The fighting sword lost probably mostly because the guard wasn’t profiled enough to make it as powerful in the hand. Wayne played the game and built a sword to win the competition and take the abuse. The right guy won the game, because he played it exactly as the rules allowed while the other guy played the spirit of the game and correctly lost.
I love the healthy competition in this show. The contestants always seem supportive of each other and never salty, and the judges aren't cruel or belittling.
Spoiler alert….!! The pirate dude enjoyed the whole process of making the blade and he was happy while testing the blade and happier when he won. He's the absolute winner...
I would hate to meet Doug on the battlefield, I wouldn't even have a chance to cross swords before he ripped me apart, followed by an "It will keeeeel"
yet his technique with stuff bigger than knives is kinda sucky (at least in what he presents in this show). Of course he would be very dangerous to untrained opponent, but if it was a sword fight and his opponent had some knowledge of distance, range and some basic attack and parry techniqes it would be a fair match.
Heavy means stronger and means it will be harder to slow down the swing therefore making easier to go through your target while marking it hard to control. Control is not really needed though as they are hitting motionless things and care more about strength and power
@@moralsupport9369 while the heavier blade was certainly more durable and of better quality, historically falchions were quite light with large but thin blades. This is why more ordinary people of the time in Germany and Eastern Europe preferred it to other double edged blades. Additionally, the falchion was far superior in cutting through cloth, leather, and weaker chain mail armor, compared to straight swords which could handle more durable plate armor as it was introduced.
This episode has to be my favourite episode from forged in fire, ever. This is what I admire about this episode, Wayne made a full Damascus blade, made a song about it, and his blade performed very well in all the tests.
The thing I love about shows like these is when there's really good sportsmanship from the competitors. When they're out there enjoying their craft/work and just trying to put out their best, we see some really cool results, and it's especially nice when the competitors respect each others' efforts
Lmao I just posted this comment as a reply to someone above: “That dude is more Pensacola than Pensacola itself. If Brett Michaels was in a rock band called Blackbeard’s Revenge and threw fake doubloons into the crowd after every show.....and by “crowd” I mean the drunk leathernecks at the pier bars.”
Mark made a great weapon. I am super impressed with how his blade pierced the chain mail with those stabs. Shame he didn't get the guard right but he will learn so much from this. Also, 4 days is very short.
Wayne: "You can tell your grandchildren that this was the day You almost beat Capt. Jack Sparrow on Forged in Fire." Mark: " I thought your name was Wayne." Wayne: "Queue my Music!" Pirates theme starts to play.
What I have to say I like about contestants even if they lose is that they know they learned so much and it will help them a lot later on. Best thing you can do is learn from it and the guy that lost definitely is gonna do better you can tell
When see swords like Wayne's in this show you automatically know who's gonna win. Seriously his falchion is so finished and refined you have to wonder why they bothered testing at all
One thing that always makes me laugh is when they beat the blades on steel or stone then say, "hmm it has a bit of rounding on the edge" as if it's not supposed to happen.
Nah, I wouldn't say he's emo. He looks more along the lines of an "alternative" style. Google "emo" or "scene kids" and that will give you a good idea of what emo looks like. Emos (and to a lesser extent, goths) are kind of a dying breed nowadays.
Alfonso Alonzo the machete looking one is how it is normally presented I’m sure the other one technically counted as one or they wouldn’t have tested it but the machete looking one is what I normally see as a falchion
@@jacobpatterson1091 im going off of what ive seen others make who've researched heavily, lightly and in one case went to museum in britian to look af originals (and honestly) mainly google lol and there all diffrently shaped but share a well thinnness throughout the blade that the machete was lacking and was fat throughout and that to me makes it lean more towards not a falcion in my thinking
Jacob Patterson Yes you are right. Falchions came have a lot of different blade shapes and that is one of them. The main thing that makes a falchion is that it only has one edge on the blade with a typical European hilt construction.
I noticed that, too. He hit the tied part (which could be wire or a stout rope). With the other guy's blade he hit squarely on the bag. 100% operator error.
That doesn't seem to be what was held against him. He did point out that when it did hit the bag part that the blade hit a very small dull spot from the sharpness test but I don't think the judges used that against him.
My son is special needs and he really likes this show and swords he would like for them to make tridents, Chinese tiger forks, 2 tine, 3 tine, and 5 tine pitchforks.
1) this weapon was not to defeat mail, but Gambesson. It probably has enough impact to break a bone under mail, except it is padded well by a Gambesson. 2) the blades were machete thin at the business end, but the spine and the lower part was significantly thicker to make it more durable and give it a better weight distribution. 3) these blades are not that top heavy. They are not like an axe. It's more like that the same area of a cross section remains throughout the blade, but the blade becomes both vider and thinner. This and adding a sizeable pommel make it feel like a regular sword, albeit like a big sword, while being small.
