@@koryandrews1665 Well, that's what is listed in the HVSC. Maybe it's just inspired by. 4:42 also seems to be "it happened then" by electronic ensemble which would put the entire Whittaker VS Zombi Nation into a new perspective.
I feel there could be a few more '80s synthpop themes in there. Fade to Gray and 99 Red Balloons persisted to be viewed as classics today, but a lot of music didn't.
To be precise, Lazy Jones is from 1984. It included some bits of songs already on the scene, as you mentioned, like Fade to Gray from Visage and 99 Luftballons from Nena. Kernkraft 400 took a piece of the soundtrack of the game to made their "Zombie Nation", wich is from the late 90's :D I miss the C64 days so much...
I know exactly what you mean. I used to play this game just for the soundtrack. I was a kid and I used to crank that volume up and lay my head down on my computer desk and get lost in it.
David Whittaker is a genius, he created a tune that later in 2000s became an iconic evergreen dance hit also used as official stadium song for many stadiums and clubs.
I remember hearing it being played during a football game, and recognizing it immediately. I had never heard of "Zombie Nation", I was just thinking, "how the hell did someone find this obscure little tune that comes from an obscure video game I played as a kid?"
Not only the 80s, but the 90s and 2000s as well. The The High Voltage SID Collection was released in 1989 for Amiga and those who still had the working MOS SID chips for the old Commodore 64 could use the SID chips in the Electron SidStation, accessing 45,000 beats, tunes and melodies from the chiptune genre and the Golden Age of Arcade gaming. Many of these tracks would go on to be Billboard hits like Nelly Furtado's "Do It"
Truth is most of these subtunes were covers. HOWEVER, Zombie Nation sampled the stardust one WITHOUT PERMISSION to create Kernkraft 400. They had to go back and pay for it. :)
+zaphod77 Subtune 21, named "Star Dust", was used by the German producer team Zombie Nation in their song Kernkraft 400 without permission. Florian Senfter ("Splank!") later paid an undisclosed sum to David Whittaker for the use of the melody.
I'm probably going to sound weird and shit, but this soundtrack feels as if I could fall asleep to it. No lie, I feel like I can sleep to this track. Something about this synthesiser makes this soundtrack sound peaceful, as if there is nothing to worry about. You are all by yourself in your own world doing whatever you want and no one can bother you. I guess that could describe the character Lazy Jones in one way.
I usually roll my eyes when people are suing other people, but in this case, Whittaker can sue everybody. This soundtrack is amazing, especially considering the medium and time it was made.
If you have winamp...you can download a Winamp plugin of Sidplay2. Once you get this plugin, you can find this track (and thousands of other C64 music files) at the High Voltage SID Collection (HVSC).
I like how some of the melodies sounds like a chiptune of House music from the 90's, and this was a couple of years before that type of music became popular.
Das geht ab! Zumindest für mich! Hab das game noch auf dem C64 gespielt. Die Musik war das motivierendste an der Kiste ;-) Ohne Musik hätten die Games keinen Spaß gemacht.
givant Yes but that's because Lazy Jones has a 99 Red Balloons minigame in it. The theme changes to that after you enter that particular game room, and changes back when you leave.
The Lazy Jones intro theme: Hoagy Carmichael wrote it and there's a popular version by Leon Redbone. When I played this game in the 80s, I already knew about the song through my grandparents.
Ironically Zombie Nation just took a sample of an already copied tune in this game. What a weird time when video games were still insignificant enough to just snatch those tunes. Then again, the early days of the WWW were not that different.
@derLabsch : Yeaaah i see that everybody are talking about the tracks Zombie Nation a the end but just before, it's an another track that you mention: Fade to Grey by Visage
@PeeterCZ It should be because the screeches were actually sounds, and not part of the soundtrack which was in the background (if i recall right, the screeches replaced the minigames sounds which would confirm they were sounds and not part of the music)
@jokester007 nice, yeah I only really know this sid set, not the covers... I like electronic music but it's not my number one so I have only heard the Kernkraft thing... seems like it was zombie nation who made it from start anyway! "Subtune 21, named "Stardust", was remixed by the German producer team Zombie Nation (initially unlicensed, which caused the producers to pay an undisclosed amount of money to Whittaker.)in their song Kernkraft 400.
I have discoveries like that several times a year, I am also amazed that the sound track is only 5 mins long! I thought each theme would be 3mins long at least. I came to this song because the band Broadcast have a song "DDL" that vaguely made me want to listen to this. My favourite C64 is probably a theme in the Miami Vice game with some kind of echo effect. That's my next search :)
yes they do. it seamlessly shifts from one theme to another. when you play a game it changes at the next change point and keeps the theme going as long as the game goes.
which of the games had the zombie nation one? i actually dont recall it, and that feels too bad because ive both played this and zombie nation - kernkraft 400 :O

Well, that is a lot of songs in the soundtrack
I feel there could be a few more '80s synthpop themes in there. Fade to Gray and 99 Red Balloons persisted to be viewed as classics today, but a lot of music didn't.
I also hear Bud Spencer & Terence Hill - Lalalalalala 2:06 :P
This soundtrack contains all the songs in the universe, if you listen close enough.
Gaye Son's in disguise right here
And this is how kernkraft 400 was created ;-)
That's exactly why I came here, glad I'm not crazy
1:29 Nena - 99 Luftballons , 4:30 Visage - Fade To Grey , 4:42 Zombie Nation - Kernkraft 440
+kepok2 I was about to say how can you distinguish the music if there aren't enough "bits" into it, but yeah, damn, the ripoffs are real

So many people stole from this magical tune!
I remember hearing it being played during a football game, and recognizing it immediately. I had never heard of "Zombie Nation", I was just thinking, "how the hell did someone find this obscure little tune that comes from an obscure video game I played as a kid?"
And in the late 90s lived on a CD player in my car with an 800 w system ;)

Because they’re songs from the eighties, which reminds many people of the good times

This is MY JAM! played this SO MUCH as a kid with my dad and 2 older brothers. It was an amazing time to grow up!

Best room in the game ... the broom closet :)
Well it's a tie between the broom closet and the shitter! Lol #EggieChuck
Great song. But to be clear, it came out in 1984, and the songs contained in it, came few years before.
