As a software Engineer I enjoyed this great conversation, great move by the government but I hope you asked more questions and probably more time. You e-Citizen team plus Treasury team together in one sitting. The best way to weed corruption is not necessarily to jail but to digitize every coin in one platform

Let me help this guy to answer the question of convenience fee.
If one needs to get services at NTSA, Companies Registry etc... you need to prepare from your home, take a matatu to and from the office you want to visit, panga line kuuubwa for several hours, and finally get the service at the rate which it is offered without paying a convenience fee.
CAN YOU NOW EQUATE ALL THAT HUSTLE WITH 50 SHILLINGS????
with the 50 bob, we are now getting services easily and we have more time left to us to do other important things.

Unfortunately, even after paying for the renewal of your driver's license with e-Citizen, you still have to take Matatu, panga line at NTSA for your photo to be taken then report back after two weeks again to pick the DL. Where is the convenience?

I just love how this guy explains these technical details in ease. What I don't quite understand is why everyone is concerned if James is the beneficiary of the "convenience" fee. What if he was? Where is the problem? He is an independent contractor. This is his possibly his brain child which needs compensation.

I like how SpiceFM only brings the most knowledgeable people on issues. Who thought the person to best explain the eCitizen platform is the guy who built it from scratch?
Any other station would most likely bring some politician who knows nothing about the technology but is there to sing the govt's praises.

@@chrisngash9338 So, you're suggesting that you wouldn't expect Bill Gates to criticize his own government/institution, or any other government/institution for that matter, because after all most of their computers run on Windows (his creation)?
I have no problem with Ayugi's product, I have a problem with how and for what purpose it is being used. To be fair to him, he shouldn't be taking queries regarding how the government plans to use it, but if he's going to take the queries he should be objective since we're no longer discussing the features of his product.

He is getting his knickers in a twist over the fee. It’s not in his place to answer why the govt is charging the fee if all the money collected is going to the treasury. Only the treasury can answer that. As a service provider to govt who is paid by govt, I don’t care how much the govt charges its customers/citizens, ask the govt.

Why is it the mwanainchi problem if government not able to meet its operational costs when he/she is taxed? This explanation that government needs to operate does not justify this extra cost (50/-) its just mismanagement of government functions and making kenyans suffer through payment. They know if kenyans don't pay they will not get service needed and have no choice - stealing through the back door, in my opinion!!!!!!!!

I disagree with the Convenience Fee narrative. Government should serve cost to cost and not to profiteer on its citizens. Much less if the technology has made service budget cheaper. They are already paying taxes.
