Great walk around man! Bout to head to Florida from NC, this is just what I needed. My jeep has been a little neglected lately (shame) but this was very informative and it got me inspired to start workin on my XJ again
Dan, quick question: have you ever had a "chirping" noise in the rear interior? I suspect it some loose mechanism in my rear lift gate. It's annoying the heck outta me. It's an awesome 2000 classic xj, but the chirp makes it seem junky. I love a solid, quiet ride. BTW, your channel is the bomb (aka Bombers). I was born in the Bronx. Fordham U! Dying to put some bigger tires on soon. Maybe not the 33s everyone else is mounting, but something good for Colorado winter's & basic off-roading. I'll check out the 265 60R 18s. Gotta find more rims first. BTW, O'Reilly's claims the Rotella oil doesn't match for my 2000 xj classic. What's the latest on the experience with your first Rotella fill? Your feedback would be awesome. Keep up the great stuff. Go GMEN/Yankees.
Ahh the chirp! Check out my 5 things I hate a out my XJ vid. I'll bet you I covered your squeak. The rotella is for diesel but people use it in XJs for the ZINC. Make sure you use a zinc additive if you don't use a zinc based oil. LGY .. I miss DiDi already
I found my chirp… it was the little rubber “seats”? For the rear seat. They were worn out where the two release levers are on the top of the back seat. Found a couple better ones at the junkyard. Been quiet since.
There are many steering braces that's what I'm getting. Plus you can upgrade to 1ton steering don't worry bro xj all the way cheapest and best way to troll
Wouldn't the electronics be equally impacted by the change in ring gear? If so, then if 41.25 teeth was perfectly accurate, and you have a 41 tooth gear, then your gauge and electronics would only be 0.6% off of accurate readings rather than 25% off.
@@ProjectDanH Ah okay. I know you mentioned the Jeep needed to be up to temp, but the engine appeared to be off when you checked the dipstick? (for sound quality I'm amusing?)
dude quick question, it showed up there: 9.5mpg if I am correct that is for us europeans here 25l/100km.. That can't be right, right? What is the fuel consumption on this thing man? Btw great channel, keep it up, I absolutely love the Cherokees and your channel too! :)
100000% honestly anything with zinc will help the 4.0. I recently just had Gabe do the oil in Grievous because I didn't have time and it came back ticking like crazy. I immediately put in a half quart of ristlone zinc additive and she was purring like a kitten the next day. 😽
Hi how are you ? I hope you are well and your family too. I always watch your videos. I have a question. Is rotella oil really good for cherokee xj? Is it for diesel engine? ... I hope and you can help me . regards...
hey Francisco thank you for your support. Yes Rotella is a great oil for Jeep Cherokees and any vehicle that has flat tappet lifters. Rotella has ZDDP (zinc) and it protects the lifters from wear and tear. newer engines don't use oil with zinc because of emissions regulations so oils for new engines in our 4.0s will cause the lifter tick. if you don't like Rotella that I highly recommend any oil that has the zddp in it. thanks again 💪
Need someone to send a penny to 🇨🇦🤪... love your vids... males me wanna get a jeep again ... sold my 01 Grand Cherokee... and my buddy just got an 08 Grand Cherokee Diesel 🤩
I got a 99 Cherokee Limited 4.0 what is Normal Oil Pressure for these jeeps mine runs at 40 psi to the line right after 40 psi it also dips down at idle sometimes to the line before 40 psi mark is this normal? Fellow Jeeper From - Maryland
the needle should be around the 1 o'clock positon when running.. I guess that's about 50ish psi . that is definitely normal. the guages were designed to have "normal" be in the 12 o'clock positon. just like battery voltage, and Temp. if the needle is at zero get your oil pump checked.. if it's past 80 it's probably a bad oil pressure sensor.. I think your good tho 💪
Hi Dan I'm a fan of you from Boston Massachusetts . I have one question to ask you . I'm interested buying 1999 jeep grand Cherokee but the thing is it have a bad valve what's that mean (bad valve) ?
Hey, thanks for watching! How do you know it has a bad valve? Valves are in the cylinder head. Theres 2 valve for each cylinder. One that lets clean air in and the other let's exhaust gas out. They aren't a huge deal. Mechanics do valve work all the time and they replace heads or do head gaskets all the time. My only concern is why it would be just a bad Valve and which valve it actually is. Can you take it to a mechanic and have him look it over for you before you buy? 99s are a highly sought after so if it has no rust and low miles it could be worth buying it and getting the head done. Hope this helps! Best of luck
How do I no it a bad valve? Because the owner told me and I would like to ask you. Hopefully you're give me an idea so I can replace myself. I'm not a mechanic but I did learned from TH-cam tho 😄 . I love jeeps Dan Since 2000 I began to owned jeep grand cherokee ,jeep liberty, jeep commander . Ok thank you for your information
@@chewbaccac-3po129 no problem! I love Jeeps too. I would have a mechanic diagnose your problem. I wouldn't trust the guy selling it. Have it professionally inspected before you buy.. the seller could be saying bad valve but it have a crack in the head.. You want to make sure your known exactly what your dealing with. And if it is a valve and your not an experienced mechanic I don't think valves are a good job to learn on.
First of all thanks a lot for the video, I dont really know much about vehicles but my granpa recently passed away and he left his cherokee sport 2000 for me. But it has a little problem. After like 30 minutes of use it always turns off (temperature at around 100°C/212°F, gauge at right in the middle) and have to wait like 45 minutes for it to cool down and turn it on again. Any idea what can cause this? Asked my local mechanic(not sure if mechanic is the correct word english not first language) but he didnt know, he only said im missing the plastic that covers the fan, the fan is exposed. Could this be the problem?
Thank you for watching! I'm sorry for your loss, but it's nice he left you the XJ for something to remember him by. Does it overheat while driving, or at idle,. Try changing the small things like the thermostat and flushing the coolant. Make sure you burp the system really well and get all the air out. Of that doesn't help you can move on to bigger things like the radiator and water pump. Be careful overheating a 2000, they have a problem with the head and it could crack if it's overheated. Good luck man!
Idk if you’ve figured the problem out or not but old jeeps have a bad problem with “vapor lock” or “heat soak” I suggest purchasing a injector wrap kit from DEI hope that helps
@@alexnasiadka5140 Actually I haven't figured out, thanks a lot for the tip will check it out. I was also noticing that the "secondary fan" if that's how you call it don't even turn on, like if the vehicle turn off even before reaching that temp that turns that fan on.

