I've been watching your channel for years now, but I just got my first eczema flare in July (family history) and have been fighting it off the past 3 months. It is a PAIN to get rid of, but your videos have been an absolute godsend for quick and comprehensive information, and your reliable product recommendations have made the journey so much easier. Thank you so much for all your hard work and help to save our time, money, and in some cases, sanity!
I’ve had eczema my whole life. Recently when I’ve broken out I tried some aquaphor baby diaper rash cream that I had because Dr dray has talked in the past about the benefits of zinc creams and holy crap that worked better for me than anything else I’ve used in my 40+ years. Itch immediately gone and 50% healed over night. If I get it on when I first flare it totally clears it. I’m shocked.
I have been dealing with eyelid eczema for the past two years, I can't wear makeup anymore bc my skin always seems to be rough, dry and itchy to some degree. The dermatologist I saw gave me some steroid cream to apply directly into the eye. Having done a bit of research, since the eczeme just keeps comeing back after a month, and learning about topical steroid withdrawal syndrome, I am so thankful for this video! Especially hearing that steroids are not the only way to treat this.
I had to quit CORN It took 4 months and I could only use Beef Tallow and Aquaphor to soothe Corn meal, corn syrup, corn starch, corn chips, dextrose, polenta, cereal, ethanol, grits, popcorn etc I sucks! But I dont look like a Victorian child with the Black Plague now
I keep a travel size tube of petroleum jelly in my purse. It works so well for soothing my itchy eyes. I also use allergy eye drops. The combo of the drops and PJ helps a lot.
Eyelid eczema sounds miserable. Thank goodness for doctors like you willing to give away their time and expert advice for free. I know you help so many people with a multitude of skin issues. Happy Friday, Dr Dray! I hope you, your sweet momma and little Tybee have a fantastic weekend. 💙
@@isagoldfield7393yep. I’ve had eczema pretty much everywhere, but the eyelid flares are by far the worst. It’s the first thing ppl notice about you, eyes are constantly itchy and watery. The worst ugh
As someone who started experiencing eyelid and hand eczema, surprisingly I’ve found petroleum to be the least effective in managing the symptoms or maintaining the skin barrier. After using countless creams and salves, I’ve found Aestura 365 barrier cream, Illiyoon Ceramide, Anua Intense Calming Cream , and a gem face roller for cold press to be the most effective with flare ups and maintaining skin barrier
I got this from wearing Glossier eyeshadow. Threw it away. Had it for 2 months and didn’t know what to do about it. After I started using the Cerave hydrating cleanser my eyelid fully healed after 3 days 😮
Your so lucky! I’ve had mine since I can’t even remember when but I was about 7 when I got it and it’s just never gone away! I have no clue what caused it but when I was a young her child (about5-6) I had eczema on the outside of my elbows and I still have that too!
I suffered with eyelid eczema for many, many years and it was a pain to deal with. I went without wearing eye makeup for quite a few years (even though I really enjoyed wearing it) because I couldn't find a brand that wouldn't aggravate it and cause it to flare up. I tried numerous different shampoos trying to find one that wouldn't bring on a flare. My Primary Physician prescribed me a low level (because a high percentage of steroid can also be problematic) steroid cream to use on my eyelids. After using it consistently every day for several weeks it finally calmed down and I haven't experienced a serious flare in several years. Thank goodness! I am able to wear eye makeup without any issues, which is nice. But I did go several years of being in absolute misery. I do keep a tube of the low dose steroid cream on hand just in case, but hopefully it will stay at bay.
