I am from York, United Kingdom, and born profoundly deaf and amazing in sport during my hobbies. I am always obsessed to join in the army for my honour since when I was four years old. I tired many jobs such as apprentice joiner, bricklaying, site surveying, waiter staff in racecourse and Marks and Spencer, secret shopper around in Yorkshire, modelling in college and went to cooking school in near Birmingham. None of them got my heart to fixed up. I made a letter for the government about disability discrimination and our army is WHAT is about my heart. They don’t even have a prove why deafness are useless to join in the army and they decide to go for ignorance. It just clipping my wings. Please Keith, keep up with your most impressive work up and hopefully I could move to United State of America to serve your country instead of United Kingdom.
As a cochlear aid hearing implant person, I must say this When I accidentally signed up for Jrotc at the beginning of my freshman year in high school, I was not that interested in joining the military, but as I completed 2 years, my heart was pushing towards joining. Around the end of my 2nd year, I found out that deaf people couldn’t join the military and I was devastated. Back in Nigerian when I lost my hearing during a war (age 7-8), I refused to believe I was actually deaf. My mom took me to sign language school but I refused to learn. I had to train myself to read people lips from a distance, use my body to feel vibrations when I am not wearing my hearing aid, and always make sure that as I sleep, I can feel the movements of everyone feet’s( who is coming in my room.... who is about to touch me to wake up, and so on. I really want to join the military, or CIA, like you said, lots of hearing aid people develop skills that are rarely seen. Currently I moved and I am in AF JROTC , still missing MCJROTC but hey, I hope I can serve
Been Deaf for as long as I can remember. My family did serve in the military. As a child, I made a vow to protect my country soon as I enlist in the military, but people kept telling me it's not possible because I'm Deaf. After graduating high school, my feelings to enlist did not change; I truly wanted to join the Marines with my heart's desires. But they still told me that I couldn't do so. 22 years later, they're making a bit of progress; however, we still need to push for full participation without any restrictions. It's getting tiresome that they are afraid we wouldn't be able to take care of ourselves. We know it's dangerous and we can still train to become good soldiers like those in the past and those who serve in other countries. It's never too late to learn from others to become stronger as "one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
It is so frustrating and sad to learn my son who is permanently deaf in one ear due to an accident when he was younger cannot join the military. His other ear works just fine. He definitely should be able to join. I am glad there are people fighting for this.
Yes I was born with out the ability to hear in my left ear and my right is falling so I have a hearing aid and I am in high school and the military came to see if Anyone was interested and when I told them I needed a hearing aid to hear sometimes they said that I would be disqualified and best not to try to join
He gave us a great PowerPoint explanation on this. He did a LOT of research, and has accrued plentiful evidence to support his belief that Deaf should be allowed to join if they are competent and able. If you want to watch what he said: th-cam.com/video/0Vk80vbsV7o/w-d-xo.html
People in the army also wear glasses. So why can't we wear our hearing aids? They can become blind when chemicals explode in the air. Its just not fair.
AND as being Deaf soldier what can you serve us Americans? Nothinh ! Highest Security number 1 we need hearings not deaf watching over us...NO protection...deaf will always need help and protection once enter Military ...very expensive and high risk....again sorry....too risky and wasteful process...
I understand the risks involved where deaf people probably shouldn’t be the #1 go-to guy when SHTF in occupations like Special Forces, Infantry, Pararescue. But had any military conducted an experiment to test that theory out Shouldn’t the military run some drills to see if deaf people can pull it off? I am a carpenter and I work in a loud environment but I can hear people just fine, I’m 20 years old and I still want to consider this even though there is a barrier in front of me.
@@darylvaughn6533 I have asked and technically no body has the right to join the military. There are standards that you have to meet. Some are physical and some are things like you can’t be a felon. The sooner you accept that the better.
YESSSS DEAF AND HOH SHOULD JOIN MILITARY!!!!!