@@kansascityjimi2531 Well hello officially 😁. I read and respond to every single comment I receive so it's my pleasure to chat with you. I hold a grudge against Castrol GTX high mileage because I was running that oil in my last XJ when the motor died. I believe it's lack of zinc chewed up my cam. I know that zinc is an important ingredient (ZDDP) in oil because it's highly lubricative and works great on flat tappet lifters. It also will silent that "tapping" sound 4.0s love to make. In my ignorance I assumed all high mileage motor oils had zinc. I did not realize zinc was removed from modern motor oils because its exhaust clogs catalytic converters faster. Since I was excited to try Rotella oil with ZDDP already in it, and still bitter my last 4.0 died with GTX in it, perhaps I came off grinchy too. Hope all is well. God bless, Merry Christmas.
@@ProjectDanH well my friend all I can think to say is beyond thank you for that, I can more than appreciate being bent up about your 4.0 dying for sure, I'm familiar with zinc at and out of your life just haven't gotten there yet with my baby as I've had her a year and two months with sparse work in between so no extra money to take her where I wanted to go from bone stock to close to what you've got although yours is way too clean for me keep your soul clean keep your Jeep dirty. So now all the hugs and tears are over with, I literally just noticed a tapping on what I'm positive is on top of the motor in the front so I figured lifters or the Rockers so I meant it when I said you had me when you said zinc is good for these lifters and I'm at home yelling "Hey I have that problem " Come again now that we've reset and pause to that moment and going forward, has that oil shown you any evidence of improvement? Also side note knots terribly important but it is my dream I need two more Cherokees one I want to be purpose-built for fun, I'm thinking about going back to a two-wheel drive for my day today I had a 93 stick two wheel sport that was one of the fastest rides I've ever had.
Классная машина! Береги её!
i definitely will!
The oil pressure is so good😭😭😂
Is there any risk in using high zinc motor oil to the catalytic converter? I have heard that that could be an issue.
Hey Dan, what trans oil do you recommend?
ATF+4 as per the FSM
@@ProjectDanH in an Aisin-Warner automatic transmission, I believe the correct fluid is Dex-Merc.