I developed eczema around my eyes since last year and I couldn't figure out what the cause was. I avoided a bunch of things, trying to figure out what the trigger was wondering if I was developing an allergy. I went to a few derm's and the creams I received would manage symptoms but it would keep coming back. In the end, I wondered maybe it's not allergy related. I got so fed up that I went to a nutritionist and she urged me to do a stool test. The test found I have an overgrowth of specific bacteria that are commonly known to cause eczema but also my PCOS was possibly causing the eczema as well. It was hard to tell which exactly was the catalyst but my nutritionist said they were most likely culprits, affecting each other in a loop and cycle. I've been adjusting my nutrition such as reducing flammatory foods like guten and dairy and been on a bunch of supplements to kill the bacteria. I'm seeing a much bigger difference though I still have ways to go! Before my journey, my eyelids would be dry, itchy, swollen and red and I couldn't sleep most nights. I remember how much my eyes would use to burn at night due to the itchiness and it would be so hard to sleep. Now I don't have these issues and only get flares if I'm not looking after my nutrition. Hope this can help someone!
Thank you. I've been struggling with eczematous cheilitis too and no doctor knows how to help that condition. Could you please make a video about that too?
Thank you Dr. Dray for sharing 😊 I've had this ongoing issue with Eczema just under my eyebrows. I'm not using a Eyebrow gel anymore. I use either Vaseline or Dr. Bronner's unscented Magic balm to help with the redness and sometimes the itchy rash . I noticed too that when I shampoo my hair even though it is Unscented that can cause an irritation. After I shampoo my hair, I wash my hands before I wash my face that seems to help. I change my face cloths that I use to dry my face - and pillow case every few days now. I always use fragrance free laundry soap. Take care everyone 🌹
I have had eyelid eczema for years. After a horrible flare up and having the dermatologist prescribe 2.5% hydrocortisone which did work, I discovered Skinfix Dermatitis balm and use it on my eyelids twice a day and have not had one flare up for over a year. And I can wear gentle eye makeup!
Changing my shampoo to the medicated ones per your prior video has been LIFE CHANGING!! I no longer have itchy scalp caused by psoriasis. it has helped my body from breaking out too.
05:39 Also, quite often companies will continually reformulate something like laundry detergent or whatever, so if you have used something for a long long time with no issues, it still could be that product causing the issue as they could have tweaked the ingredients and put in something new.
I have found washing my areas on the face I.e. eyelids , eyebrows and ears w/some head and shoulders helps keep it at bay and of course my scalp when it is breaking out in sore pimples and itchy
You really do great education! Have you talked about the link between ADHD and eczema in your videos? I've heard of the asthma, allergies, eczema link my whole life but ADHD is never on the list. I have had atopic dermatitis my whole life and would have appreciated a derm telling me: "hey, we dont know why, but people with atopic dermatitis are more likely to have ADHD than the general pop. Keep that info in your backpocket." I might have sought a diagnosis and gotten treatment much earlier which would have been life changing.
Where was this video 14 years ago when I was dealing with a flare up of eczema on my eyelids and had no idea it was simply eczema. My eyes were so swollen and red. I looked like an ogre and hurt so bad. Then my dermatologist told me it was also eczema and Ceravé + Vaseline took care of it. Now I can nip it in the bud at the first sensation of dryness!
I get this in the winter. I think one thing that makes it worse is dry and windy weather makes my eyes water and some tears liquid wicks up to my lids, which are hooded and trap the tears in the skin. Plain petrolatum helps but also I have found I can't use the same eye creams I use in warm weather and the only eye cream that works is Kiehl's Avocado Eye Cream.
i randomly developed eczema around my eyes last november. no idea what caused it, no idea what i did that led to it stopping. now i sometimes get it around my mouth depending on what products i use, but not around my eyes anymore.
I had this and made the mistake of going to an ophthalmologist. Gave me antibiotic ointment and steroid drops. Did nothing. I looked like I was crying all the time. I went through boxes of tissues. For one full year. UGH! It started again a few years later and I went to dermatology doc and she fixed me up with ketoconazole ointment.
Since ketoconazole fixed it, I’m assuming it was seborrheic dermatitis. Did the dermatologist figure this out right away? Or did you have to do some sort of testing?
There is also DEMODEX EYELID DERMATITIS. I went to two dermatologists then finally an ophthalmologist, who prescribed doxycycline and tea tree oil wipes, which finally cured the irritation. Why not cover it in this video?
