This teacher was a very good example of expecting the best from a student regardless of family/social disadvantages. Her classroom management skills are exceptional.
I love this teacher!!! She is what teaching is about, encourages, incorporates vocabulary. For a class with behavior problems, she sure kept class management so seamless that it was not an issue. I am saving this video for my own inspiration.
This was so inspiring! I am in my senior year for K-6th education and 6th grade is what I would prefer. You provided more clarity and instructional approach in this video than I have learned in recent courses. Thank you for your time and opinions!
This was so great! The poems that the 2 students wrote about Aphrodite were amazing! The game of charades was great as well! The teacher gave great positive reinforcement and acknowledgement throughout!
The way the teacher refers to some students as undiagnosed with learning disabilities is unprofessional. It is not up to her to label a student like that only a diagnostician can decide whether or not a student has a disability.
Its clarity to the fact their parents are involved. Disabilities are present in both diagnosed and those who aren't. You must not have a great knowledge on this topic, so maybe you shouldn't disrespect this teacher because she has her students as her primary interest, this every teacher should exhibit.
@@nikiblankenship4787 I have been a teacher the last 6 years and am working on my masters degree in SpEd, so I like to believe that I have decent knowledge on this topic. While she may identify the presence of a disability in her students and working with them in class to help with that undiagnosed disability or bring up to the parents that she has concerns and that is perfectly fine. She could have simply referred to having students with disabilities as a whole and not implied that some students may have a disability when she does not know. The fact is she does not know for certain if they have a disability or not and unless she is a diagnostician with a degree for that specialty she should not comment on it. She had already addressed the idea that some of her students were reading below level that also was enough information for the video. I think that a lot of the other information she gave was useful, the original comment was simply noting a flaw that I noticed.
Yet no one on this video and comment post agrees with you, there are many students that are undiagnosed and as an educator it is our job to recognize, realize and assist those students. she was doing a video interview she did not tell those students to their faces nor did she tell there parents or caregivers that she believed they were undiagnosed, if she had then that would have been unprofessional; however, she stated the obvious so that she could create a plan that fit every need presented in her class. As an educator, you may want to embrace this video and open your mind up to the possibility that you may not be right and that every student has a different learning style and may be susceptible to multiple approaches. You have to be able to realize and admit whenever students whom are undiagnosed or diagnosed issues to deal with. I know, I'm a mother of four one in which has autism ADHD o d d and several learning disorders. we were not privy to half of them until he began school and because of his learning style and inability to be on the level as other students and his teacher's comment I was able to realize that and get him diagnosed. For some students especially those whose parents are uninvolved that may be exactly what they need for the fact that she realized it and was big enough to post it on a video she opened up to help those students who are in school trying to become future Educators, she was trying to help us and her students.
@@nikiblankenship4787 I agree with her, Ms. Kerr’s classroom was very well mannered despite the fact that she was a first-year teacher. She knew what she was doing and had a well-managed classroom. She recognizes what she is instructing about, energizes, fuses jargon. For a class with conduct issues, she sure kept class the executives so consistent that it was anything but an issue. I am sparing this video for my own motivation. However, I did not agree with her when she stated that some of the students were undiagnosed. She is the teacher and I can see where she is coming from, however; not every student has some type of disability. Some students are average and that is perfectly acceptable. You can tell in some aspects that she was in fact just a first year teacher. I would agree with someone with experience anytime before I would agree with a first year teacher.
As educators, we know when there is something amiss with the children that we teach. I am sure, as many us have recognized, children that need to be evaluated. This does not make us unprofessional, it makes intune to the needs of our students. We are not doctors and cannot diagnose a child, but it is our job as educators the correct information when we access our student's so that they may be identified so that can get the right support to help them to be successful.
The look on the girls face after the teacher made over her poetry was priceless. She will remember that for the rest of her life.
