I think William Dafoe got the oscar nod because of his excellent insight on what scripts he would be a part of. I lived in just about every kind of motel like this in every state in the southern hemisphere of the United States as a contract mechanic. This guy Sean got it right on the money and to the heart as a writer/director. Thanks man, I completly understand why Defoe chose to be a part of this project.
I have worked with Sean, and can say he is one of the most notably talented people that I've ever had the pleasure of working with. He is serious about film in the same way that Scorsese and Tarantino is , and it shows!
Here is the thing...the Florida Project allows people to better understand a slice of american proverty-ridden culture. I loved this movie and am reading everything about Sean Baker. Outstanding work.

Excellent job of making us feel real emotions. I laughed and I cried and most importantly this movie lingered in my thoughts.
