    哥倫布在學生時代就是個用功的好學生,因此做學問的功夫和習慣都很深厚。比如這一集一開始,他就爬了很多文… …。因此,他從來不會浪費我們的時間。他所製作的課程和TH-cam都很專業、實用。希望台灣政府能早點給你身分證,你是台灣年輕人的好榜樣,我們以你為榮!

    "撒嬌" generally is giving out a negative tone. I think the umbrella term "BEING NEEDY" is best to describe instead of "acting feminine" or "being girly" which are positive terms.

    • @yyr0925
      @yyr0925 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Agreed. Besides, I personally feel the term has gender biases. Men can be needy too.

      Agreed. For me, ‘girly’ is more of an action to show ur very feminine, or someone who always dress cute. For example, if you say a male is being ‘girly’ then it doesn’t referring to him being 撒嬌 at all

    • @daffenieru2867

      Hmmm… as a native 撒嬌queen, I disagree with you coz I always 撒嬌 in very sweet ways to gain more affection from ppl since childhood.
      The being needy acting, it is usually used to request but I think it’s not smart way to get what you want. Sometimes it’s a bit annoying even I’m a girl and I don’t really appreciate in this way.
      Anyways, who can resist a very sweet little angel? Smart 撒嬌 is better.

  • @matt91177
    @matt91177 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    I disagree the first part about saying that 撒嬌 is actually being girly or feminine. It's a big difference between these words.
    反而後面講的acting cute比較符合。
    不過還是感謝哥倫布用心的整理,各種撒嬌動作的說法挺明確的。

    嗨哥倫布,從很久以前就有看你的影片,一直覺得你很厲害,蒐集生活中的各種聲音做音樂講話也很幽默,然而這支片的幽默卻讓我感覺有點不舒服。
    我認為不應該用girly和feminine來形容撒嬌,這行為不僅限於女性會表現,且我認為撒嬌這個詞是中性的,我認同你後面用行為來解釋撒嬌,但當你戴著假髮在試圖演繹你心目中「女性」的樣子時,雖然知道你沒有惡意,但還是讓我覺得有種刻板印象以及帶有負面的歧視意味。
    你是一位有影響力的人,即時是一部幽默的教學影片,也會默默的加深大眾對於性別的刻板印象,希望下次選擇影片主題時可以再考慮到這點。
    謝謝你

    Being girly or feminine is not really 撒嬌, 撒嬌is just one of the behaviours that a girly person may often have and use to get what she wants. I think it’s better to describe the behaviour, eg. talks in baby voice, acting like a little girl…etc.

    I think the description depends on how the people around it feel about the "sa jiao".
    If he likes it, it's cute.
    But it can easily become "annoying" , "whinny", "acting cute/actor", "exaggerate”, “drama girl” etc

    Sorry using "feminine" to describe "撒嬌" is a MASSIVE miss. Acting or behaving "girly" MAY be close but it's still not it. Specifically for "feminine", it is SO far off because you are applying the prevalent Asian cultural norm and understanding of "feminine" which does not apply to most non-East Asian cultures. If someone says “my gf loves to be feminine to me” I promise you not a living soul would think of it as 撒嬌. Frankly I even question if any native English speakers living in Taiwan would make that association. Further, a man or boy can totally 撒嬌 too, would you use “feminine” to describe him? Most definitely not because describing a man/ boy that’s feminine has a completely different connotation.
    If you need to describe a cultural phenomenon, it’s best to use words from said or related culture. When I think of someone that likes to "撒嬌" I'd describe it as someone who likes to act "kawaii". Thanks to the internet and the huge new found popularity of anime, most of the younger generation in the states understands what kawaii is nowadays (In the Asian American community you can expect everyone to know what that means). So "She likes to be/act kawaii" gets you closer to 撒嬌 then being girly or feminine.
    A bonus word, or non-word for that matter cuz it's really just an emoticon, is "UwU" (pronounced YOU-WOO, or WOO-WOO). It emerged from the internet culture and it's mostly known in the Asian American community. You can say "stop doing that uwu thing" to tell someone to stop "撒嬌ing"

    • @TheLittleColumbus
      @TheLittleColumbus  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's interesting. I don't want to get myself into the hellhole that is gender politics, but I watch those "feminine dating coaches" sometimes (don't ask why) and they teach strategies that are very akin to the Asian "撒嬌“. They teach women to express childlike behavious in order to quell anger from their partner and also get what they want. Just thought I'd share. But of course I understand that femininity is being redefined by different groups in society.