This happened to me when makeup cleansing wipes first became a thing. Mine was more psoriasis with big flakes. It lasted for an entire year! It happened again when micellar water became popular. No cotton/cloth rubbing for me anymore 🙅♀️
I just got my first flare on my eye lids (mostly right eye lid) up 3 weeks ago. I felt like the miscellular water I always use made it worse but I’m not sure what caused it. I’m 35 years old and had never had this happen to me.
@@user-ks3qr5fk6m I can’t say for certain, but I think mine is caused by any kind of rubbing no matter how gentle the product is. The cotton pads you use with micellar water, the cloth with makeup wipes, etc. any kind of contact rubbing. However, it’s fine if I rub in product with my fingers. The only way I was able to get rid of it was a prescription cream from an eye doctor. It needed an active ingredient of some kind (it’s been years but I think it was a steroid). I use cleansing oil to remove my makeup now, just to melt it instead of wiping it off. I’m sorry to hear about your problem :( it seriously sucks and can be so embarrassing. My eyelid eczema was caused when an optometrist insisted I use OTC eyelid cleansing pads. I finally cured it with Avene products. Nothing else came close to helping it.
@@x-starlight-x I use the thermal water spray twice a day before I use skincare. My moisturizer is the Xeracalm balm (it’s quite thick so you only need a tiny bit so the container lasts a long time.) I also use the Tolerance balm for something lighter. That’s it.
I'm pretty sure I have atopic dermatitis on my lids and seborrheic dermatitis on my face, not sure how it's possible but they each respond to different treatments
I have dealt with eyelid eczema for several years. It has been periodically treated with a corticosteroid. At this time, my eyes are great, but I never know when I will have a flare. When I have a flare my eyes are also red and inflamed.
I had horrendous contact dermatisis on my eyelids a couple of years ago. My doctor at the time wasn't great and had no clue what to do with it and just told me to avoid rubbing them. It eventually went away after I moved out of the apartment i was living in at the time. Still have no clue what caused it, it must have been something in there.
Very informative! Thanks as usual for the knowledge. Recently, I had two skin biopsies and the results show I both have eczema and psoriasis. As the eczema was more predominant at the time, I was recommended a biologic called dupixent. While it was a great drug for a lot of people I know with eczema, mine had a paradoxical effect as I had a full blown psoriasis flareup. Now, I am under Sotyktu pill biologic medication more targeting psoriasis. Combined with short term PUVA treatment, most of my lesions have calmed down. There are still a few patches in my body and scalp psor is hard to remove. I am hoping that you could discuss about my situation as I would like to know about your thoughts. Thank you!!❤❤
wait... I've thought that the corners of my eyes have become so dry and irritable and flaky these past few months. you made me realize that I may have a mild case of eczema.
My inner eyelid has deep creases at the tear duct, how can I help that it's been all my life and I've been trying for years to keep the flares down 😢 I have large eyelids atopic dermatitis and dark circles i try using cereve healing ointment only there and caffine. I need my eyes they're a good feature of mine.
I suspected mascara has caused this for me in the past OR whatever I was washing my face with. I’ve switched to California baby super sensitive face and body wash and it doesn’t cause any irritation whatsoever. And yes I heard that gel nails can cause this too.
Oh wait- I use castor oil on my lashes too is that why? My eyes are so itchy, red and swollen. Doc even prescribed me an allergic medicine smth called levocetirizine but it doesn’t seem to help.
Hello, my dermatologist told me to use a small amount of clobetasol propionate for my eyelid eczema. However, I keep reading online that it’s too strong for the eye area, do you think that cream is safe to use in small amounts?
I just got it for my first time on one eye. Its been a pain to deal with. Im 33 I did get it after my first time having covid about a month n a half ago. Then it went away. Now its back.
My daughter is just 2 years old and she has atopic dermatitis. She is having a flare at the moment. She will often get a dry patch under one of her eyes. I never thought about the change in ambient humidity causing a flare. We live in Mexico and the rainy season is winding down. The last two weeks have been super dry! Would using a humidifier help? Thanks for all of the info!
