Chukar Hunting with Chukar Chasers Nevada - A Project Upland Original Film

  • Chukar hunting has a reputation. The bird itself is often referred to as the “red legged devil.” The terrain, inclines, and habitat they call home is all part of the physical toll this bird takes on those committed to pursue it. Then there’s the mystery of “here today and gone tomorrow” or maybe even nowhere to be found after miles upon miles of boot leather logged. Some may think this is all reason to never hunt the chukar. Others relish in the “calorie negative” hunt.
    “The miles trekked. I think that’s the biggest thing that sets chukar hunters apart from other hunters.”

    Seeing other public land hunters pick up hulls makes me so happy. Truly respecting our lands and doing your part to keep them open for generations.

    Good for you Mr. Garcia. My father was not a hunter and didn't like guns in the house after the war. I bought a $38 single shot 12 gauge and thought, "If he busts it over my head, I'm only out $38." He did nothing of the sort. I actually ended up hunting with his brothers - all of which were consummate hunters. ...go figure?
    I train bird dogs now, professionally. I consider myself blessed . Both of my sons hunt. I travel from northern Ontario to a stones throw from the Mexico border to hunt over my setter and my pointer. I have a passion that is immeasurable. Watching my dogs whether in the dense north woods for grouse and woodcock or the open prairies for Huns and sharptail is absolute nirvana. I have had the luxury of having run a brace of pointers on a Scottish moor for red grouse as well as migrating quail in central Italy. I have "the disease". One day, I too hope to add Chukar to my list....Lord willing. At 66, that clock seems to be ticking faster than it did somehow!?!
    Mr. Garcia, may God gift you many more quality years with your family. Just remember that sometimes, our plans are not His plans. Keep the faith....and keep the vids coming boys!

    I just got back into chukar hunting after about a 20 year hiatus. I am falling in love with it all over again. We are hunting with a super young dog and we are just taking one trip at a time. I ordered some chukar chaser stickers I'll be putting them on my toy hauler.

    Well done guys, love the scenery out west. Chukar is the king of the west it seems. Nice to see hunting equipment that is actually used rather than the tags still on it.

    I have a nearly 8 year old GSP... which you would think is 2 still considering his energy. We moved here from Pennsylvania/Delaware a few years ago and haven't been hunting since. But I have been wanting to get him out before he's too old. His parents had lots of hunting awards and such, he's a natural and a pleasure. Please! Take me with you sometime, or if nothing else let me in on some tips where to go/how to find some birds. We live in Carson, I work in Reno. We'll drive hours to go on day hikes, backpacking, camping, fly fishing... we're ready to find some birdies!

    THE MUSIC! I like these videos, clearly a lot of effort goes into making them and I appreciate that Project Upland appears to try and evoke the emotion that many feel when enjoying the outdoors… but crap on a stick, the music is exhausting! It never let’s up! Sometimes a little break goes a long way and actually adds more to a scene than trying to keep viewers on some emotional rise.

    Wow. This hunting on wild Chukar is something indeed. The open range. Appears to be a workout of love. Being in southwest Ohio. We hunt preserve birds for the most part. They are good eating. a bit larger than quail. I salute these fellows that get to enjoy this land. Think I would be good for a couple miles in. and a couple miles out. lol. The GSP is the right choice for covering some ground.
    I love my Liver male Dieter. Ever encounter any snakes out there? I would be so worried about my dog running by one.

    My husband didn't know what a sage hen was until he moved to Reno from Oklahoma. It's interesting to see what we have to hunt here that isn't in other parts of the country. I know chukar are in OK, and some pheasant but not sage hen. And his deer season got fucked when he moved here. There, they can even shoot doe, and everyone that wants one, can get a deer tag. But they have those little deer, not like our GINORMOUS white tail.

      What a strange comment. I feel sorry for you to not experience what hunting with a GOOD dog is like. When I was a kid I also hunted without a dog, now I wont go without my dogs, its no fun, the dogs do everything. I also feel bad for all the birds you leave behind, what a waste. Until I got dogs I didnt realize how many birds I was wounding that were running away out of sight that the dogs track down and pickup. I ran into a couple kids on the chukar slops without dogs one time and they were banging away below me. They were between me and my truck. I came through with my dogs and picked up the birds they were leaving behind. I suggested they get a dog as well.

    • @Asianredneckwoman
      @Asianredneckwoman 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's not about numbers killed but the dog work. I'd rather hunt all day with a good dog and get one or none than shoot limits just hiking around flushing them by myself. There's something magical about hunting over a well trained dog doing what they love. The bond you develop with each other is something special.