I’m really considering getting an XJ, the only bad thing I’ve heard about them is the steering. Has anyone had any issues/solutions with that?
I have never had a steering issue with an XJ. Sometimes solid front end axles can get death wobble, but that not just an XJ thing.
There are many steering braces that's what I'm getting. Plus you can upgrade to 1ton steering don't worry bro xj all the way cheapest and best way to troll
Wouldn't the electronics be equally impacted by the change in ring gear? If so, then if 41.25 teeth was perfectly accurate, and you have a 41 tooth gear, then your gauge and electronics would only be 0.6% off of accurate readings rather than 25% off.
correct, the electronic are equally off by the same ratio accounted for in the speedo gear.
Isnt trans fluid level supposed to be checked with the engine running
Yep, and in neutral
I thought the engine was supposed to be running and hot when you check the trans fluid?
Yes.. and in neutral.
thanks brother! I have incorrect readings for my fuel consumption because I changed my speedo gear to match my police model speedometer. good eye!
Project Dan H So what is the real consumption of your car? :)
@@Shemhamforaesh about 13mpg city, 17mpg highway... Right on the money 😁
Since it’s been a while since you used the rotella oil, would you recommend it ?
100000% honestly anything with zinc will help the 4.0. I recently just had Gabe do the oil in Grievous because I didn't have time and it came back ticking like crazy. I immediately put in a half quart of ristlone zinc additive and she was purring like a kitten the next day. 😽
Project Dan H thank you I’ll definitely try it on my next oil change
Please Dan tell me where did you get those black rim n off of what car or truck please response thanks n god bless

That's a great coincidence! Small world. thanks for watching!
I got a 99 Cherokee Limited 4.0 what is Normal Oil Pressure for these jeeps mine runs at 40 psi to the line right after 40 psi it also dips down at idle sometimes to the line before 40 psi mark is this normal?
Fellow Jeeper
From - Maryland
the needle should be around the 1 o'clock positon when running.. I think your good tho 💪
you do realize you change a gear on the transmission or transfer case to correct the speedo right?
Yea.. I did that, I thought I said so in the video
I love jeeps Dan
Since 2000 I began to owned jeep grand cherokee ,jeep liberty, jeep commander .
@@ProjectDanH thank you! Is doesnt actually overheat, it turn off when the gauge is at the middle, dont know exactly if it is overheating.
@@abrahamv.7714 That's so strange! Well a coolant flush couldn't hurt! 🤣
Idk if you’ve figured the problem out or not but old jeeps have a bad problem with “vapor lock” or “heat soak”
I suggest purchasing a injector wrap kit from DEI hope that helps
@@alexnasiadka5140 Actually I haven't figured out, thanks a lot for the tip will check it out.
I was also noticing that the "secondary fan" if that's how you call it don't even turn on, like if the vehicle turn off even before reaching that temp that turns that fan on.
Get a window hammer/seat belt cutter in case you hit the drink in your car. Bought a box full for all my vehicles so we can escape a water hazard.

How do I set the clock on these jeeps?
it depends on what radio you have... usually the factory radio has little holes marked H M for hour/min. push em with a paper clip!
5k is the old 3k for oil changes at the least

@@ProjectDanH first I'm surprised that landed on your radar ,so for what it's worth, hello. If I've got the Nichols I go with Mobil 1 synthetic with prolong additive if I don't I go with the Castrol synthetic and in fact this last time I went with 'the high mileage' but, always with prolong added. Maybe it was just the way you said it , at that moment ,on that one episode that rubbed me wrong. I have seen a couple other shows,
Like your walk around of Black Beauty which is Sweet By the way , watching you rebuild that Dolly to pick up the ZJ at your buddies place before he got dinged with some heavy fines, and the episode that I commented on about the leather seats . . . But, ,when I don't call her the truck, Jeep, or my XJ . . . I call her my baby.
I tell people "The Jeep Cherokee , , is the greatest vehicle God ever inspired man, to build , , ,with the two hands he already gave us." And I almost Always close with "Keep your soul clean and your Jeep dirty"
Full disclosure, that was the first time I heard about the XJ liking Zink and, intended on researching that next, at the same time I sent you that 'nasty gram'
And completely separate from all of this , are 2 personal issues I'm going through and Christmas on my shoulders. perhaps I did Grinch a little bit but, looking back the responses I've gotten, I'm clearly not alone
So now all the hugs and tears are over with, I literally just noticed a tapping on what I'm positive is on top of the motor in the front so I figured lifters or the Rockers so I meant it when I said you had me when you said zinc is good for these lifters and I'm at home yelling "Hey I have that problem "
Come again now that we've reset and pause to that moment and going forward, has that oil shown you any evidence of improvement? Also side note knots terribly important but it is my dream I need two more Cherokees one I want to be purpose-built for fun, I'm thinking about going back to a two-wheel drive for my day today I had a 93 stick two wheel sport that was one of the fastest rides I've ever had.