I do battle with eczema on a regular basis since I live in a drier area than I used to. Since your daughter's only 2, I'd call & ask her pediatrician. I hope she gets better.
Finally found out the cause of mine after 1 year.. mould contamination throughout my house due to water damage! Finally getting out of this toxic place next week 🥹
I have psoriasis around my eyes and nose it can be really painfull. I realized that it's sometimes better to leave the area alone because literaly anything will irritate it more 😢
I had a really bad atopic dermatitis flare around my eyes a few years ago in the fall. I had had one before that cleared up on its own after about a month but this one just kept getting worse, and I was in school at the time so it was very mentally and socially difficult. Tacrolimus cleared it within days. Still don’t know what caused it.
I realized that I had mold toxins from my brita filter that I had left out in the summer and drank the water after placing it back in the fridge and have allergies to mold so realizing this after a few months of lemon water detox everyday it went away completely. Cucumbers on eyelids really helped my inflammation and flaking
@@mfss1153 I’m glad this could be resourceful I know the feeling of having to deal with the itchy eyelids and the process of healing. Cucumbers and 🍋 will be your best friend I promise you will feel better after you tackle the root cause and it could just be that mold issue 😮
Is it possible this eczema flares according to the menstrual cycle?i usually get this episodic flaky eye lids during mid menstrual cycle..or is this another problem?
Thank you so much, eyelid eczema basically destroyed my life for 5+ years until I finally got prescribed protopic. I still feel like managing / preventing it is like taking care of a newborn
I have been struggling with my eyelids for over 6 months, i thought putting a thin layer of vaseline on over night... worst thing i could have done! Red, swollen and itchy in the morning, i looked awful! Hydrocortisone cream sparingly and nothing else seems to help. I also take an antihistamine once a day.
I have seborrheic dermatitis on my eyelids and dandruff on my scalp. My dermatologist prescribed me Elidel for the eyelids and Ciclopirox shampoo for scalp. I feel like it worked very well for the first couple of months but since then, seems like there hasn’t been any improvement on either area. With the winter approaching, I feel like it’s getting worse and despite my best efforts to use them diligently I still don’t see any improvement. Can a medication just stop working like that?
@ Clobetasol 0.05% solution for my scalp, Ketoconazole 2% shampoo also for the scalp, and Desonide 0.05% for my eyelids. It’s been magic for me! You can only get it with prescription though, but ask your doctor about those! Best of luck!
My dermatologist prescribed a steroid cream for my eyelid eczema and painful angular cheleitis. The cream cleared it up, or so I thought. As soon as I stopped using the cream, the eyelid eczema and angular cheleitis came back with a vengeance. Ouch!
Hi Dr dray, In Mexico there is tretinion off brand and then bran retin A brand. Does the brand matter? The price difference is so huge. Off brand is 4$ and real brand is 50$;(
Great video! I have a histamine intolerance and will get eczema-like symptoms around my eye(s)during a flare-up. I have been dealing with it since 2011 and so glad there is more information available on this condition. It was a mystery for so long.
@@DrDrayzday yes, it is horrible. I got water running from my eye along with swelling. Had to use hydrocortisone (prescribed by a doctor) in the under eye area to calm it down. Now, I only use micellar water (for sensitive skin) to wash my eye area by keeping both eyelids closely shut and have cut down on using hyaluronic acid products around the eye and switched to a hybrid (mineral+chemical) sunscreen gel that doesn't sting the eye.

Hi and thank you for the amazing video. I have blepharitis and dermadex suddenly three weeks ago after using some soap I think half of my eyelid became reddish and swollen but the corner of my eye. Sometimes it turned dry and flaky! My problem is that I was recently diagnosed with blepharitis dermadex so I use tee tree wipes, xdermy drops and an ointment that the doctor gave me. But when I use the wipes the rash becomes worse to the point that I need to rinse my eyes! I don’t know what to do I haven’t been to a dermatologist yet just an eye doctor. Help please. 🙏
Green tea oil wipes ruined my skin....Xdemvy name of eye drops 6wk course---it's so expensive. Lotimer ointment or ivermectin ointment your dermatologist can order. Xdemvy requires opthamologist. Xdemvy takes 6wks twice a day.
