As a software Engineer I enjoyed this great conversation, great move by the government but I hope you asked more questions and probably more time. You e-Citizen team plus Treasury team together in one sitting. The best way to weed corruption is not necessarily to jail but to digitize every coin in one platform
Let me help this guy to answer the question of convenience fee. If one needs to get services at NTSA, Companies Registry etc... you need to prepare from your home, take a matatu to and from the office you want to visit, panga line kuuubwa for several hours, and finally get the service at the rate which it is offered without paying a convenience fee. CAN YOU NOW EQUATE ALL THAT HUSTLE WITH 50 SHILLINGS???? with the 50 bob, we are now getting services easily and we have more time left to us to do other important things.
Someone reading this without watching the video would think you have provided something groundbreaking that the guy in the video has not explained. Your narrative is just redundant.
Unfortunately, even after paying for the renewal of your driver's license with e-Citizen, you still have to take Matatu, panga line at NTSA for your photo to be taken then report back after two weeks again to pick the DL. Where is the convenience?
I just love how this guy explains these technical details in ease. What I don't quite understand is why everyone is concerned if James is the beneficiary of the "convenience" fee. What if he was? Where is the problem? He is an independent contractor. This is his possibly his brain child which needs compensation.
I like how SpiceFM only brings the most knowledgeable people on issues. Who thought the person to best explain the eCitizen platform is the guy who built it from scratch? Any other station would most likely bring some politician who knows nothing about the technology but is there to sing the govt's praises. Keep it up SpiceFM
@@chrisngash9338 So, you're suggesting that you wouldn't expect Bill Gates to criticize his own government/institution, or any other government/institution for that matter, because after all most of their computers run on Windows (his creation)? I have no problem with Ayugi's product, I have a problem with how and for what purpose it is being used. To be fair to him, he shouldn't be taking queries regarding how the government plans to use it, but if he's going to take the queries he should be objective since we're no longer discussing the features of his product.
Well explained and reasonably demistifying the ecitizen platform gray areas and its continue development i really like the eloquency in details explanation.
One thing for sure is that government is merciless to it's own citizens, it's just a fact because they know you have no options, you can imagine how much they make on convinience fee alone then taxes?

What if the Taxpayer wants some convenience and is willing to pay for it, for instance, if passport processing takes 2 weeks, but you are offered express services at a fee to get your passport in 3 days, I Think citizens would still have the choice, pay convenience fee of stay on the painful path
Hiyo no WIZI...ata Kwa platforms...Kenya Ni WiZI...WIZI...WIZI...WIZI...WIZI..WIZI...why should the government be paid money through convenience fee when are already paying taxes
The mindset of getting things for free, are you factoring in the money and time one wasted going into these government offices? What's that compared to a mere 50 shillings?
Of course you don't understand the overheads that go into the technical operations only. Its not by magic that these systems work you know. Thats like replacing a donkey with a car, and complain about service charges😅
The analogy of Akamba courieur and MPESA is ridiculous.. the mpesa fee or charge on the courier is the cost of the service. Akamba did not and MPESA does not charge an additional "convenience" fee.
He is getting his knickers in a twist over the fee. It’s not in his place to answer why the govt is charging the fee if all the money collected is going to the treasury. Only the treasury can answer that. As a service provider to govt who is paid by govt, I don’t care how much the govt charges its customers/citizens, ask the govt.
The reason he's explaining is because he get's a cut. Even the Auditor general said this vendor has not given the govt full control of the system and they didn't the AG the Service agreement. Sounds like the secrecy in the SGR agreement🤣
Why would he be back to the same show with no new information, looks like there is powerful people unhappy with his previous presentation who forced him to come back.
James Ayugi should have refused to get involved in the discussion about the convenience fee. That's a matter outside his terms of reference. It is a government policy issue, not a technical implementation question.
Is this fellow serious about the 50bob? So if the government improves my murrum road to tarmac, they should charge me a conviniance fee for having facilitated my ease of movement? Kibandaski should also charge extra for use of spoons..wacha hio bana
Why is it the mwanainchi problem if government not able to meet its operational costs when he/she is taxed? This explanation that government needs to operate does not justify this extra cost (50/-) its just mismanagement of government functions and making kenyans suffer through payment. They know if kenyans don't pay they will not get service needed and have no choice - stealing through the back door, in my opinion!!!!!!!!
I disagree with the Convenience Fee narrative. Government should serve cost to cost and not to profiteer on its citizens. Much less if the technology has made service budget cheaper. They are already paying taxes.
When you talk of offering Govt services..why should a govt charge a convenience fee yet it uses taxpayers money...Govt is not a company for your information
why is he talking on behalf of the government? Is he an insider? I thought he is just a citizen who got lucky to design the eCitizen systems thus he has no authority to explain what happens beyond his system design and maintenance

How safe or how is the eCitizen secured from the cyber krime? coz there are those who can attack the system.

So this convinience fees isn't directly benefitting the 1st family as was bieng cheaply peddled by some on the social media.
