Ultegra is the better value groupset however if you want the absolute best and has the dough to splurge then Dura Ace is the way to go.
Love those comparisons!
glad u enjoyed
Great vid thank you! Ultegra for the win. Put on a Dura Ace cassette and chain, put the rest of the money into an awesome set of wheels.
there we go that is a nice combo

Great vid! Hopefully the new SRAM Red comes out soon, when that happens could you do the New Force vs New Red?
Thats what I am hoping for I have a feeling sram red wil be lighter then dura ace
0:28 Hmm🤔🤨 Black and White checkered floor? Freemason Bike Shop!
hahahah I wish, they I would have so much moneyyyyyy
Good idea for a video. It’s good to get a rider/bike mech/bike vendor analysis cause you can integrate all these different perspectives.
Not too sure on Shimano as of yet - still waiting on the recall inspections on two of my current cranksets.
Can you do a SRAM Force vs Red version of this? Loved the breakdown
yes I was thinking of waiting for the new sram red to come out before hand but Ih ad a lot of people ask fo rthis, so next time i get a sram red kit in stock it is coming up
i'd almost be inclined to mix a few 105 components in there too. the cassette is the real boat anchor in that group.
I’ve done this just because the rd isn’t where the faster shifting comes from. It’s in the FD.
The 105 rear derailleur for sure. It's waaaaay cheaper, just as fast and supports the 11-36 cassette.
My 105 11-28 cassette weighs just 17 grams more than Ultegra but it’s less than half the price.
And more durable too. Same with the cranks, 105 series won't delaminate like 8k&9k series.
My AliExpress 10 speed cassette is lighter than Tiagra for half the price, and it works the same
You r my guru!!!🙏 Dumb question here maybe, I have Ultegra 12sp and love it but really don’t like the look of the cranks.

Ultegra for better value. Thanks. Bye.

Coming from 105, is a DA cassette upgrade really a no brainer? If I don't care too much for weight will it really provide a better ride experience?
Is it possible to upgrade from Ultegra brake callipers to dura ace callipers? Are the DA compatible with the rest of the Ultegra components? I mean 230€ for 50 grams saving sounds interesting.
yes they will work

that is always an op set up, even the ultgra groups with the dura ace cranks
The US dollar is very strong at present against the Yen and Euro. To save money, with small risk, buy online from Japan or European online retailers. I bought 12 speed Ultegra from alexcycle for $1500 with no issues.
Not sure about Yen, but Euro still stronger than dollar. I found out the hard way spending €5000 recently , cost me $450 more☹️
Is Alexcycle legit? The site seems alittle wonky

Could you do a SRAM version of this. I’d like to see the differences between Red and Force.
yes of course, the new stuff?
I am now gonna get a dura ace chain because that’s all I can afford.. and yes I enjoyed this video 😊
What do you think of an SL6 S-works with DA Di2 when compared to the expert SL8 with Ultegra Di2? The older Tarmac is twice as cheap (used). Is it worth it?
Im thinking Dura ace rotors/calipers/cassette, Ultegra controls/ derailleurs & Rotor carbon crankset (with power meter) 🤩
yes mix and match

Go for a Rotor Aero Crankset and powermeter, lighter and a more accurate power meter
Best to use a narrow wide chainring for 1x

really? I didnt even know that to be honest

I swear Shimano have made the Ultegra crankset dull on purpose… also SRAM RED Crankset do much lighter than DA!!
lmao I know for the reaosn to make people buy the bigger one, but the ultegra goes nice with matte frames
Shimano 105 is the best value.
Pros don't care about component weight. They have to add weights to their bikes to hit the 6.8kg weight minimum.
this was true now I feel like the struggle now to get there

yep same here
It's a shame ultegra doesn't come with 54/40 especially when you're not a pro but still race competitive
A Shame indeed. You have to Frankenstein your crankset with aftermarket chainrings!
You can replace chainrings with with DA 54/40 of course.
Use DA chainrings
In my place we can buy groupsets without cranksets. That way we are free to choose what crankset is o install.
Out of reach prices, few can afford
Ultegra cassette lasts longer than DA.
this is always the case for the more epxensive lighter materials they ware faster
1.700 kg. Sram Red 10 vel mechanical. $ 400 complete groupset XD you are welcome !
hahaha this is true
Should have weighted each piece by direct comparison - cassette ultregra vs cassette dura ace, etc.
dang I am sorry, next time
