I respect Pete's approach to gear reviews. We as guitar players can get caught up with gear and we forget the most important thing... Play and write music! At the end of the day, it doesn't matter what gear you have (to an extent) it matters what music you make with it. Great video Pete! Love for Scotland
What I like about music - is when you think You've heard everything and nothing gonna touch your heart or inspire you - especially in modern youtube where everybody are tormenting zero fret on a 8-string and then I find guys like Pete Thorn or Leo Gibson who play beautiful music alongside with demoing interesting equipment. It was a great great pleasure to watch this video!
This is a little long but if you're on the fence about modeling this could be a worthwhile read. I bought one of these for late night practicing through headphones and the occasional fly gig/jam. It sounds so good to me that it has become my main rig, but there’s an important catch- I bypass the cab sims and put it straight into the fx loop return of my Bad Cat Cub 15R because, let’s face it, FRFR systems cannot recreate the “amp in a room” sound. Although I’m not about to part with my Eventide H9, the effects on board are good to excellent. I’m still pretty floored by how uniformly great this setup sounds. Just so you don’t think I’m some easily impressed noob, I’ve been playing since the early 80’s and own or have owned great amps by the likes of Mesa (at least 6), Carr, Friedman, Budda, Fender CS, Orange, Rivera, Revv, and so-on. I’ve had my favorites from these brands and I can really say that the Pod Go into my Bad Cat’s fx loop return puts as big a smile on my face as any of the above amps. Maybe I just got lucky and the Bad Cat just happens to “like” the Pod Go and it’s a great combination just by chance? Eventually I’ll pull out other amps to find out. I also think it’s important to mention that in my experience it doesn’t sound good into the front of an amp which makes sense given that you’re putting a modeled preamp into a real preamp in this scenario. Modeling has really come of age IMHO. If you’re tired of lugging a big rig around and you’re intrigued by modeling but don’t like the FRFR experience you should consider this kind of setup. You may be very surprised. Oh yeah, the day after I bought this I got an email from Fractal as I'd been on their waiting list for the past 6 months for a FM3. With all the confidence that I was making the right choice and zero regret to date, I told them I was going to pass. YMMV
Hey that's interesting. I was considering an FM3 as well, but I got the Pod Go for live use instead, as the Helix Floor (which I love) didn't make sense to cart around for rehearsals and small gigs (it now is just part of my studio setup) I never miss the Helix Floor when playing live. I use mine in 4CM with a BluGuitar Amp 1. I only use the Pod Go for effects as I get all the amp tone I need from the Amp 1. Have you ever tried 4CM with the Bad Cat? The Minotaur Boost effect into the front of a good amp sounds amazing to my ears. I generally only have that and sometimes a compressor or fuzz into the front, otherwise every other effect is in the loop.
Thanks, very interesting to read. I first got the PodGo about a year ago. I really liked it and saw sooo much improvement over my previous Zoom G5n. I use it in combination with a Headrush FRFR for rehearsal (we have not made it to play live yet). However, I decided to jump on the tube amp train and will be getting a blackstar ht5, so I am thinking of getting a couple extra cables as well to try the 4CM with it. Reading this gives me confidence that I am making the right choice. I will gladly comment later to let you know how it goes.
@@bodd66 I’m thinking of doing the same thing with an amp one. Just trying to decide which effects unit. Nice to hear you say the pod go works well. Also considering the headrush Mx5.
@@dr.gregoryweisswassernd7251 I only recently sold the Pod Go. I now have the Amp1 hooked up with a Fractal FM3 :O) It sounds awesome! Nothing wrong with the Pod Go at all though. It was super simple and sounded good. In the end I just didn't like the fact that the blocks were a little too rigid...especially the amp and cab blocks which I didn't need at all.
Long time Subber here. I've purchased a few things off the back of Pete's excellent reviews and never regretted it, including the Pod Go. Anyone looking for a simple, great sounding multi effects and or modeller should be happy with this. I've gigged and rehearsed heaps with it and apart from one show where it cut out during the last song (it was a very hot outdoor show) where I think the power supply overheated. It has worked fine ever since. My advice would be to really look after the power supply, as that is the unit's weakness.
Your music in this demo is itself a lesson and fantastic listening experience. As ever! Thank you for the inspiration and, of course, the thorough Line 6 review.

