If we add Laine to our team, I stop cheering for the habs. He has the same reputation as PLD in the locker room, ended up being worst since his first year in the league and is a massive cry baby. No thank you.

Columbus does not need more defense, they need goals. They have Jiricek and Mateychuk coming up in the next 1-2 years, why block them?

Probably goes to Utah, for an exposed selection. Horrible contract, not very good production, and one dimensional. He can score and hit. Thats about it.
*Most of These Mock Trades were horrendous...what is this, NHL GM Mode on Easy.. Production won't return unless he's on a new contract, at much cheaper and a strong team has the depth to generate his production.
Laine won’t be an excuse for a cap dump for other teams….Anderson, pass. Kotkaniemi, hard pass. Etc. The guys value is low but his contract is only 2 years and if the jackets retain the player has reasonable value. At 50% he is a less than a $4.5M player so why would the Jackets take on a bad contract w/5 years or more. No shot.

I really think Montreal will be a serious buyer for Laine… Maybe they do not get him, But from what they have said they want to speed up the rebuild and move some assets, They have also said they want to get bigger. The Habs have enough assets to get a player like him to speed up the rebuild while still not emptying their pool and picks…
Laine at 50% or 25% retained is much much much more interesting and I think that info will lead the Habs to be more serious about Laine… Sure you can definitely argue their are a lot of risks, BUT if Laine even works out to 85% of what he is capable of that’s a REALLY solid top 6 player… The risk is high but at the same time it’s not because his deal is not long term it’s only 2 years left…
At 50% retained the most I would be willing to give for Laine would be.
2024 First Round Pick #26, 2024 3rd Round Pick, Justin Barron, Filip Mesar.
At 25% Retained the most I would be happy giving would be.
2024 First Round Pick #26, Justin Barron, 2024 5th Round Pick. Dvorak to make the money work.
Laine As he is with no Retention.

You could trade Jordan Harris instead of Justin Barron but I think with Barron being a RD with some offensive potential CBJ would like him more, Personally I think Harris will be the better all around D. I just think Barron fits with CBJ more…

Unless it’s a sign and trade his value is greatly depressed as there is no guarantee he will sign with the team he’s traded too.. the 2 Russians have no value with Mikheyev needing as high as a 1st round pick to take his whole contract, Podkolzin value does cover that… to get Laine at a reduced cap hit costs extra… yes his value is lower now but he’s still a proven 30+ goal scorer playing with bums….
There is NO way Columbus ever takes Dubois back. That bridge is well burned.

Laine is not getting four pieces back in trade unless multiple teams/players are involved. bj's have to retain salary to make any deal happen. And laine will go for cheap, probably pick, prospect or player after the ufa scorers and scorers on the market like marner, zegras, necas, ehlers get moved as a secondary trade scoring option for teams that lost out on ufa's-scorers above. One rumour-will end up with pens and score 35-40 playing with crosby. Most of those rumours are just bad fits. Only a few teams are a fit and have the structure to take on laine's baggage. bj's aren't one of them and is where careers go to die.
I don’t mind the idea of Laine going to the rangers. But for trouba, Cuylle and Kakko. They rangers get Laine 50% retain and Gudbranson 25% retain. NYR may need to a 1st. But I get it. But Laine could help Z and Kreider who weren’t great 5v5. And Gud on the 3rd pair with a rotating Jones and Robertson wouldn’t be bad. With a few rookies looking to make the team next year I think cuylle would be expendable. That opens cap for the resigns they need.
John Davidson & Jeff Gorton were in The Rangers Regime when they traded for him & signed that contract, that had made GM Chris Drury not able to Sign Pavel Buchnievich, so, John Davidson might still be enamored with him. LOL