@kathrynkarma2390 I’m using xdermy for four weeks already my eyelashes are clear but my eyelid especially the right one is still red and I can only use baby shampoo diluted in water to wash my eyelids otherwise if I use what the ophthalmologist gave me which is cliradex my skin becomes inflamed and crusty it’s horrible it burns my skin . I’m waiting two more weeks for a follow up. I will also see a dermatologist.. my eyelid has been red for over two months .

My eyelid eczema was caused when an optometrist insisted I use OTC eyelid cleansing pads. I finally cured it with Avene products. Nothing else came close to helping it.
Is there any avene products that you would recommend
@@x-starlight-x I use the thermal water spray twice a day before I use skincare. My moisturizer is the Xeracalm balm (it’s quite thick so you only need a tiny bit so the container lasts a long time.) I also use the Tolerance balm for something lighter. That’s it.
Needed this info!! Thank you.
I'm pretty sure I have atopic dermatitis on my lids and seborrheic dermatitis on my face, not sure how it's possible but they each respond to different treatments
Thank you! Very helpful!!! ❤
Can u make a video on devices that is effective for anti aging and hyperpigmentation
I have dealt with eyelid eczema for several years. It has been periodically treated with a corticosteroid. At this time, my eyes are great, but I never know when I will have a flare. When I have a flare my eyes are also red and inflamed.
Products with Phenoxyethanol give me terrible eyelid eczema and rosacea! Took me forever to figure it out, it is in almost everything
Another great video. Thank you.
Was there any mold there that you're aware of?
Good morning Dr Dray ❤
Morning!
Thank you!!❤❤
Happy weekend Dr Dray…see you tomorrow x🤩💙🎃
Happy Friday Dr. Dray! Pls do a video on lichen straitus..
Happy Friday!
wait... I've thought that the corners of my eyes have become so dry and irritable and flaky these past few months. you made me realize that I may have a mild case of eczema.
My inner eyelid has deep creases at the tear duct, how can I help that it's been all my life and I've been trying for years to keep the flares down 😢
I have large eyelids atopic dermatitis and dark circles i try using cereve healing ointment only there and caffine.
In my case, the cause was using castor oil around my lids and eyebrows, lashes . Eczema disappeared after I stopped.
I use a small amount and it helps. Just don’t use it a lot.
I just got it for my first time on one eye. Its been a pain to deal with. Im 33
I did get it after my first time having covid about a month n a half ago.
I realized that it's sometimes better to leave the area alone because literaly anything will irritate it more 😢
Try castor oil I have the same
@@hennyhenthorn thanks for the tip! I already use it for my nail psoriasis, but wasn't sure about the eye area.
I get psoriatic plaques right in the medial canthus. They cracks and sting. It hurts.
I have this, when my discoid Lupus flares up. I have to use a Rx steroid cream and jelly, and even a Rx eyedrop.
I got flaky eyelids after taking accutane but I stopped 3 months ago n I only took it for 2 months, yet it’s still not going away
this video coming out after a week of getting eyelid eczema!! divine timinggg lolll thanksss Dr now i have to figure it which type its mine :S
I realized that I had mold toxins from my brita filter that I had left out in the summer and drank the water after placing it back in the fridge and have allergies to mold so realizing this after a few months of lemon water detox everyday it went away completely. Cucumbers on eyelids really helped my inflammation and flaking
@ oh damn you might be onto something
I had some water damage in the basement in 2021
Something might be going up down there
Again ughhhh
@@mfss1153 I’m glad this could be resourceful I know the feeling of having to deal with the itchy eyelids and the process of healing. Cucumbers and 🍋 will be your best friend I promise you will feel better after you tackle the root cause and it could just be that mold issue 😮
THANK YOU
Updated video on Ashy Dermatosis please
Friday at last!!! 💜💜💜

Is it possible this eczema flares according to the menstrual cycle?i usually get this episodic flaky eye lids during mid menstrual cycle..or is this another problem?
