  • Tim Hogan, owner of Outboard Exchange in Waterford, CT, was tasked with rebuilding the powerhead for this 2003 Yamaha 200HP HPDI. We always want to figure out why it failed so we can prevent it from happening again. We begin with checking the VST tank, spark, and injectors. In part 2 we will discuss fuel contamination.
    We have been re-manufacturing outboards for over 30 years. In that time we have learned which motors are the most reliable in the long run. We believe that the history of an outboard over its life span is the best judge of its quality and reliability.     I'm curious... where does the oil get mixed? Into the fuel before the high pressure injection or separately into cylinder?

      Good question! Into the VST tank before the high pressure pump.