    • @Shredberry
      @Shredberry 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TheLittleColumbus ahhhh yes it makes sense that a female dating coach would describe it as such and I totally get that opening the gender talk is opening a can of worms lol however, "to be feminine" is a very open ended phrase and I strongly doubt people from non-East Asian cultural background will think of being cutesy and pouty when you say someone is being feminine. Of course the act of "撒嬌“ is universal but the infantilized behavior that's associated with 撒嬌 is not commonly seen outside of East Asian culture (hence why the whole fetishization of East Asian women exists, but that's an entire different topic lol) At the end there is no hard right or wrong in this discussion but I certainly would not expect someone that's not familiar with the East Asian culture to get it if I told them a certain woman is very "feminine".
      PS. So.... why do you watch those female dating coach vids? LMAOOOOOO I kid ofc

    • @TheLittleColumbus
      @TheLittleColumbus  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Shredberry yes, if you are in the West and say that pouting and throwing childish tantrums is being feminine, you would be pigeonholed as a person with a very particular world view. This vid would not fly well with most Western audiences. But yeah gender politics and boy-girl social dynamics intrigue me to no end hahaha. I watch everything.

    跟台灣女生相比,香港女生不太會撒嬌(撒嬌在廣東話說「嗲」),因為港女性格比較直率、爽朗,有些人會覺得撒嬌太做作,如果有女生不小心撒了一點嬌,旁邊女生通常會說:「你有事嗎?」(廣東話是「你冇野吓?),可能有些男生受到台妹影響也喜歡撒嬌的女生,但大部分港女還是討厭很會撒嬌的女生,因為骨子裡不是這樣為什麼要裝呢?

    I think you did a good job translating 撒嬌 as Google Translate has it all wrong. Another word expression is quite hard to explain as well, ie “那個人很三八”,it supposed to be on the funny side not too serious in Taiwan, but my chinese friends from other countries see it as “being bitching” which I totally disagree. What do you think?

    • @Shredberry
      @Shredberry 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a good topic lol
      Being bitchy or bitching about something most definitely isn't 三八 lol I would say being gay is the closest but depending on context and who you're speaking to it can be offensive so I would not advise such translation. Also, since 三八 has different connotations so my best practice for this kind of words is always to translate it base on the context. Like 那個人很三八 could mean someone is annoying or literally someone who has the gay mannerism (like 娘娘腔).

    Could very possibly be my limited Chinese and misunderstanding what you explained in your video, but is "撒嬌" being feminine or girly though? 🤔 I've always wondered how to explain "撒嬌" to people if say it's a kid/pet is being "撒嬌." I always just explained it as actin cute lol or trying to be cute; (although that depends on the context, especially if we're saying not to mess with someone by trying to "be all cute.") Man language is so difficult to explain haha. Funny vid though!
    On another note, have you thought about discussing some politically correct/culturally offensive words? (As in if using "retard" is considered funny at all nowadays?) I've always felt it was something that'd help students in Taiwan the most before they go abroad.

      If you can find my comment I said the exact same thing. His translation of "feminine" in this context is based on the norm and understanding of being "feminine" in East Asian culture. I know for sure if I were to describe a woman is being feminine to a person who isn't familiar with the East Asian culture they would never think of anything close to "撒嬌". To me "kawaii" is a better translation in this context like "She likes to act all kawaii". Or even the newest scholarly internet vocab "UwU" is a better choice LOL "Quit uwu'ing!" LMAOOOOO

      哈哈 是 "縮圖照“, 是 TH-cam 的一個專有名詞。 還有, "We are finished" 是正確的文法呀! 是可以翻成 完蛋了,不過看了上下文就會知道他這裡不是完蛋了的意思啦。 還有原來中文叫生悶氣哈哈長知識了~