Histamine and estrogen are linked. So yes.
Thank you so much, eyelid eczema basically destroyed my life for 5+ years until I finally got prescribed protopic. I still feel like managing / preventing it is like taking care of a newborn
How often will you still get flare ups? And did you find out what is causing it?
Haha I used this same analogy in reference to my eyelid eczema today. 😂
Try cutting out dairy, it cured mine totally.
How are you now? I also get alot more itchy when I used vaseline.
@itsdoodee7974 I avoid using it at all costs!
Avene cicalfate has worked wonders!
Do you still use it every day?
@ no, I went to another dermatologist since this comment and she prescribed me something else that’s been working incredibly well!
@@Jess_Smith0903 what is the new product if you don’t mind me asking? Been dealing with the same thing myself
@ Clobetasol 0.05% solution for my scalp, Ketoconazole 2% shampoo also for the scalp, and Desonide 0.05% for my eyelids. It’s been magic for me! You can only get it with prescription though, but ask your doctor about those! Best of luck!
@ is desonide a steroid? I’m a bit hesitant to use steroids on my face unfortunately
My dermatologist prescribed a steroid cream for my eyelid eczema and painful angular cheleitis. The cream cleared it up, or so I thought. As soon as I stopped using the cream, the eyelid eczema and angular cheleitis came back with a vengeance. Ouch!
I used to get bullied so bad for having eczema around my eyes when I was little. It was sooooo bad
I only get eczema on the outer part of my wrists. any idea what could cause that???
It might be a food? I have eczema on my hands when I eat gluten
Good
Hi Dr dray, In Mexico there is tretinion off brand and then bran retin A brand. Does the brand matter? The price difference is so huge. Off brand is 4$ and real brand is 50$;(
She might not know about that. What about Mexican derms like Dr Marino Dermatologo or Dr. Rene Gucon?
@@db-gb5xiur drunk
If by off brand you mean a generic than it’s the same. Go with the cheap one! That’s very common in US pharmacies
@@Hemmyii thank u yesss
Having a flareup - i feel like i can feel my eyelids drying up
Great video! I have a histamine intolerance and will get eczema-like symptoms around my eye(s)during a flare-up. I have been dealing with it since 2011 and so glad there is more information available on this condition. It was a mystery for so long.
Happy Friday guys
Same to you!
I had that only after taking antibiotics
Hello doctor ❤
Happy Friday!
I had this because of benzoyle peroxyde
Histamine response!
I had a bad spell of eyelid eczema under my right eye after using hyaluronic acid and stinging chemical sunscreen creams around my eyes.
it is not pleasant
@@DrDrayzday yes, it is horrible. I got water running from my eye along with swelling. Had to use hydrocortisone (prescribed by a doctor) in the under eye area to calm it down. Now, I only use micellar water (for sensitive skin) to wash my eye area by keeping both eyelids closely shut and have cut down on using hyaluronic acid products around the eye and switched to a hybrid (mineral+chemical) sunscreen gel that doesn't sting the eye.
@@sharifshabbir Is the hybrid sunscreen working for you? I have eyelid eczema in both eyes and just this week found out it was my chemical sunscreen and metal sunglasses. I just started using a mineral sunscreen and switched to cheap plastic sunglasses and daily claritin to get the swelling under control. So far so good.
Mine was caused by my eye drops.
What kind of eye drops were u using?
Went to a new dermatologist in West LA and she was absolutely useless. I miss my old one 😪
Yeah I recently developed idk something under my eye… bizarrely there’s a vein under it that flows into a random new splotch of rosacea that showed up at the same time… and out of nowhere I got a vein “scar” near my mouth… no clue, yes yes calling derm
Riboflavin 100mg (b2) every 12hrs.
Nicotinamide 500mg (b3) once daily.
Do this for 3 weeks.
Thank me later🙏🏻
