Sort of. I think the beacon is meant to indicate that the lone human occupant on the prison ship has lost control of the ship. It seemed like more of a: “all is lost, destroy this vessel to avert greater damage” sort of thing. That said, I strongly suspect it will come out later that Mando contacted the New Republic briefly while in the ship control room. He clearly had more than 20 minutes to hunt all of Ran’s people down and when the X-wings arrive they completely ignore the Razor Crest as if there was an understanding that Mando would lead them to the ‘real’ culprits of the prison break so long as they turned away from him. It is a great deal for the New Republic since they deal with a major criminal syndicate for basically nothing and Mando was never on their radar anyway. But that’s just my theory....
Even these new characters, while low class scum, are an example of something I've said before- probably everyone who wants to be in this would take the gig for travel and/or guild scale, and lunch. They can literally pick almost any actor they want. And that "everyone" is probably every one who hasn't (a) already been in a Star Wars project, (b) hasn't been in the MCU, and (c) has both a SAG membership and a pulse. And the message being sent by not killing these three clowns, and handing the brains and the only escapee to the Republic like this should be interesting. I'd love to find out the official brains on Hosnian Prime are reading the rumors and reports they're getting about his activities.