Great tune! After struggling to make the HX Stomp work as an all-in-one pedalboard (with an additional two button switch and external expression pedal), I bought a POD Go and absolutely love it. Way easier to use and sounds every bit as good.
Do you have the same parameter options on amps when it comes to tweaking tones with the go? Former hx user here who loved the unit but struggled with having to buy additional pedals to make it work live

I had a Helix LT about 2 years ago. Great sounds & functions - but - it was just too much Tweaking for me. Way too much. I broke down when I saw the POD GO. Hopefully it will be an answer. It is "On Truck for Delivery" today.
Been using the POD Go in 4 cable method with my trusty Suhr PT15IR - great tones with a lot of versatility. Super easy to set up, and a winning combination. Thanks for the great review video, Pete!
@@TheRycooder There's more than one way to do it, but here's one way: 1) guitar into Pod Go input. 2) Pod Go output into amp fx return. 3) amp fx send into Pod Go fx return. 4) pod go fx send into amp input. Depending on your patch, you can use the Pod Go in front of the amp, or in the fx loop. Using the Pod Go into the amp fx return means you can bypass the preamp on the amp, using the Pod Go to replace the preamp. Sound complicated? Yup, it can be. But you can save patches that do just about anything this way.

That univibe type 12 string motif had a Echoes vibe about it. Something about albatrosses and coral caves with a possible submarine thrown in to keep everyone honest.
Crap, Pete - that sounds like a perfect cosmic blend of Floyd and Rush. Needs some atmospheric lyrics about floating out among the satellites and looking down on the earth 8 miles below. Very cinematic, dude and to use your terms - friggin "gnarly". Rock On!
Nice video! Waiting for the wireless version to show up in Europe... : P I failed to catch if it had an FX send... would definitely be nice to use my H9 with it...
Hi, I was on the verge of buying the Pod Go and now I am reading about this guitar input impedance issue which kicks in when the Pod Go (the non wireless one) is plugged into the front of an amp. Awesome demo! Awesome song!!!!
Another great vid. Excellent writing, excellent playing, and excellent review.
Hearing 'Colour My World' meets 'Say Hello To Heaven' in that intro :-)
Nailed it 🗿
Hi Peter, between the hx and the pod go, which one would you go for? considering they are worth the same. Does the pod go sound like a helix? regards
Do you mean an HXFX? Which would only have fx models...
@@PeteThorn I'm in the doubt between buying a pod go or an hxstomp, do they sound the same?
Great Video. I just bought one of these a few days ago. It should be here Wednesday. I cant wait because it seems like they have come a long way from the old multi effect6s days like the Boss GT6
Can I run that software through a basic computer laptop thingy.
Clear , fun and impressive . oh yes I gotta' have me one of dee'z sold! my next purchase.
Pete your demo's show case the products under review/demonstration most impressively.
A big plus is that they are entertaining.
Really great harmony line!!! Thank you!!!
Rock On!
Alright, I'm sold!
Nice video!
Waiting for the wireless version to show up in Europe... : P
I failed to catch if it had an FX send... would definitely be nice to use my H9 with it...
Another great demo, Pete, thanks. Ultimate question though: Since you use Helix as a backup for your rig live, would you gig with POD Go?
That song at the start is great. Subscribed
I've already got a Helix Floor. If I didn't I'd buy this. Fantastic value for money.
Wow! Beast mode on Pete!!! Such great playing!!!!
Thanks for this! Am looking at these now and was hoping I would see something from you. Love the style of your reviews
always such classy and cool licks!!! thanx pete!!!
Great video Pete. I have a POD Go and as a beginner guitar player, this device is fantastic.
Can I connect this thing to a PA system?
This sounds great is there anything else in the recording chain? Would you recommend using something like the Fryette Power Station with it?
Nothing else in the recording chain. A power station would be useful to amplify through maybe a regular guitar cabinet
Hey Pete,
is it possible to deactivate the Amp/Cab section to use only the Effects in front of an real amp ?
Greetz from Germany
Michael
Hi, I was on the verge of buying the Pod Go and now I am reading about this guitar input impedance issue which kicks in when the Pod Go (the non wireless one) is plugged into the front of an amp. I believe the issue leads to a sound that lacks high end and I presume “life”. Is this a real issue. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
Pete what IR are you pairing with the Placater model?
